KEYSTONE STATE SPARRING: THE DRIVER FROM THE GOLDEN STATE DELIVERS AN 11TH PLACE FINISH DRIVING AGAINST THE PENNSYLVANIA POSSE IN THE 63RD ANNUAL J&S CLASSICS NATIONAL OPEN AT WILLIAMS GROVE

MECHANICSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA (October 4, 2025) – With the mild temperatures continuing in the area making for idyllic racing conditions, the heat was about to rachet up quite a bit in Central Pennsylvania as the action on the track was about to start again during the final night of the 63rd Annual J&S Classics National Open at Williams Grove Speedway. The traveling tour of World of Outlaws speed stars made the Fall trip to the East Coast following their two races in Ohio last weekend and there were looking to take home a lion’s share of the purse during championship night at the famous, paper-clipped shaped oval with a bridge over the back straightaway. Friday night saw Chase Dietz #23D drive to his first World of Outlaws win during the preliminary night of action passing Carson on lap 22. Carson crossing the finish line in the fourth position after starting on the pole and leading the first 21 laps of the race finishing behind Pennsylvania’s version of Triple D – Dietz, Dewease, and Dietrich. The JJR #41 crew – Philip Dietz, Robby McQuinn, and Adam Zimmerman – had the car rolled out of the trailer and were hard at work getting it ready for the night of speed, entertainment, and money making. There were 56 cars packing the pit area back and ready to produce some high speed entertainment.

After WEDG High Performance Karts Hot Laps concluded, it was time for Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying. With greater than 38 cars signed in the pit area the field of cars was separate into two Flights separated by the number they drew in the random pill draw to start the night at the World of Outlaws Command Center. When looking over the order for each session, Carson would be the eleventh driver out in Flight A after drawing the “14” pill in the Eloy Gutierrez Pill Draw for his two laps against the fast moving clock. Carson climbed into the cockpit of his Maxim Racing 900 horsepower machine before securing his Crow Enterprizes safety belts for the ride. He was prepared to make speed in the High Performance Lubricants/Boltz Family/Wilwood #41 at Williams Grove as he waited in the infield pit area staging lane. When it was his turn to go, Carson would be out on the track in two-car qualifying with the Roth Motorsports #83 of Buddy Kofoid. He rolled into turn one and turned left before pressing down on the gas pedal to get up to speed. When he exited off turn four the green flag was waving high in the air as the numbers on the stopwatch started to whiz by simultaneously. He maneuvered around the technical half-mile oval to the best of his abilities and completed the first of two attempts in 17.023 seconds. Without knowing his first lap time, Carson kept digging looking for more speed and traction. He raced off turn two and down the long back straightaway looking to make quick work of the last set of turns. Carson hustled out of turn four and cruised under the waving checkered flag to end lap two in 16.874 seconds. Looking up at the scoreboard after crossing the scales in the back pit area, he saw that the last of his two qualifying laps was the best one positioning him fourth quick overall in Flight A. The fastest driver in that session (Flight A) and overall to earn the Simpson Quick Time Award honors was David Gravel in the Big Game Motorsports #2. He circled “The Grove” in 16.687 seconds. Bill Balog in the Honest Abe Roofing/Anderson’s Pure Maple Syrup #17B was the quickest driver out of the other session (Flight B) with a lap of 16.823 seconds.

Next up were the four 8-lap Heat races where only the top five drivers at the finish line would secure transfer spots into the A-Main. The lineups for each qualifying race were set based on time trial results with Carson getting his race started from the outside front row piloting the Scott Boyd Family/Winters Performance Products/KSE Racing Products #41 in Real American Beer Heat #2. Carson Macedo would roll the forty-one into the second starting spot beside Buddy Kofoid in the Mobil 1/Toyota Racing Development (TRD) #83 as they paced in front of 2025 Williams Grove Track Champion Troy Wagaman Jr. #27 and Justin Whittall #67. Moving in row three was Freddie Rahmer #51 and Giovanni Scelzi #7BC with Kodu Hartlaub #95 and Justin Peck right behind in row four. Cole Macedo #2c and Kalen Johnson #6k were together in row five with Ryan Newton #66 tagging the rear after transferring out of the non-qualifiers race.

The starting field was nose-to-tail in the two wide formation entering turn three. When they reached turn four and crossed the chalk stripe, the drivers all fanned out trying to find clean air and clear passing lanes as they built up their momentum down the frontstretch in front of the grandstands.

Front row starters Buddy Kofoid and Carson Macedo drag raced down the front straightaway looking to take command of the top spot when they entered turn one. Carson moved up a lane with and rolled around the outside of Kofoid seizing the lead when they exited turn two with Kofoid, Whittall, and Scelzi in hot pursuit throughout the opening lap.

From there Carson was all business as he started to stretch his legs and extend his race lead over the Roth Motorsports #83 after each completed lap. He led the entire race to capture the qualifying race victory by 2.804 seconds over Buddy Kofoid with Justin Whittall, Giovanni Scelzi, and Justin Peck locking down the final three transfer positions out of Heat #2.

