HONORING SCRUFFY: CARSON MACEDO AND HIS WORLD OF OUTLAWS COMRADES INVADE LINCOLN SPEEDWAY FOR THE KEYSTONE SHOWDOWN AS THEY REMEMBER BOBBY ALLEN AND ALL OF HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SPORT

ABBOTTSTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA (October 11, 2025) – When the dust settled in New Jersey on Friday night after Carson led flag-to-flag in the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 Maxim to capture the team’s 11th World of Outlaws (WoO) victory of the season in the New Egypt Showdown, the Jason Johnson Racing (JJR) team loaded up and headed West on the Pennsylvania Turnpike enroute back to Pennsylvania for their final showing of the season against the always tough PA Posse. Their trek took them to the Pigeon Hills in South Central Pennsylvania for some Saturday night fun at Lincoln Speedway. This racy, 3/8-mile track was built for excitement and delivers every time the traveling series of stars come to the area. As the race teams filtered into the pit area stories of Bobby Allen’s unwavering influence and impact on the sport throughout his lifetime were at the center of many fond conversations. With an earlier start time to beat Mother Nature and allow for some time to honor Bobby Allen, there were 46 potent sprint car teams ready to race in the Keystone Showdown at Lincoln Speedway. It was elbows up time in the Pigeon Hills of Pennsylvania – Scruffy style to honor the legend.

Lincoln Speedway was the early stomping grounds for the 1990 Knoxville Nationals Champion and eventual National Sprint Car Hall of Fame (Class of 1998) inductee, Bobby “Scruffy” Allen, who called nearby Hanover home with pride after moving North from Florida to race in Pennsylvania. The legendary driver and personality raced at Lincoln Speedway and honed his talents before heading out on the road with the World of Outlaws (WoO) in the late 70’s. In fact, per the write up for his induction into the NSCHoF, it is noted that he and wife Doris sometimes slept in trucks, under trucks, or in the ticket booth at Lincoln until they were run off during the early days of his career. “Whatever It Takes” became an unstated motto for Scruffy’s life. Bobby Allen never met an obstacle that he did not think he could overcome, even when others doubted him, when he set his mind to accomplish it. That strategy became a hallmark for his successful career as a driver and car/team owner. The beloved father of Jacob Allen, Dana Allen, and Robin Allen, as well as the proud grandfather to Logan Schuchart, this spirited legend made his mark in the sport and always had sprint car passion oozing out of his pores until his very last day. He passed away at the age of 81 years old last Sunday, October 5, 2025. While his smile, jovial personality, and presence at the racetrack will be missed forever, he and the family will carry his legacy forward and keep his spirit shining.

When WEDG High Performance Karts Hot Laps concluded, the drivers in the first set of time trials began to lineup in the pit area staging lane parallel to the backstretch at Lincoln Speedway. The late Greg Hodnett established the one-lap track record here in the Pigeon Hills back on April 30, 2016, with a lap of 12.577 seconds. Dominic Melair #55M would be the first driver to hit the moist surface in Flight 1 of Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying. Slated to go out fourth in Flight 2, Carson watched the first group as they qualified before he climbed into his office and nestled into his Sharp Advantage custom fitted seat insert as he buckled into his Crow Enterprizes safety belts. When Gage Pulkrabek #G5 tripped the light to end his timed session, Carson’s Kistler Engines power rumbled as he rolled up onto the track in turn three aboard the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/CS Productions/Ben Cook Race Car Products #41 Maxim. The native Californian did not waste anytime letting the horses out to run as he pedaled down as he took the green flag displayed on the flagstand screen. The numbers were rolling by quickly as they measured the Lemoore, California driver’s work. He exited turn four for the initial time and ended his first attempt in 13.435 seconds. Before those numbers could even pop up on the scoreboard, Carson was already working his way through the first set of corners one last time in time trials. He bolted down the back chute and into turn three hoping to carry his speed off turn four and across the finish line. When his second attempt was recorded, the time on the clock read 13.290 seconds. The better of his two qualifying attempts ended up second quick overall in Flight 2 right behind David Gravel who circled Lincoln Speedway in 13.111 seconds in that session. Anthony Macri piloting the C&D Rigging #39M was the quickest driver overall out of the first Flight at 13.073 seconds to earn the Simpson Quick Time Award.

