BUILDING AT BEAVER DAM: THE JJR #41 TEAM PUTS IN A DETERMINED EFFORT AT THE 15TH ANNUAL JIM “JB” BOYD MEMORIAL LEADING AND BATTLING HARD AS THEY RACED TO AN EIGHTH PLACE FINISH IN THE ALBAUGH #41
BEAVER DAM, WISCONSIN (June 7, 2025) – When the rumble of the engines quieted on Friday night at the Plymouth Dirt Track, the Jason Johnson Racing (JJR) team loaded up their race equipment after Carson Macedo raced to a fourth-place finish in the opening night of the Badger State Triple, trucking Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT) style sixty miles to Beaver Dam Raceway. There were 36 proven race teams registered that pulled through the pit gates for an opportunity to race for the $20,000 winner’s share of the purse in the 15th Annual Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial race at Beaver Dam presented by SLS Promotions. This three-eighths mile racetrack is meticulously prepared by the track crew with the goal of producing the best entertainment possible on four wheels. It was time to go racing on another beautiful Wisconsin day at Beaver Dam Raceway – World of Outlaws NOS energy Drink style!
The Boltz Family/Xtreme Body & Paint/All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads #41 with Carson Macedo behind the wheel would be the sixteenth car out on the track in Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying. The wheelman from Lemoore, California climbed into his office aboard his Maxim Racing chassis ready to make speed from the comfort of his Fibreworks Composites carbon fiber seat with a custom Sharp Advantage insert. Car Chief, Robby McQuinn, assisted getting him to the staging area using the four-wheeler as Carson contemplated his speed strategy. After Josh Schneiderman #49J completed his two laps in qualifying it was Carson’s turn against the clock. Macedo did not waste a moment of time getting up to speed as he raced towards the waving green flag to start lap one. He was rocking and rolling in the Albaugh – Your Alternative forty-one enjoying his speed making experience. His time after his first lap was 11.478 seconds. He rallied around Beaver Dam one last time looking to pick up any time he may have left out on the track the first go ‘round. When his second lap time popped up on the MyRacePass app it was 11.481 seconds, which was slightly worse than his first attempt timewise. The better of his two laps was sixth quick overall when time trial concluded. David Gravel collected another Simpson Quick Time Award honor, his eleventh of the 2025 season, to start the night as he circled Beaver Dam Raceway in 11.4338 seconds.
Each driver earned a starting spot in one of the four 10-lap Heat races based on their quickest lap in time trial qualifying. For Carson that meant he would get the Border International/Factory Kahne (FK) Shocks/ISC Racers Tape #41 Maxim rolling from the second position in Real American Beer Heat Race #2. Rico Abreu, Friday night’s winner at Plymouth and one of the hottest drivers in the country, pulled his Abreu Vineyards/ShopRico.com #24 to the inside of Macedo on the front row. Ten-time World of Outlaws champion Donny Schatz #15 lined up third with Bryce Norris #37 to his outside in row two. Skylar Gee #99 and Giovanni Scelzi #18 were in row three with Logan Julie #85J and Kelby Watt #1K in the next row. Travis Arentz #25T was alone in row five for the start of the qualifying race.
Carson’s right foot was excitingly waiting to be summoned into action when the green flag came out. The yellow lights around the track turned off as the field slowly worked their way over to turn four. Upon arrival the chalk dust flew in the air as the race was on at Beaver Dam. Carson used his Kistler Racing Engines to power into the lead entering turn one as he led Rico Abreu and Donny Schatz when the first lap was completed and in the books. All the drivers chasing the leader though were determined and in hot pursuit as there were races for the transfer positions. Carson was setting a quick pace in the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 and using the clean sir to his advantage. He led the race from start-to-finish to collect his sixth consecutive Heat race win crossing the start/finish line by 1.971 seconds ahead of Rico Abreu as those two would advance to the Dash. Donny Schatz came home third with Giovanni Scelzi and Bryce Norris locking down the final two transfer positions out of the second qualifying race.

