NO LADY LUCK IN LAS VEGAS ON NIGHT ONE: AFTER A HARD NIGHT OF WORK, GRAVEL BRINGS HOME THE HIGH PERFORMANCE LUBRICANTS #41 MAXIM TO AN EIGHTEENTH PLACE FINISH UNDER THE LIGHTS OF SIN CITY
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (February 27, 2019) – Racing at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with the sparkling lights of Sin City as the backdrop, David Gravel and the JJR #41 team for ready to get rolling in the desert. They backed the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/Weikert’s Livestock #41 Maxim out of the hauler eager to get at it on the track. There were 38 teams lining the pit area on the first of two nights of racing action in the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown in Las Vegas.
After hot laps were completed, the field was split into two groups with the forty-one set to go out fourth in Flight B. When Brent Marks finished his two laps, the Watertown, Connecticut wheelman jump on the loud pedal as his Kistler Engines power roared. Looking to lay down the best lap possible the talented driver hit his marks and stopped the clock at 14.649 seconds. He kept the High Performance Lubricants/J.R.C. Transportation #41 Maxim Racing entry moving and turned in a consistent, but slightly slower, second lap at 14.669 seconds. The quicker of his two laps was 10th quick overall in Flight B.
With time trials completed, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car officials set the heat race lineup. The Mesilla Valley Transportation/Durst, Inc. #41 would be starting fifth in the fourth and final heat race. In addition to Gravel, the heat race lineup was filled with stars and talent with the likes of Tim Shaffer and Rico Abreu in row one followed by Kasey Kahne and Paul McMahan in row two. David shared row three with Kyle Larson, as Kraig Kinser, Shawn Dancer and Greg Wilson rounded out the starting lineup. With a full set of grandstands and many more watching on DIRTVision, it was time to go racing at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. When the green flag waved over the field it was Tim Shaffer seizing the lead as Gravel drove his Weld Racing wheels forward splitting Kasey Kahne and Paul McMahan on the opening lap to move into the show position. He maintained his speed and owned the third position for the balance of the race as he crossed the line behind Shaffer and second place finishing Rico Abreu.
His third place finish positioned David on the outside of row six for the 30-lap feature event on night one of the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with Donny Schatz to his inside. Tim Shaffer earned the pole position and brought the field to the green flag. He would lead lap one as Gravel went to work inside the cockpit of his Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/Team Jack Foundation #41 Maxim. HE made his way into the top ten on lap 7 when he drove into the eighth spot. With Shaffer still showing the way, the forty-one got shuffled back to thirteenth in the middle stages of the races but kept working hard. He re-entered the top ten on lap 21 when he moved into ninth place, He moved forward on the next lap and was running in the eighth position when he spun and was collected by Carson Macedo. The lap 26 incident ended his night, but the driver and team will refocus and roll the dice again when they get back at it on Thursday night for the second night of action in the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown.
