LOUISIANAN ADDS A LITTLE CAJUN SPICE TO THE TOP TEN IN THE GETTYSBURG CLASH AT LINCOLN SPEEDWAY AS HE COMES HOME WITH A SIXTH-PLACE FINISH IN THE PIGEON HILLS OF PENNSYLVANIA

ABBOTTSTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA (May 17, 2017) – In summerlike conditions, with temperatures soaring into the 90’s, Jason and the JJR Marshall Racing team swept into Pennsylvania for the first round against the PA Posse at Lincoln Speedway in the Gettysburg Clash. This is kind of like a second home for the team as Bobbi Johnson use to work in the concession stands at Lincoln and grew up on a farm not too far away from the track. There were 43 cars ready to roll from the backstretch pit area as fans flowed into the grandstands on the frontstretch in the Pigeon Hills. It is always exciting to visit this area as the competition is fierce and the fans are knowledgeable and spirited.

With the number of cars registered, the field was split into two flights for time trial qualifying. Jason went out fifth in Flight A aboard the Jonestown KOA/Winters Performance Products #41. As the nose of his car crested the banking to come onto the track in turn three, the 2016 Knoxville Nationals champion powered up to speed and took the green. He circled the track the first lap in 13.676 seconds which was a good one but the determined driver was looking for more. He stayed at speed and ran a cleaner and faster lap the next time around coming in at 13.593 seconds. The track’s surface kept coming in as more cars took to the track. When the twenty second car went out to end Flight A, Jason’s faster of his two times stood up to be 10th quick overall.

The heat race lineups were posted and Jason would start on the inside of row two in a doozy of a heat race. As chance would have it, and qualifying determined, 8 of the 11 starters in this second heat race were full-time World of Outlaw Craftsman Sprint Car Series designated drivers with three PA Posse members rounding out the starting grid. Daryn Pittman and Joey Saldana started on the front row with Shane Stewart and Trey Starks following in row two. Jason shared row three with 8-time WoO champion Donny Schatz as Logan Schuchart, Robbie Kendall, Glenndon Forsythe, Paul McMahan and Clyde Knipp finished off the field. When the yellow lights dimmed and the flagman unfurled the green cloth the field roared down the front straightaway. Jason got a good start in the Priority Aviation Services, LLC/FK Shocks Maxim and was methodically hitting his lines and making the bottom work in one and two and sailing through the middle of three and four. He could move around the track as needed and raced into the show position as he passed Stewart for the spot. Pittman took the win over Saldana as Jason charged to a third-place finish. Donny Schatz came home fourth with Logan Schuchart making a last lap, last turn pass on the low side of Stewart to secure the fifth and final transfer position.

For the 35-lap feature, Jason would roll off from the 11th starting position at the tight and racy 3/8th mile oval. The racing is always exciting at Lincoln, especially when you put 26 fast 410 sprint cars out there together to race against each other in a World of Outlaws event. When the green flag waved, there was great action everywhere on the racing surface from the front of the field to the back of the field. David Gravel was leading Daryn Pittman as Jason got a terrific start in his Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/LogoDaddy #41. He was moving as he was making tracks on the low side early before moving to the top of the track as he followed Sheldon Haudenschild. Things got a bit dicey when Haudenschild spun and did a 360 between one and two, but Jason took evasive action to avoid contact and move into the sixth position in the running order. He kept working hard from his Fibreworks Composites custom fitted seat as the final laps began to count down. Another late race spin, this time by Jason Sides which Jason was also able to narrowly miss, allowed him to briefly move into the fifth running position. He was in a race with local legend Brian Montieth for many laps as the two talented drivers raced cleanly around Lincoln. Gravel would go on to collect his sixth win of the season over Daryn Pittman and Danny Dietrich with Schatz and Montieth rounding out the top five.

Jason’s strong sixth place finish was his 10th single digit finish in his last 11 races and his 20th top ten of the 2017 season, a 64.52% top ten success rate. Another great run for the forty-one as the Cajun Sensation drives to a solid finish at Lincoln Speedway.
