PUSHING THE LIMITS: CARSON MACEDO SETS QUICK TIME AT EAGLE RACEWAY BEFORE LEADING 19 LAPS TO OPEN KUBOTA HIGH LIMIT RACING’S BIKINIZONE EAGLE NATIONALS CROSSING THE FINISH LINE WITH IN FOURTH PLACE
EAGLE, NEBRASKA (June 11, 2024) – On Tuesday night, Carson Macedo and the Jason Johnson Racing (JJR) #41 team used their first of four “free pass” opportunities this season to race outside the World of Outlaws’ sanctioned race schedule at Eagle Raceway – “America’s Home Track” – in Kubota High Limit Racing’s BikiniZone Eagle Nationals. Eagle Raceway is a 1/3-mile dirt track located near Lincoln, Nebraska that always produces great racing. It never disappoints. The JJR #41 team trucked from their Rocky Mount, Missouri home base and upon arrival opened the back gate of their hauler to roll out the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 in preparation for the night of racing action. There were 43 extremely qualified entrants for the night of action. When perusing the list of drivers it became obvious there was an endless amount of talent on hand all with their eyes on the big prize – the event trophy and of course the winner’s check worth $55,555 with Phil Durst from Durst Inc. upping the ante. It was time to go High Limit Racing in the Cornhusker State.
The one lap track record here at Eagle Raceway was established back on July 4, 2009, by Sammy Swindell at 11.076 seconds. Everyone throughout the pit area would be trying to top not only each other, but also a legend in the sport. Based on the size of the field, there would be two Qualifying Groups – A and B. The first driver out on the track to kick things off in Capitol Custom Trailers Qualifying was Shark Racing’s Jacob Allen. Carson Macedo, driving the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Kistler Racing Engines/Xtreme Body and Paint #41 Maxim, would be the fifth driver in Qualifying Group A to push off for his two timed laps. Buckled into his Crow Enterprizes safety belts, he was ready to rip. Carson lowered his foot on the loud pedal and was making tracks and not looking back. When he raced by the starter in the flagstand the clock was rolling and so was the driver of the forty-one. When Carson completed lap one, he recorded a lap time of 11.642 seconds. With his foot still planted in the accelerator he was looking to carve off a little bit of time the next time around. When he came off turn four the checkered flag was waving. He ended lap two much better at 11.322 seconds. The faster of his two attempts, lap two, catapulted him to the top of the speed charts where he would remain for Qualifying Group A. Kyle Larson set quick time in Qualifying Group B with a quick lap of 11.560 seconds. Carson’s quickest lap earned him the Capitol Trailers & Coaches Quick Time Award at Eagle Raceway.
The lineups were published for the four 8-lap heat races where the top five would transfer into the feature. The race winner and the quickest driver from time trials in each heat race, as long as they finished in the top five, would move on to the Dash when the checkers flew. Carson would get started from the fourth starting spot in TJ Forged Heat #1. This heat race showcased the talent on hand at Eagle Raceway as it was loaded with sprint car talent and success. Brent Marks and Jacob Allen paced from the front row with Carson sharing row two with Corey Day. The formidable duo of Brad Sweet and Parker Price-Miller rolled behind in row three with Ayrton Gennetten and Cole Macedo in row four. Brian Brown and Jack Dover made up row five with Tyler Drueke tagging the rear of the field in row six.
When they came off turn four and saw the green flag waving, the front row starters stepped on the ‘go fast’ fast pedal. Brent Marks hustled into the lead with Jacob Allen chomping right behind him. Corey Day held down the show position as Brad Sweet used the low lane to make his way into fourth. Carson used his Kistler Engines power to lock down the fifth and final transfer spot, but Parker Price-Miller wasn’t about to make it easy.
With a few laps to go, Price-Miller made the pass and Carson was on the outside looking in . . . temporarily. He used the high line to carry his momentum and speed as he made his way back by Parker Price-Miller’s #9P. Brent Marks raced to the heat race win by 1.747 seconds ahead of Corey Day with Brad Sweet coming home third. Jacob Allen finished fourth. And, Carson Macedo drove the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 home fifth. That was good enough to lock Carson into the Dash along with Brent Marks from the first heat race.
