BACK FOR MORE SUNSHINE: THE WORLD OF OUTLAWS RETURNED TO VOLUSIA SPEEDWAY PARK FOR BIKE WEEK JAMBOREE EVENT WITH CARSON MACEDO WHEELING THE FORTY-ONE TO A 7TH PLACE FINISH ON THE OPENING NIGHT
BARBERVILLE, FLORIDA (March 2, 2025) – When the dust settled following the 54th running of the DIRTcar Nationals last month, the teams scattered back across the country to their shops. For those drivers competing on the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series, their paths would all lead back to Florida again in early March for the two-day Bike Week Jamboree event at Volusia Speedway Park. This half-mile oval is known for its’ speed and ability to transform into a technical racing surface as the night goes on, which displays these talented athletes adaptability and skills. On Friday night, there were 33 race teams registered in at the pit gate ready to put on another exciting show – World of Outlaws style – in The Sunshine State of Florida.
It would be single group time trials this night during Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying. Each driver would get the track to themselves for two laps looking to create speed and beat the clock. Each of the teams had drawn a numbered pill when they arrived at the Timing and Scoring table in the Eloy Gutierrez Pill Draw. When the order was posted, low number to high number, Carson Macedo would go our late, 32nd speed chauffeur out of 33 entries. He was driving the sleek looking Albaugh – Your Alternative/Prime Composite Innovations/Vortex Racing Products #41 Maxim designed by BlackBeard. He flipped the shield down on his Bell Helmet and was ready to put in the work. Carson raced the JJR entry under the waving green flag as the time on the clock began to measure his performance. He looked fast, but only time would tell. When he crossed the start/finish line after his first lap, the stopwatch read 13.364 seconds. Carson kept his foot in the throttle in an attempt to make more speed throughout his second lap. When he exited off turn four the checkered flag was waving. This time his recorded lap was 13.255 seconds. The better of his two laps was the second one which ended the night third quick overall. David Gravel, driving the Big Game Motorsports #2, earned the Simpson Quick Time Award with an impressive lap in 13.107 seconds.

Each driver’s best lap in time trials then was used to assign them into one of the four 8-lap heat races where the top five finishers earn transfer spots in the feature event later in the night. Philip Dietz, Robby McQuinn, and Adam Zimmerman were busy getting the race trim right for the driver of the forty-one. Carson would get his heat race started from the pole position in the third heat race beside Garet Williamson #23. Conner Morrell #23 and Chris Martin #44 paced behind them in row two followed by Bill Balog #17B and Donny Schatz #15 with Cole Macedo #2C and Tyler Clem #6S in row four.
For the fans in the stand, as well as those tuned in watching every lap on DIRTVision, the show was ready to go as the yellow lights around the track turned off. Out of turn four, the side-by-side organization turned into rumbling chaos as the drivers pounded the loud pedal as the fled down the front straightaway. Carson drove the Albaugh #41 into the lead with Williamson and Morrell just behind in the early stages of the race. Carson had a fast racecar. He put some distance between himself and the competition until the yellow flag flew on lap four for Conner Morrell #28 who was off the pace as he drifted up the track in turn three and coasted to a stop in turn four.
After race officials removing some debris under the yellow flag laps, Carson brought the field back up to speed. The Californian was hustling out front in clean air. He would lead the remaining laps uncontested to take the heat race win, his third in the first five races, crossing the finish line ahead of Garet Williamson and Bill Balog with Donny Schatz and Cole Macedo securing the final two transfer spots.
With his victory in the heat race, Carson put the Tarlton ad Son/Durst Inc./Kistler Racing Engines #41 Maxim into the Toyota Dash for where by the luck of the draw he would start eighth with Sheldon Haudenschild #17 to his inside. Jacob Allen #1A and David Gravel #2 were paired beside each other in the front row with Emerson Axsom #27 and Aaron Reutzel #87 in row two. Pacing in front of Haudenschild and Macedo was Logan Schuchart #1S and Garet Williamson #23.When the green lights turned on, Jacob Allen darted into the lead with Gravel close behind. Carson used his outside starting position to drive around the drivers in front of him before ducking into the fifth spot exiting turn four. Jacob Allen led wire-to-wire to earn the pole position for the feature with Gravel coming home second, Reutzel third, Axsom fourth, and Carson brining the Albaugh #41 home fifth. Logan Schuchart was scored sixth followed by Garet Williamson and Sheldon Haudenschild.

The horn sounded for the 25-lap Bike Week Jamboree feature night as the crew members finished all of their pre-race preparations. The drivers climbed into the cockpit of their speed machines and were ready to put on a show. Jacob Allen #1A and David Gravel #2 would lead the field to the green. The preferred lane early was the outside with Gravel ripping into the top spot when the initial green flag was displayed.
It was short lived though as polesitter Jacob Allen coasted to a stop. He was awarded his starting position back when the reason for the caution was a safety issue – loose belts – so the field lined up to try it again. They would go green gain with Gravel driving the Big Game Motorsports #2 back into the lead. This time the start was negated again when the red flag flew for Danny Sams III who flipped hard in turns three and four. He was ok, but his night was done.
The third time was a charm as Gravel retook the top spot when they got back up to speed with Allen, Axsom, Reutzel, and Schuchart all chasing. Carson was running in the sixth position staying right with the lead pack when the caution flag flew on the third lap for Hunter Schuerenberg slowed to a stop in turn one.
David Gravel was out in front of the field with Jacob Allen, Aaron Reutzel, Emerson Axsom, and Logan Schuchart right behind. Carson Macedo would restart from the sixth position aboard the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Bandy & Associates/FK Rod Ends #41 Maxim.
With 22 laps to go, David Gravel dropped his right foot and the field was back up to speed. Sheldon Haudenschild raced by Carson Macedo into the sixth spot when they got rolling. A few laps later, Carson reclaimed the spot as he raced back underneath the driver of the NOS Energy Drink #17.
On lap 9, the yellow was back out again for Hunter Schuerenberg #55 who continue to be haunted by mechanical issues. Gravel was in command with Reutzel now in second followed by Allen, Schuchart, and Axsom. Carson would restart from the sixth position.
They would go racing again with no change in the running order. The track was fast and clean air was a priority. They would get eight more laps in before the next yellow flag would come out on lap 17 for Bill Balog #17B who slowed on the track.
They went green again and were able to get a few laps in the books before the caution flag flew on lap 23 for Emerson Axsom #27 who got up over the cushion and was off the pace as he stopped in turn two. They tried to restart, but the yellow flag quickly came back out as Anthony Macri #39M was off the pace as he ran out of fuel.
There were two laps to go and the remaining competitors were hoping they had enough fuel to get to the end. David Gravel brought them back up to speed and masterfully completed the last mile of the race to collect the win ahead of Aaron Reutzel, and Jacob Allen with Sheldon Haudenschild and Cole Macedo rounding out the top five.
Carson Macedo brought the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Scott Boyd Family/Team Jack Foundation #41 Maxim home with a seventh place finish as he was fighting off some mechanical gremlins too. He did a terrific job at finishing the race and securing a top tem finish.
Carson and the JJR #41 team will make the necessary adjustments and be back at the track on Monday night for the finale of the Bike Week Jamboree. Catch all of the World of Outlaws exciting action throughout the season on DIRTVision.
