GAS MASHING MONDAY: A FAST NIGHT OF COMPETITION TO WRAP UP THE BIKE WEEK JAMBOREE EVENT AT VOLUSIA SPEEDWAY PARKS RESULTS IN A TOP FIVE RUN FOR CARSON MACEDO AND THE JJR FORTY-ONE!
BARBERVILLE, FLORIDA (March 3, 2025) – What can be better than one night of racing at Volusia Speedway Park to kick off March? How about a second night of high-speed action at the blazing quick half-mile oval? That is exactly what was in store for the fans in the stands, as well as those tuned into DIRTVision, as Carson Macedo and his fellow World of Outlaws competitors were back at the track for night two of Bike Week Jamboree. After finishing seventh on the opening night, the JJR #41 team was ready to get back on track. The sun was shining overhead with its rays glistening off the track’s surface. It was beautiful and it was race day at Volusia Speedway Park. There were 32 strong race teams lined up with the crews working on their speed machines to prepare for another night of intense competition in Florida.
The action would begin with the speed test for each of the drivers in Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying. The time trial order was set based on the numbered pill they selected in the Eloy Gutierrez Pill Draw. By the luck of the draw, Carson would be the 21st speed chauffeur out on the track in the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Maxim Racing/FK Rod Ends #41. After using the recent time off to continue his rehabilitation back into form, Carson climbed into the cockpit and buckled into his Crow Enterprizes safety belts before pushing towards the staging lane. When the push truck tapped his rear nerf bar his Kistler Racing Engines power came to life as he massaged the accelerator. He raced by the waving green flag as the second hand on the clock started rolling. This place is big, but it certainly does not take long to get around this fast, half-mile track. When Carson darted through the timing stripe after lap one, the clock read 13.339 seconds. The Californian stayed on the loud pedal. He was carrying his momentum around the speedway on his final circuit. This time Carson blasted off turn four and raced under the waving checkered flag stopping the clock in 13.458 seconds. The quicker of his two laps positioned him third quick overall on the speed charts. David Gravel ran the fastest lap of the night again at 13.252 seconds to earn his second consecutive Simpson Quick Time Award.

The lineups for the four 8-lap heat races posted and the WIX Filters Heat #3 was stacked with talent. Carson Macedo earned the pole position aboard the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Boltz Family/Crow Enterprizes #41 Maxim. He pulled alongside fellow Californian, Giovanni Scelzi #18, on the front row. Row two of the lineup found another California native, Buddy Kofoid #83, and 10-time World of Outlaws champion Donny Schatz #15. Just behind them in the third row was Sheldon Haudenschild #17 and Chris Martin #44 with Ryan Harrison #97UK and Joshua Kunstbeck #11K in the final row.
When the flagman waved the green flag, it was Carson Macedo racing into the lead as he was the first driver to turn one ahead of Scelzi and Kofoid. He was hammer down and making tracks around Volusia Speedway Park’s fast racing surface. Giovanni Scelzi was keeping the driver of the Albaugh #41 in his sights, but Carson was in full control. He stayed focused and hit his mark in each of the eight circuits to collect his fourth heat race victory of the season as he crossed the finish line 1.862 seconds ahead of Scelzi. Those two drivers would lock into the Dash. Coming home third was Buddy Kofoid with Donny Schatz and Sheldon Haudenschild securing the final two transfer positions.
Making his way up to the stage on the frontstretch, Carson was hoping to pull a low number for his starting spot in the 6-lap Toyota Dash after pulling the highest number on Sunday night. When he pulled the pill out of the oversized NOS Energy Drink can he was holding the number three, which put him on the inside of row two beside WoO Rookie of the Year contender Hunter Schuerenberg #55. They would pace behind front row starters Giovanni Scelzi #18 and Jacob Allen #1A. Sunday Night’s winner, David Gravel #2, and Logan Schuchart #1A were rolling in row three with Cole Macedo #2C and Bill Balog #17B in row four. Giovanni Scelzi wasted no time claiming the top spot when they got up to racing speed as he led early. Carson advanced up to the second spot as he made the pass on Allen in turn two on the opening lap with David Gravel following him into third. The running order up front would not change throughout the three mile Dash with Giovanni Scelzi taking the win over Carson Macedo, David Gravel, and Hunter Schuerenberg with Jacob Allen, Logan Schuchart, Cole Macedo, and Bill Balog completing the finishing order.

After the 3/4- Modifieds wrapped up their feature race, the sprint cars rolled out on the track to stage for the Bike Week Jamboree finale at Volusia Speedway Park. Giovanni Scelzi #18 and Carson Macedo #41 would lead the field from the front row with David Gravel #2 and Hunter Schuerenberg #55 right behind in row two. Those four drivers were showcased as The Greatest Show on Dirt went four-wide to salute the fans in the stands.
After they raced back into their side-by-side starting positions, the yellow lights turned off in anticipation for the green flag coming out. Off the fourth turn, the green flag waved with Giovanni Scelzi blasting into the lead ahead of Macedo, Gravel, and Schuerenberg. Carson looked low through the first set of turns to see if there was a way by Scelzi. The top three were all together when the first yellow flag of the night was displayed before the first lap could be recorded when Austin McCarl spun as he nosed into the inside wall on the frontstretch.
The race leader selected the inside lane for the restart which put Carson Macedo and the Tarlton and Son/Pro Powder Coating/T-FAB Metal Fabrication #41 in the outside lane for the restart. The green flag came back out with 21 laps to go with Scelzi, Macedo, and Gravel dueling up front. The live racing action would be short-lived when Justin Peck #26 and Emerson Axsom #27 got together collecting Conner Morrell #28M in the middle of the first set of turns to bring the yellow flag back out.
This time it would be a single file restart. Giovanni Scelzi had his Aspen Aire #18 ready to rocket back up to speed when the green lights turned back on. They recorded another lap before the third caution of the night came out for Cole Macedo #2C who drifted to a stop in turns three and four. The restart running order would be Scelzi, Carson Macedo, David Gravel, Hunter Schuerenberg, and Logan Schuchart.
The remaining cars got back up to speed with 20 laps to go with Giovanni Scelzi still showing the way. Carson looked underneath the leader again to see if he could power by, but Scelzi carried his speed and momentum around the top to keep the top spot. Carson now had his hands full with the hard-charging, defending World of Outlaws champion as they raced for the runner-up position.
On lap 11, David Gravel moved into the second spot relegating Carson back to third. The bottom lane was coming in fast and Gravel found it first. The driver of the Big Game Motorsports #2 stayed on the gas and quickly closed in on the race leader. By lap 15, he had caught him and moved underneath him into the lead. Gravel immediately put a sizable big gap between himself and second running Scelzi.
Another racer on the move was Logan Schuchart #1s who was also working the low lane and carrying his speed forward. He was pressuring Carson for the final podium position and on lap 18 made the pass for third. Carson moved down into that lane and showed speed and consistency for the balance of the race. David Gravel took the win to sweep the Bike Week Jamboree with Logan Schuchart making a late race pass for second crossing the line ahead of Giovanni Scelzi who rounded out the podium.
Carson raced home fourth to earn his third top five finish in six races. Jacob Allen raced home fifth after an impressive showing in Florida.
Carson and the JJR #41 team will be back in action Friday night at the Talladega Short Track in the Dega Duel before heading to Columbus, Mississippi on Saturday to compete in the Black Ice Brawl at Magnolia Motor Speedway. If you are in the area, be sure to make plans to watch some of the best in the business do their thing in Alabama and Mississippi. If you cannot make it out to the track, be sure to clear your schedules and tune in on DIRTVision.