Each of the eight drivers would spin the Honest Abe’s Roofing Redraw Spin Wheel to determine where they would get started for the 7-lap FK Rod Ends Dash. After revealing that Luigi was is favorite Mario Cart character, the native of Lemoore, California spun the wheel and it landed on the number two. That ended up being the lowest number putting him on the pole position for the Dash. He would start alongside Rico Abreu (spun an 8) on the front row. Row two was made up of Tanner Thorson (spun a 10) and Chase Randall (spun an 11). Kyle Larson (spun a 12) and James McFadden (spun a 12) sat in row three with Spencer Bayston (spun a 20) and Brent Marks (spun a 31) in row four.
When they went racing under green flag conditions, Carson drove the Tarlton and Son/Schoenfeld Headers/CS Productions #41 into the top spot with Thorson ripping under Abreu into the runner-up position as Kyle Larson ran in fourth place. Carson would not be denied as he led handedly from start-to-finish to earn the win ahead of Thorson, Abreu and Larson with Bayston coming home fifth followed by McFadden, Marks and Randall who completed the finishing order.
Carson Macedo had the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Sander Engineering/KSE Racing Products #41 Maxim perched on the pole for the start of the 40-lap, Kubota High Limit Racing Series BikiniZone Eagle Nationals feature. With the addition of two provisional starters, a total of 26 cars rolled out on the track surface escorted by their crew members on ATVs. There was a $55,555 paycheck awaiting the winner. It was time to go racing at Eagle Raceway!
Carson led the field down the backstretch where “1 BADASS RACETRACK” was painted in red on the wall. A perfect and aligned description of Eagle Raceway. Theses stars were about to put on a high speed sprint car show for the capacity crowd of greater than 8,000 fans on hand. Carson lowered his white K1 Race Gear racing shoe when they arrived in turn four a quickly raced into the lead ahead of Tanner Thorson. He had a fast racecar and was using the clean air to his advantage as he began to build his lead.
By lap 7, Carson had caught the back of the field and was set to begin navigating lap traffic when the yellow flag was thrown for Brent Marks who came to rest in the infield with front end damage after attempting a slide job on Spencer Bayston in turns three and four and getting sideways as the two made contact. The restart order would be Macedo, Thorson, Abreu, Larson and Randall when they came back up to speed.
The green flag was back out again with Carson Macedo reclaiming the lead with 33 laps to go. Rico Abreu used the restart to move by Tanner Thorson into the runner-up position as he began to chase after the driver of the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41. Kyle Larson followed Abreu’s lead and made his way by Thorson too, moving the Finley Farms #57 into the third spot.
On lap 18, Carson was back in traffic putting the slower cars a lap down when the second yellow flag of the night came out for fourth place running Corey Day who made contact with the outside retaining wall off turn four exploding his right rear Hoosier Racing Tire. Under yellow flag conditions, second running Rico Abreu also headed to the work area for repairs after hitting some debris on the track and damaging his front wing.
The restart running order would be Carson Macedo with Kyle Larson now right beside him. Tanner Thorson was in third followed by Brad Sweet and Chase Randall. Things were about to get even more exciting than they previously were when the drivers went back to green flag racing. The flagman unfurled the green flag with 22 laps to go. Carson powered up the forty-one and entered turn one up against the cushion. Kyle Larson drove in low and drifted up across the track in turn two. Carson turned down and raced back by Larson off the turn and into the lead. Larson continue his pursuit of the lead and stole the lead back in the next set of turns on lap 19 as Brad Sweet moved the NAPA Auto Parts #49 into third.
The next time around, Carson moved the forty-one back by Larson to lead the lap 20, but Larson quickly returned the favor reclaiming the top spot as the two Californians swapped clean slide jobs at speed. What a display of talent. Brad Sweet was a strategic opportunist and used the battle for the lead to also move by Macedo to claim the second spot. In the heat of the battle Carson slid up the track trying to regain the spot and tripped over the curb in turn two and got shuffled back as far as sixth by lap 23.
Out front, Larson and Sweet were battling for the lead as Carson stayed up on the wheel as he began to claw his way back and began to race forward. He moved up a spot on lap 25 to move back into the top five. Ten laps later he made his way by Kerry Madsen to take over the fourth position behind Larson, Sweet, and McFadden. The top four all had about a half of a second between them, so the race was still captivating.
Kyle Larson held Sweet at bay to earn his third straight win at Eagle Raceway with Brad Sweet and James McFadden completing the podium. Carson Macedo recovered and brought the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 home with a close fourth place finish, the JJR team’s 18th straight Top 5 finish (a 75% success rate), with Kerry Madsen completing the top five. Carson also earned the Jake’s Golf Carts Fastest Lap Award in the feature with a lap of 12.384 seconds on the opening lap. Another good run for Macedo and the forty-one!
