PLAYING IN THE RED CLAY IN PA: AFTER GETTING OFF TO A SLOW START, CARSON MACEDO AND THE JJR #41 TEAM BATTLE BACK TO A 14TH PLACE FINISH IN THE 3RD ANNUAL BRICKER’S BASH AT BAPS MOTOR SPEEDWAY
YORK HAVEN, PENNSYLVANIA (July 23, 2025) – After capturing the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cip XXXIV win on Tuesday night over at Lernerville Speedway in Kubota High Limit Racing Series action, his first series win, Carson Macedo and the JJR #41 were back at the track Wednesday night for World of Outlaws competition. They parked their Border International rig in the pita area at BAPS Motor Speedway in Pennsylvania to continue their summer visit to The Keystone State. This racetrack opened back on May 23, 1954, with Curvin “Bud” Bricker as the promoter. It was another beautiful day in Central PA with the mercury in the thermometer only pushing up to 85 degrees with the sun shining overhead, blue skies, and a slight breeze flowing to offset some of the heat. Every time the traveling tour of WoO racers enters this state, they arrive knowing full well that the stakes are slightly higher than normal as they prepare to compete against the always formidable Pennsylvania Posse (PA Posse) contingent of drivers. The fans in this area are astute when it comes to sprint car racing and their support is unwavering for their drivers who race here week-in and week-out . . . even if during weekly competition they root against them. There were 43 race teams entered to race on the red clay here in Pennsylvania for the 3rd Annual Bricker’s Bash at BAPS Motor Speedway.

After getting a few laps around BAPS Motor Speedway in WEDG High Performance Karts Hot Laps, Carson provided feedback to his JJR crew in preparation for Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying. The driver from The Golden State of California would be the 13th speedster out on the track in Flight 1 to turn his two time trials laps around the 4/10-mile racetrack. After Lucas Wolfe in the Hollinger Group #5W completed his timed laps, Carson rolled the Boltz Family/Ben Cook Race Car Products/ISC Racers Tape #41 Maxim onto the backstretch and immediately put his Kistler Engines power to work. The goal for these drivers, as simple as it may seem for everyone watching, was to get around BAPS as quickly as possible and end up at or near the top of the speed charts when qualifying ended. If only it was that easy as there is a lot that goes into making speed. Carson accelerated as he passed the flagstand to start his timed session. It took 15.361 seconds to complete his first lap as he was already busy working his way around BAPS again on lap two. This was his last chance to find some more speed and when he crossed the finish line his time was slightly improved compared to lap one at 15.151 seconds. The better of his two timed laps was 13th quick overall in individual qualifying for Flight 1 to start the night. The quickest driver out of Flight 1, also earning the Simpson Quick Time Award, was Pennsylvania legend Lance Dewease in the Barry Shearer #12 who showed off his speed by turning a lap in 14.719 seconds. David Gravel sat at the top of the speed charts in Flight 2 time trials running around BAPS in 14.749 seconds.
With the show moving along on this Wednesday evening, the lineups for each of four 8-lap Heat races quickly posted using each driver’s best lap in time trials. Lance Dewease #12 shared the front row in NOS Energy Drink Heat Race #1 with Hunter Schuerenberg #55 with Ryan Smith #69k and Cole Macedo #2c in row two. Cory Eliason #45 and Logan Rumsey #41R were together in row three. Carson earned the seventh starting position where he shared row four with Zach Hampton #6. Ryan Newton #66 and Gerard McIntyre JR. #33 were rolling in row five with Tyler Rutherford #19R along in row six.
Carson had some work to do if he wanted to gain one of the five transfer positions up for grabs. This place can be challenging to pass cars sometimes, so getting off to a good start when the green flag comes out is paramount. When the front row starters reached the chalk striped, Lance Dewease was ready to get this qualifying race started and off turn four he blasted into the lead with Ryan Smith and Hunter Schuerenberg racing for the second spot.
Carson was up on his JOES Racing Products Matador Steering Wheel early as he raced into the fifth position by the end of the first lap. He was driving the Scott Boyd Family/Mark Burch Motorsports/Winters Performance Products #41 hard looking to see if he could gain any more spots as the field began to spread out. The remaining seven laps flew by though with Lance Dewease taking the victory ahead of Ryan Smith with Schuerenberg and Cory Eliason just behind. Carson maintained the fifth position to gain the final transfer spot out of the first Heat race.