The eight drivers that earned spots in the 6-lap Toyota Dash would be racing for their starting positions in the A-Main. Sheldon Haudenschild #17 would start on the pole with Bill Balog #17B sharing row one with him. Buddy Kofoid #83 and Pennsylvania favorite Danny Dietrich #48 paced from row two with Carson Macedo in the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 and Daryn Pittman #69k in row three. Brent Marks #19 and David Gravel #2 were in the final row ready to roll. When the green flag waved it was Bill Balog darting into the clean air out front followed by Haudenschild, Dietrich, and Kofoid with Carson getting shuffled back to the seventh where he was racing with David Gravel. Bill Balog never looked back to win the Dash by 2.307 seconds over Sheldon Haudenschild with Danny Dietrich, Buddy Kofoid, and Daryn Pittman grabbing top five finishing positions. Brent Marks raced home sixth followed by Gravel and Macedo.

With all the qualifying action now completed, the twenty four drivers who earned their starting positions in one of the first twelve rows were preparing for battle. They were joined by three drivers who chose to use provisional starting spots to join the field of competitors brining the starting field total to 27. The pre-race fireworks show was over, and it was now time for the best in the business to build their brand World of Outlaws style at Williams Grove Speedway in the $75,000-to-win, 40-lap 63rd Annual J&S Classics National Open championship feature finale.

The starting lineup for the main event at Williams Grove featured 10 World of Outlaws (WoO) drivers (37%), 13 Pennsylvania Posse (PA Posse) racers (48.2%), 3 High Limit Series competitors (11.1%), and 1 independent racer (3.7%) – Ryan Timms the starting grid. A pair of 17s would pace the field – Bill Balog #17B and Sheldon Haudenschild #17 – from the front row after running first and second in the Toyota Dash, respectively. Danny Dietrich #48 and Buddy Kofoid #83 were rolling right behind them in row two with Daryn Pittman #69k and Brent Marks #19 together in row three.

Carson paced from his eighth starting spot contemplating his early speed strategy at Williams Grove. Pumped and ready to go racing, Carson was laser focused back on the outside of row four aboard the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Border International/Team Jack Foundation #41 with David Gravel #2 to his inside.

After the traditional four-wide salute to show their respect to the fans, the drivers flipped down the shields on their helmets ready to get to work on this cool and crisp autumn evening in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. The impressive field of speed athletes were rolling slowly in formation until the front row starters exited turn four. It was all out “go-time” at Williams Grove’s half-mile oval as the race was on. Bill Balog jumped on the gas and was out front in control with the lead when lap one was done with Sheldon Haudenschild #17 and Buddy Kofoid #83 looing to stay in his tracks.

Carson maintained his starting position at the end of the first lap with David Gravel and Brent Marks just ahead of him in the running order. He would work his way by Marks’ M&M Painting #19 the next time by to move up a spot as Balog began to dominate out front as Kofoid and Haudenschild dueled for the runner-up position. Danny Dietrich was licking his lips watching the two drivers battle as he was closing in on both.

The first caution of the night occurred on lap 14 when Conner Morrell’s Tub O’ Towels #28M was off the paced and came to a stop in turn one. Race officials used this natural race slow down to throw an open red to allow the teams to top of their fuel tanks and make minor adjustments for a run to the finish.

Bill Balog would lead Buddy Kofoid, Sheldon Haudenschild, Danny Dietrich, and Daryn Pittman #69k back up to speed with Carson restarting from the seventh spot. When they got back up to speed Carson was stuck on the bottom enabling Friday night’s winner, Chase Dietz, and Brent Marks by putting Carson back into ninth place.

The next time by the yellow came out again as David Gravel was off the pace momentarily but blended back in line. Bill Balog would again throttle down and blast off into the lead. Sheldon Haudenschild moved by Buddy Kofoid for the second spot with Danny Dietrich still hustling from fourth. Carson moved the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 by Marks to reclaim the seventh position with 21 laps to go. The two talented racers would swap the position in the laps ahead.

Danny Dietrich made a big move to get by both Kofoid and Haudenschild and was now in the runner-up position behind race leader Balog. Daryn Pittman also was moving forward in the famous Kreitz #69 as he took over fourth relegating Kofoid back to fifth.

Carson was battling back in the last lap of the top ten. He was struggling to find the needed grip in the racing surface to make speed. Logan Schuchart made the pass pushing Carson’s #41 back to tenth.

Up front, with five laps to go, Sheldon Haudenschild made the race winning move to get by Bill Balog for the top spot. The tenacious young racer from Wooster, Ohio still needed to work because Balog was right there looking to regain the higher paying position. Sheldon held on an took the $75k win by just 0.165 seconds over Bill Balog with Danny Dietrich rounding out the podium. Daryn Pittman crossed the finish line fourth with Buddy Kofoid completing the top five.

Carson tried everything and anything but came home with an 11th place finish as Ryan Timms #10 moved by with 2 laps to go. Carson and the Jason Johnson Racing (JJR) #41 team will head to New Egypt Speedway in New Jersey next Friday night to race in the New Egypt Showdown. Make plans to come out to see some of the best in the business invade the Garden State. If you cannot get there to smell the methanol, tune into DIRTVision to catch all the action.
