THE CAJUN SENSATION ROUNDS OUT TOP TEN IN THE 3RD ANNUAL CAPITANI CLASSIC WITH A 10TH PLACE FINISH AT KNOXVILLE RACEWAY IN THE MESILLA VALLEY TRANSPORTATION (MVT) MAXIM

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (August 3, 2014) – With blue skies and white puffy clouds overhead, the teams pulled their haulers into the pits to ready themselves for the 3rd Annual Capitani Classic, also commonly referred to as the Cappy Classic. In total, there were 71 powerful 410 sprints cars packed into the pit area for this race to honor the longtime Knoxville Raceway promoter Ralph “Cappy” Capitani.

With three cars in each qualifying group, Jason pulled the one pill so he went out in the first group for his two time trial qualifying laps in the Jonestown KOA/CURB Records #41 Maxim. He made his way around the famous black clay oval in 16.482 seconds on the first lap and followed that up with a slightly slower lap of 16.546 seconds. His fastest lap was 30th quick overall, which put him and the Stenhouse Jr. Racing entry into the heat race inversion.

When each of the cars were assigned to their respective heat races based on their individual quickest time trial lap, Jason would find himself on the front row of heat six in the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/Pro Powder Coating Maxim beside the former two-time World of Outlaw champion Jason Meyers. When the field bunched up to take the green flag from Doug Clark, Jason pushed the loud pedal down with his right foot and took off to seize the lead as he dove to the bottom entering turn one. He worked the bottom and held the lead position as he showed the way around the Marion County Fairground’s half mile oval the entire distance to get the heat race win and advance to the prestigious 25-lap 3rd Annual Capitani Classic feature event.

Gridding the feature field from the 14th starting spot in the beautifully prepared #41, he had some work to do ahead of him. Not deterred, the Cajun racer who now calls Rocky Mount, Missouri home buckled into his ButlerBuilt Professional Seat System and pulled on his Oakley racing gloves. This nocturnal speed warrior was ready to go. The Madsen brothers, Ian and Kerry, were on the front row and brought the field screaming down the front stretch in front of the massive grandstands as Clark waved the green flag over the field. Jason grabbed a spot on the start and started moving forward. The racing around the track was wild and wholly as the first 20 laps went caution free before Kevin Swindell’s car rolled to a stop in front of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame. Jason was up to the 11th position and hungry for more with five laps to go. When the green lights re-illuminated, Jason got his elbows up and powered his way into the top ten. When the double checkered flags flew over race winner Ian Madsen, Jason cruised across the stripe with a solid tenth place finish. Another quality run for the forty one!