The starting lineups for the four 10-lap Heat races posted in the pit area based on each driver’s best lap time in Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying. That put the Tarlton and Son/Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/Boltz Family #41 Maxim in the first starting spot on the grid of The Greatest Store on Dirt Heat Race #4. He would pull the forty-one up on the inside of Brock Zearfoss #8 on the front row with Ashton Torgerson in the Shark Racing #1a and Dylan Norris #17N following in row two. Pacing together in row three were Sheldon Haudenschild in the NOS Energy Drink #17 and Matt Campbell #X with Gerard McIntyre #2M and Kyle Moody #99M in row four. Lucas Wolfe #5W, Chris Arnold #23A, and Olivia Thayer #39T filled out the starting grid rolling in rows five and six, respectively.

The field was nose-to-tail ready to stomp on the loud pedal out of turn four the next time by. When they arrived, Carson got the cars up to speed as he zoomed to the front of the pack with Brock Zearfoss and Sheldon Haudenschild behind applying the pressure as they made their way around Lincoln on the opening lap of the race.

The field of racers started to fan out as the laps clicked by with Carson still out front in the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 trying to extend his lead over the remaining chasers behind him. The driver of the forty-one never wavered or glanced back as he hustled to the Heat race victory crossing the line 1.212 seconds ahead of Brock Zearfoss with Sheldon Haudenschild racing home third. Ashton Torgerson crossed the finish line fourth with Kyle Moody picking up the fifth and final transfer position. The top two finishers advanced onto the Toyota Dash to battle it out for their starting positions in the A-Main.

Officials were attempting to keep the program moving along so the pill draw for the 8-lap Toyota Dash tool place in the infield at the World of Outlaws Command Center. Chad Trout #1X had the lucky hand and would start from the pole position with David Gravel #2 to his outside on the front row. Lance Dewease #12 and Anthony Macri #39M paired up in row two with Carson Macedo #41 and Buddy Kofoid #83 in an all-California row three. The last row featured Brock Zearfoss and Chase Dietz #23D. The field of eight cars lined up as they were ready to go. These drivers were racing for their starting spots in the A-Main, so it was time to get down to business at Lincoln Speedway. David Gravel used his outside front row starting spot to drive into the lead ahead of Chad Trout on the opening lap with Carson getting shuffled back to seventh place. Anthony Macri was on the move as he was stalking Trout for the runner-up position, eventually moving by him on lap 6. Carson also made a move for position on the same lap as he raced back into the sixth spot racing by Lance Dewease. David Gravel took the Dash win ahead of Macri, Trout, Kofoid, and Dietz with Carson Macedo driving the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 home sixth. Lance Dewease finished seventh with Brock Zearfoss scored as the eighth place finisher.

After the completion of the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown where four more drivers locked into the A-Main, the field of stars were set for the 35-lap Keystone Showdown feature. David Gravel in the Big Game Motorsports #2 lined up in the pole position and would have the honor of leading the field to the green flag with Anthony Macri in the J&S Classics/C&D Rigging #39M sharing the front row. Those two competitors earned the coveted starting spots after finishing first and second in the Toyota Dash. Behind them in row two found Chad Trout #1X and Buddy Kofoid in the Roth Enterprises/Mobil 1 #83 with Chase Dietz #23D and Carson Macedo #41 in row three. Lance Dewease and Brock Zearfoss made up row four and were ready to go.