With the summer sun sinking over the western horizon, the eight-minute horn sounded in the pit area alerting the crews to wrap up their work in preparation for the 30-lap 3rd Annual Bricker’s Bash feature at BAPS Motor Speedway. Kolten Gouse and Scott Gobrecht have made so many great improvements to this facility and work their behinds off to make everyone’s experience a good one – racers and fans alike.
The twenty-four drivers that earned starting spots in the feature, along with three provisional starters, began climbing into their cars as the time was upon us to go racing in Central Pennsylvania. Toyota Dash winner David Gravel #2 started from the pole position with PA Posse member Anthony Macri #39M to his outside. They were followed by Bill Balog #17B and Pennsylvania-born Brent Marks #19 in the second row. Two more PA Posse drivers, Freddie Rahmer #51, and Ryan Smith #69K were together in row three with Hunter Schuerenberg #55 and a PA racing legend Lance Dewease #12 side-by-side in row four to start the A-Main.
Carson had a lot of work to do as he would get the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Wilwood/Team Jack Foundation #41 Maxim speed mobile started from way back on the inside of row nine beside Donny Schatz #15. It was now “no fooling around time” time as the yellow lights dimmed soon to be replaced by the illuminated green ones.
Off turn four the polesitter pushed the hammer down and the race was on at BAPS Motor Speedway – World of Outlaws style! David Gravel led Anthony Macri at the drop of the green flag to lead the first lap with Bill Balog running in the show position trying his best to hold off Brent Marks. Carson Macedo moved up to 16th place after one circuit, but he had a lot more work to do.
On lap 2, the yellow flag came out for Sheldon Haudenschild #17 who spun to a stop before rejoining the field at the back of the pack. David Gravel would accelerate back up to speed with Macri staying close to the leader with Balog still running in third. Carson continued to work hard, but on lap 6 the forty-one slowed to bring out the second caution flag of the night before he headed to the Federated Auto Parts Work Zone. Philip, Robby, and Adam checked the front end and cleared a few big clods of mud away from the axle before sending their driver back out.
He now was at the very back of the pack looking to climb up the scoreboard when the green flag waved. David Gravel was the leader but when they racing went live again Anthony Macri now moved into the top spot with Gravel and Balog in his rearview mirror. Brent Marks was running fourth with Ryan Smith rounding out the top five. Carson’s slow march forward had begun, but he had a lot of cars to race with running in front of him creating dirty air.
On lap 8, Ashton Torgerson #1a was sitting sideways in turn two to bring out the third caution flag of the night. Before the yellow lights turned on David Gravel was all over the race leader. The top five for the restart were still Macri, Gravel, Balog, Marks, and Smith with 22 laps remaining.
When they got going again the only thing that changed in the top five was the fifth position as Michael “Buddy” Kofoid #83 passed Ryan Smith for the position. Anthony Macri was still showing the way with Gravel in hot pursuit. Carson was still on the move racing from the 22nd spot in the 27 car field.
On lap 10, Ryan Smith spun the Krietz Racing #69k around in turn two as the yellow flag flew for the fourth time. With one-third of the race recorded and a majority of the race remaining, Anthony Macri was back on the gas and circle BAPS Motor Speedway. David Gravel was still in second place with Bill Balog continuing to fend off the hard-charging Brent Marks.
On lap 11, the race would stop again, but this time it was a red flag for Danny Dietrich #48 who flipped wildly exiting turn four and down the frontstretch. He was ok, but his night of racing was over. Anthony Macri again was hammer down when the green lights came back on. Bill Balog momentarily snuck by Gravel for second, but the Watertown, Connecticut driver of the Big Game Motorsports #2 drove right back by the next time around.
At the halfway point of the race, Carson had made his way up to 17th place tracking just behind Cameron Smith #75 and Logan Schuchart #1s. He continued to race hard moving into the fifteenth on lap 19. Over the remainder of the race, he was able to gain another position to recover and bring the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 home with a 14th place finish. Certainly not the night Carson and the JJR team were looking to deliver, but they will take it and move onto Williams Grove Speedway Friday night for the opening night of the C&D Rigging Summer Nationals.
Anthony Macri earned the win with David Gravel and Bill Balog completing the podium. Buddy Kofoid was scored fourth with Brent Marks rounding out the top five. Sixth was Freddie Rahmer followed by Hunter Schuerenberg, Garet Williamson, and Troy Wagaman Jr. with Sheldon Haudenschild completing the top ten.
