AFTER SETTING QUICK TIME AND WINNING HIS HEAT RACE AT BMP SPEEDWAY, JASON SECURES A TOP FIVE FINISH IN THE BIG SKY BRAWL AT BILLINGS IN THE MESILLA VALLEY TRANSPORTATION (MVT) #41
BILLINGS, MONTANA (August 26, 2017) – The trek to the West Coast in the late summer is always beautiful with stops in South Dakota and Montana as they head to Washington. Jason and the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series made a stop at Billings Motorsports Park (BMP) Speedway on Saturday night, which is located just outside of town to the North. Billings is Montana’s largest city and sits in Yellowstone County. To get there the team trucked five and a half hours through Wyoming to race at the 3/8th mile oval in front of a lot of excited race fans.
With 23 cars entered for the race, the highest pill was pulled for the JJR Marshall Racing #41 team. Not deterred, the driver and team of the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/RACEDIECAST.COM #41 Maxim went about their way and focused on getting their car ready to execute on the track when it was their turn. They were the last car out and the Ragin’ Cajun stormed around the surface using his Kistler Engines horsepower to churn his way forward. He looked fast, and was fast, as his quickest lap was timed at 12.603 seconds, which was quick time on the night. It was his 13th quick time of the season through 70 races to date.
The Louisianan who now calls Rocky Mount, Missouri home would put his forty-one on the pole for the first and fastest heat race of the night as indicated by each driver’s fastest time trial lap. It certainly would not be easy as Donny Schatz shared the front row with Jason as the two Knoxville Nationals champions paced the field for the heat race. The remainder of the field was made up by Jason Sides, Logan Schuchart, Sheldon Haudenschild, Dominic Scelzi, Kraig Kinser and Ned Powers. On the initial start, Jason jumped into the lead and set the pace with Schatz following close behind. The Cajun Sensation was running clean lines and hitting his marks as he built up his speed and momentum throughout the 8-lap event in his Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/Jonestown KOA #41. He would go on to capture the win over a series of S’s – Schatz, Sides, Scelzi and Schuchart with Sheldon Haudenschild securing the final transfer position.
Earning a spot in his 40th Dash event of the season, and impressive 66.67% success rate which is no easy feat, where he would start from the pole position in the Priority Aviation Services, LLC/Valvoline Maxim with Shane Stewart to his outside. Daryn Pittman and Donny Schatz made up row two with David Gravel and Brad Sweet in row three. When the flagman waved the green flag, it was Stewart using the outside lane to grab the lead with Johnson close behind. The two talented chauffeurs were setting the pace with Stewart getting under the checkers first in the 6-lap Craftsman Club Dash followed by Johnson, Schatz, Pittman, Sweet and Gravel.
It was show time in Billings as the 35-lap Big Sky Brawl at Billings feature was the only thing that remained for the night. Philip, Jeff and Jakob finished up their work and rolled the car onto the speedway for the main event. After Johnny Gibson notified the fans that, “It is Shoooowtimeeeee in Billings!” the field of talented drivers aligned two-by-two. Shane Stewart would jump into the early lead with Jason giving chase in the Fischer Body Shop/Pro Powder Coating #41 Maxim. The track was racy and the bottom was coming in. Fourth starting Daryn Pittman stole the lead on lap nine from Stewart. A few cautions regrouped the field as Jason dropped back a few spots on the restart and was running in sixth. He would regain a position in the top five and when Pittman took the checkered flag over Stewart, Schatz and Sweet, Jason would bring home a fifth-place finish for the JJR Marshall Racing team. A good run for the forty-one as the team will head to the state of Washington for racing action at Skagit Speedway where they do Fun at Full Throttle to kick off the Labor Day weekend!
