FINAL BELL RINGS: A QUICK START DEFLATED BY A LATE RACE FLAT TIRE WHILE RUNNING FOURTH DAMPENS CARSON MACEDO’S NIGHT DURING ROUND #3 OF SHELDON HAUDENSCHILD’S BUCKEYE BRAWL AT SHARON SPEEDWAY
HARTFORD, OHIO (October 10, 2026) – After charging to a third place finish at Mansfield Speedway in Round #2 of Sheldon Haudenschild’s Buckeye Brawl on Friday night, Carson and the Jason Johnson Racing (JJR) crew loaded up and continued their journey east with a stop at Sharon Speedway located in Northeast Ohio. This reconfigured 3/8-mile track has produced unbelievable finishes over recent years as the surface is technical and brings out the best among all the drivers. The Hartford Hustle event was canceled earlier this season due to weather, so these hometown fans were more than ready to watch the World of Outlaws (WoO) stars race around their local track. Sharon Speedway is one of the oldest, continuously running racetracks in the United States. The track is celebrating their 97th anniversary this season which is just incredible but not surprising. Throughout those years greats like Tom Sneva, Tony Stewart, Lee Petty, Dave Blaney, Kyle Larson, Dale Blaney, and Christopher Bell are among a lengthy list of drivers who have competed here since it opened in 1929. The pit area was bustling again with energy and activity as the 54 race teams prepared for the evening of entertaining action in Round #3 of Sheldon Haudenschild’s Buckeye Brawl at Sharon Speedway. It was the third consecutive night of racing in the Buckeye State of Ohio for the World of Outlaws competitors!
After Race//Ready Hot Laps it was time for Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying. There would be two qualifying groups with 27 cars in each group. The time trial order posted for all to see as the cars in Flight A began to line up in the staging area to prepare for their two laps around this historic joint. After Zane DeVault #14 and Donny Schatz #15 completed their two loops at speed, it was Carson Macedo’s turn to make speed in the shortest amount of time. He rolled the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Durst Inc./FK Rod Ends #41 Maxim onto the racing surface as he accelerated up to speed. Fellow Californian Buddy Kofoid, behind the wheel of the Roth Motorsports/Mobil 1 #83, would join him out on the track. Carson raced under the green flag focused on hitting his marks and carrying his speed forward. He made his way around Sharon Speedway the first time in 13.713 seconds but was looking for more speed the next time around. This time when he exited turn four the black and white checkered cloth was flying in the air to end his timed session in 13.641 seconds for lap two. The last lap was his quickest one which positioned him fastest overall in Flight A on the final speed charts earning the Simpson Quick Time Award to begin the Buckeye Brawl at Sharon Speedway. In Flight B, David Gravel in the Big Game Motorsports #2 found his way around the 3/8-mile track in 13.937 seconds.

The lineups for each of the four 8-lap Heat Races were set at Sharon Speedway. Carson Macedo rolled the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/Pro Powder Coating (PPC)/Vortex Racing Products #41 into the pole position on the front row pacing alongside Steven Snyder Jr. in the Three Stooges Racing #51 for NOS Energy Drink Heat Race #1. Donny Schatz #15 and Garet Williamson #23 lined up in row two with Zane DeVault #14 and Logan McCandless #29 close behind in row three. Filling the remaining starting spots in the grid were Trey Jacobs #3JJ, Brandon Spithaler #22, Henry Malcuit #70, and Jeremy Kornbau #32B. There were five transfer positions up for grabs with ten drivers chasing them.
The green flag waved, and the race was on around Sharon Speedway. The field of cars and stars blasted by the grandstands on the front straightaway with all eyes following their every move. It was another packed house to see the World of Outlaws in Ohio. Carson controlled the early race lead with Steven Snyder Jr. and Donny Schatz battling while they chased him in his tracks trying to keep pace.
Carson had the Jason Johnson Racing (JJR) speed machine moving and grooving out front as he was stretching his lead over Snyder Jr. and Schatz with each completed lap. They passed the halfway point of the race as light rain turned into a downpour stopping the qualifying race and sending the cars back to their trailers to attempt to wait out the rain.
After an hour plus rain delay, the cars in the first Heat race re-fired and were back on the track to finish the remaining three laps of their qualifying race. It would be a single file restart with the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 out front followed by Steven Snyder Jr., Donny Schatz, Garet Williamson, and Zane DeVault followed by McCandless, Jacobs, Wagner, Spithaler, Malcuit, and Kornbau.
Carson gassed it up and darted out into the clean air. He was digging and used his speed to pull away from everyone else. After the moisture delay Donny Schatz started third but drove around Steven Snyder Jr. on the high side to move into the runner-up position.
Carson Macedo went on to win the Heat race by almost two seconds over Donny Schatz as they both advanced into the Toyota Dash. Gaining the final three transfer spots out of the qualifying race were Garet Williamson, Steven Snyder Jr., and Zane DeVault.
The drivers redrew for their starting spots in the Toyota Dash. Carson has not had much luck pulling low numbers in this part of the show, but that’s all part of the game. When the eight numbers were all gone, the starting lineup for the six lap sprint race found Cameron Smith #1a and Donny Schatz #15 together on the front row with Logan Schuchart #1s and Cole Macedo #2c stuck behind them in row two. Carson Macedo #41 and David Gravel #2 pulled into row three with Buddy Kofoid #83 and Emerson Axsom #27 stuck all the way back in row four. These beautiful machines were side-by-side ready to race for their starting spots in the money paying feature. Where they finished this Dash is where they would start in the Buckeye Brawl at Sharon Speedway to close out the World of Outlaws competitive tour in Ohio.