The top two finishers from each Heat race headed to the flagstand to draw for their starting position in the 8-lap Toyota Dash. Carson would be the second driver to pick a number from the oversized NOS Energy Drink can and pulled the SPA Technique #1 Redraw award. HE would start from the pole position with fellow California gasser Brad Sweet to his outside. Sheldon Haudenschild #17 and Rico Abreu #24 paced behind in row two with Zach Hampton #6 and David Gravel #2 in row three. Pennsylvania invader Anthony Macri in the J&S Classics #39M and Scotty Thiel #51 were beside each other in row four. They rolled around slowly in front of a packed house who paid to see the best in the business go to work. The green flag wave with Carson accelerating into the lead in the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT) #41 ahead of Brad Sweet’s NAPA Auto Parts #49 when the first lap was logged. Carson was kicking up the dirt racing around the cushion to carry his speed. He did not bobble at all and led wire-to-wire to win the Dash ahead of Brad Sweet, Rico Abreu, and Sheldon Haudenschild with David Gravel, Zach Hampton, Anthony Macri, and Scotty Thiel completed the finishing order.

With the nighttime skies starting to surround the area, the lights around the track illuminated with the only thing left to do was race the 40-lap 15th Annual Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial feature. This type of event is what it the sport is all about as it honors a legend as well as pays two hundred Ben Franklins, $100 bills, waiting for the winning team in victory lane. The twenty-four drivers that earned a starting position in the field, with one provisional starter added to the lineup, were hungry and driven to chase the money from wherever they began the race.
Carson would start from the pole position aboard the Albaugh – Your Alternative/KSE Racing Products/Jansen Transportation #41 Maxim flanked by Brad Sweet in the Kasey Kahne Racing (KKR)/NAPA Auto Parts #49 on the front row. Rico Abreu in the Pacific Boring/CURB Records #24 and the NOS Energy Drink #17 with Sheldon Haudenschild behind the wheel in row two. David Gravel in the Big Game Motorsports #2 and Zach Hampton in the Bill Rose #6 followed the talented tandem of stars ahead of the from the third row.
Carson looked to attack the track at the start to stay out in front of the running order when the green flag waved. After the four-wide salute, the fans in the packed grandstands thought about sitting down but decided otherwise because why waste their time as the race was about to go green.
The sprint car enthusiasts were standing and watching attentively as the green flag waved to start the race. They were loud and proud cheering for their favorite driver before the noise from the engines drowned them out. Carson was on the gas first and led the opening lap with Brad Sweet and Sheldon Haudenschild right behind.
Carson was using the open track in front of him to show of his speed as he widened the gap between himself and Sweet in the early laps. He was fast and was closing in on the back of the pack. He would soon need to navigate the slower traffic while trying to fend off the chasers behind him.
On lap 5, the caution flag displayed for Kameron Key #12X who slowed in turn four. When they got back up to speed under green flag conditions it was Carson leading Sweet, Abreu, Haudenschild, and Gravel around the three-eighths mile oval. Macedo was still showing the way but the driver of the KKR #49 was not letting him get too far ahead.
With ten laps in the books the two California aces were out front, but the defending World of Outlaws champion, David Gravel, was patiently running the bottom and making moves. He would make a two-car pass by Haudenschild and Macri to move from fifth place to take over the show position.
The leaders were dicing through lapped cars at speed. On lap 14, the yellow flag came out when David Gravel got into the back of the slower car of Kameron Key and spins in turn four but keeps going. The drivers of the JJR #41 and KKR #49 were racing up on the top side of the racing surface, so they avoided any of the action.

The driver of the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 would lead Sweet and Gravel, who maintained his running position because he never stopped on the track, as the leaders were busy going fast again. Carson again used the clean air to build his lead as Gravel moved by Sweet for second. Sweet then moved back into the runner-up spot as he passed Gravel on the twenty-fifth circuit.
With thirty laps recorded, Carson was out in front with Brad Sweet, Anthony Macri, David Gravel, and Sheldon Haudenschild all behind with the Lemoore, California driver within striking distance. Brad Sweet was closing quickly as he was watching the leader. The track was evolving with areas of slick and grip. On lap 32, Carson entered low and hit the slick as Sweet grabbed the grip around the top to take the lead for the first time in the race.
Carson stayed the course and now was the chaser in the race as Sweet started hustle with the laps waning. On lap 38, Carson clipped the inside tractor tire in turn four and spun, keeping the car going but lost six spots in the running order. He was now running eighth with two laps to go.
Brad Sweet came out on top with Anthony Macri racing to a runner-up finish as Sheldon Haudenschild rounded out the podium. Carson led 31 laps and salvaged an eighth-place finish on the night. An impressive performance all night for Macedo and the forty-one team. They will have no time to lick their wounds as they are back in action on Sunday night at Angell Park Speedway for the last race of the Badger State Triple.