The fans were ready. The drivers were set as they spread out into their traditional four-wide salute to the fans. Tonight was different though as they were missing one of their own – Bobby Allen. In honor of the legend that recently passed away, polesitter David Gravel respectfully pulled out of line as Logan Schuchart in the Shark Racing #1s and Ashton Torgerson in the Shark Racing #1a pulled out in front of the field to honor the legend leading the ceremonial missing man formation with a single spot on the pole unoccupied to honor a fallen hero – Bobby “Scruffy” Allen. A fitting show of respect for one of the best in sprint car racing. A job well done Lincoln Speedway’s promotion team, World of Outlaws officials, and all the competitors.

When they broke formation, Carson accelerated the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Scott Boyd Family/Winters Performance Products #41 back onto the outside of row three anticipating and eager to get the race started. It was “go-time’ at Lincoln Speedway in the Keystone Showdown.

The yellow safety lights dimmed in anticipation if the green flag waving next time by. When the starters on the front row reached the temporary chalk stripe laid down across turn four, 27 drivers, including the three provisional starters, got down to business World of Outlaws style.

David Gravel powered into the early race lead ahead of Anthony Macri and Chad Trout with Carson driving into the fifth position behind Buddy Kofoid. With one lap in the books, the yellow flag displayed as Lance Dewease was off the pace as he slowed in turn one.

The remaining drivers would realign in their double file restart order with Carson pulling to the inside of Chase Dietz in row three. The green flag would come back out with 34 laps to go with Anthony Macri ripping the top and driving around David Gravel to take over the race lead. Carson was closing in on Chad Trout for the fourth position and made his way around him on lap 3.

The driver of the forty-one was fast and immediately started to focus on tracking down third running Buddy Kofoid. On lap 5, he caught him and drove around Kofoid’s right rear off turn four to take command of the show position. Carson had a fast Albaugh #41 hotrod and was having a blast.

He now turned his attention to second running David Gravel. Carson buried his right foot and used his horsepower to power his way around the defending World of Outlaws champion and current point leader and was now running in second place and closing in on the race leader as they maneuvered through lap traffic with 12 laps completed.

On lap 13, the yellow flag was out for David Gravel who was running fifth but slowed and headed to the work area with engine issues. David was unable to rejoin the field and was scored with a 26th place finish after his night ended early.

That positioned Carson side-by-side with the race leader for the restart. When Anthony Macri pounded the loud pedal, Carson did the same and the race for the lead was back on. Macri maintained it, but Macedo was staring down his rear nerf bar. Macedo looked low but was unable to make the pass as Macri powered off the top side carrying huge momentum down the back straightaway. He used speed to extend his lead over Carson eventually building a 1.5 plus second lead with 12 laps to go.

Before another lap could be completed though the yellow flag was back out, this time for Danny Dietrich who slowed and exited the track off turn two with apparent engine issues too. Rather than going to the work area he headed back to the trailer with his night over. He was scored with a 24th place finish.

Carson would have another shot at the lead with the field doubling up again for the restart. Anthony Macri again blasted into the lead with Carson staying right with him again. Chase Dietz moved into third with Buddy Kofoid and Brock Zearfoss running in the top five.

Carson was challenging for the lead off the low side of turn two when he slowed dramatically down the backstretch with mechanical woes. He too rolled by the work area and headed back of his trailer with a blown engine resulting in a 23rd place finish. Another great run for Macedo and the forty-one up in smoke!

Anthony Macri, representing the Pennsylvania Posse, would lead Chase Dietz back up to speed. The two talented racers put on a good show over the next 16 laps with Macri collecting the World of Outlaws win at Lincoln in the Keystone Showdown over Chase Dietz with Buddy Kofoid coming home third, Sheldon Haudenschild fourth, and Troy Wagaman Jr. completing the top five.

A tough night for the JJR #41 team, but they will turn their attention to better days ahead as they have three consecutive race night next weekend starting Friday night at Lincoln Park Speedway (Putnamville Showdown) in Indiana before traveling to LaSalle Speedway (LaSalle Showdown) on Saturday night and capping off the weekend at Angell Park Speedway in Wisconsin for the reschedule Badger State Triple.