The green flag waved with Donny Schatz using the grippy outside line to wrestle the lead away from polesitter Cameron Smith as sixth starting David Gravel also ripped around the top moving as far up as third place before settling back into the fourth spot during the early going. Carson slipped back to sixth place at the start of the Dash but eventually moved by Cole Macedo to regain the fifth spot on the fourth lap. The racing surface was fast, and these speed athletes were showing off their skills. Donny Schatz dominated the Dash taking the win by 2.922 seconds over Cameron Smith with Logan Schuchart finishing third, David Gravel fourth, and Carson Macedo locking down fifth. Finishing in positions six through eight were Cole Macedo, Buddy Kofoid, and Emerson Axsom.

The air horn sounded throughout the pit area to summon the 24 race teams back to the track for the Round #3 of Sheldon Haudenschild’s Buckeye Brawl A-Main feature at Sharon Speedway. The distance would be thirty laps and there would be $18,000 awaiting the winner of the race again along with another cool trophy. The competitors in this sport are motivated by both types of awards, and they are appreciated as the one helps to cover the bills while the other one ensures providing a memory that will last forever. Starting on the front row of the grand finale were Donny Schatz #15 and Cameron Smith #1a who finished in the top two spots in the Toyota Dash. Rolling in behind them were Logan Schuchart #1s and David Gravel #2 in row two with the Macedo Brothers together again in row three with Carson on the inside and Cole on the outside. Row four showcased Buddy Kofoid #83 and Emerson Axsom #27 beside each other.
The Kistler Engines power fired on the Tarlton and Son/High Performance Lubricants/AutoMeter #41 Maxim of Carson Macedo who paced in the fifth starting spot. The Lemoore, California speedster really likes racing here at Sharon Speedway and was pumped and ready to go when the flagman showed the field the rolled up flag indicating the field would go green the next time by.
Out of turn four the silence of the night turned into loud ambient 410 music to the race fan’s ears. Donny Schatz did not waste any time as he raced out to the early lead with one lap in the books. Following closely behind him in second place was Logan Schuchart with Cameron Smith, David Gravel, and Carson Macedo rounding out the top five with a lot of racing left to go.
The next time around Carson drove the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 into the fourth position as he moved by David Gravel to take the spot behind three “S’s” – Schatz, Schuchart, and Smith. Carson had speed and quickly started to reel in the Shark Racing #1a of Cameron Smith.
On lap 3, the yellow flag was thrown for Cole Macedo who got into the outside wall in turn four, but he never stopped and blended back into the same position he was running in before the contact. They re-aligned and soon went green flag racing again, but the caution lights came back on quickly this time for Spencer Bayston and Zane DeVault who made contact down the frontstretch sending them spinning into turn one.
The second caution created a single file restart when they went back racing. Carson held down the fourth spot on the scoreboard but was still working hard to get by Cameron Smith. Macedo hounded him for three more laps before making his way around him using the outside lane.
Carson was now racing from the show position behind race leader Donny Schatz and runner-up Logan Schuchart. Schuchart skillfully maneuvered his Drydene/Shark Racing #1s around the bottom and soon was right on Schatz’s rear bumper. On lap 12, he made the pass for the lead and quickly used his speed to separate himself from the lead lap cars.
Lurking behind them though and coming forward fast was Friday night’s winner Sheldon Haudenschild in the KCP Racing/NOS Energy Drink #18. He started tenth but was now running in fourth place putting enormous pressure on the driver of the forty-one for the third spot. That orange and blue NOS Energy Drink sprint car was coming fast.
On lap 17, Haudenschild passed Macedo for third place and three laps later did the same to second place running Donny Schatz. Now the only car on the track ahead of the Wooster, Ohio born racer was Hanover, Pennsylvania’s Logan Schuchart. Carson continued to work hard, and five laps later hustled by the ten-time World of Outlaws champion, Donny Schatz, into the show position behind Schuchart and Haudenschild.
Carson continued to work the cushion around the top right up next to the wall. Yikes he was close to the outside wall. He bounced off the wall allowing Schatz to slip back by him to move back into the third spot. Carson was off the pace and slowing quickly with a flat right rear tire after making hard contact with the outside wall at the exit of turn two. He headed to the pits but there was no guaranteed time in the Federated Car Care Work Zone. His night was over when the race restarted before he could rejoin ending his night. Carson late race misfortune relegating him all the way back to 23rd place in the finishing order. An unfortunate result after the night began so promising and he was having such a strong run in the feature up until that point of the race.
When racing resumed with seven laps to go, Sheldon Haudenschild moved by Logan Schuchart out of turn four and down the front straightaway to take the lead. He led the remainder of the feature laps to collect his second consecutive win of the weekend and eleventh overall on the season. Logan Schuchart crossed the finish line second with David Gravel, Garet Williamson, and Donny Schatz completing the top five.
With the Fall swing through Ohio now in the rearview mirror, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series heading westward to the “Hoosier State” of Indiana next Friday for a bullring tussle at Lincoln Park Speedway (10/16) in the Cushion Capital Clash. Catch all the action on DIRTVision. #CushionCapital Clash
