HUSTLING TO HONOR A LEGEND: CARSON MACEDO AND THE WORLD OF OUTLAWS STARS INVADE ANGELL PARK SPEEDWAY TO COMPETE IN THE TED JOHNSON MEMORIAL RACE WITH THE FORTY-ONE FINISHING AT THE TOP OF THE PODIUM WITH WIN NUMBER FOUR

SUN PRAIRIE, WISCONSIN (June 7, 2026) – The capstone of the busy weekend of World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series racing was set to wrap up on Sunday night at Fireman’s Angell Park Speedway with an incredibly special race – the Ted Johnson Memorial Race presented by SLS Promotions. This is one of those races that for most drivers it really does not matter what it pays. It is all about putting your name on the winner’s list for the race that honors the Wisconsin born visionary who started the World of Outlaws back in 1978 as a dream and goal to enhance the sport of sprint car racing. His story unfolded as he had envisioned and has become the preeminent series in the sport today. After wheeling and dealing all race passing eleven cars from behind the wheel of the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 at the Plymouth Dirt Track, Carson cruised home to a fifth place run in the Cheese Town Showdown last night. Not satisfied whatsoever, he was ready to climb back into his high speed Maxim Racing office and get back to work at Fireman’s Angell Park Speedway’s 1/3-mile Badger State bullring with its’ iconic red and white striped painted walls. The pit area was bustling and filled with 27 winged racing teams along with the Badger Midgets both looking to put on an exciting show to end the weekend of entertainment. It was race day number two in Wisconsin at Fireman’s Angell Park Speedway!

Each driver got a few laps around Angell Park Speedway in Race//Ready Hot Laps before officially going on the clock for time trials in Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying. Some fans like time trials as part of the show, while others despise them and categorize them as boring. But they are an important part of the format each night and allow drivers and teams to earn their starting positions in the Heat races through their individual performance. Where each speedster goes out in the time trial order is determined by random draw at the beginning of the night. On this night, Carson would be the eighth driver on the track for a little Sunday Funday speed action after pulling the ‘19’ pill in the draw. After David Gravel completed his laps, Carson lowered his right K1 Race Gear boot urging the Tarlton and Son/Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/Vortex Racing Products #41 to get into high speed motion. In response Carson circled Angell Park Speedway the first time in 12.043 seconds and followed it up the next time around in 12.089 seconds. When time trials concluded, the faster of his two qualifying attempts ended up 11th quick overall with Bill Balog securing the Simpson Quick Time Award spinning around the bullring in 11.733 seconds.

Set to start from the fourth position in The Greatest Store on Dirt Heat Race #2, Carson pulled the Durst Inc./Maxim Racing/Team Jack Foundation #41 to the outside of row two above Kasey Jedrzejek #6. A field filled with high performing talent, the starters on the front row were none other than David Gravel #2 and Spencer Bayston #17. Cole Macedo in the TwoC Racing #2C and Logan Julien #85J tucked in behind Carson and Kasey in row three with Joel Myers Jr. #19 and Austin Hartmann #87A rolling together in row four. The fifth and final row featured only Jordan Paulsen #4. There were six transfer spots up for grabs and nine motivated drivers ready to get to work with 10 laps to do their business.

When the yellow lights turned off the level of focus inside the cockpit maxed out as they rolled towards the chalk stripe laid down across turn four. When polesitter David Gravel arrived at the white line, the race was on as the field dragged raced down the front straightaway and into turn one. Bayston vaulted the NOS Energy Drink #17 into the lead as Gravel tripped over the cushion opening a lane underneath him for Carson to slip by into the runner-up position. Carson was running in the second spot at the end of lap one looking to keep pace with Spencer Bayston for the lead as Gravel and Jedrzejek held down positions three and four, respectively.

The laps began to dwindle as the flagman displayed the white flag. One more time around Angell Park for these racers. Spencer Bayston raced to the win with Carson crossing the finish line 1.224 seconds behind in the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41. Those two drivers earned spots in the Toyota Dash with David Gravel, Kasey Jedrzejek, Cole Macedo, and Logan Julien #85J securing the final four transfer positions into the A-Main of the second qualifying race.

Race officials held the Dash draw in the pit area to keep the show moving along with rain all around the area to the south and west of the track, but not a drop in sight at Angell Park thank goodness. The starting lineup was set by random draw for the 8-lap Toyota Dash with Garet Williamson #23 and Sheldon Haudenschild #18 on the front row. Bill Balog would start inside the Scott Boyd Family/Sander Engineering/FK Rod Ends #41 Maxim in row two with Ashton Torgerson #51 and Spencer Bayston #17 in row three.

Garet Williamson stomped on the loud pedal when the green lights illuminated followed by Balog and Haudenschild early in the race for their starting spots in the A-Main. Carson got up into the loose stuff entering turn one and fell back to fifth behind Torgerson with Bayston in sixth. The race went green to checkers with the running order staying the same with Williamson taking the win followed by Balog, Haudenschild, Torgerson, and Macedo with Bayston coming home sixth.

The 24 cars started to roll out onto the track to stage for the start of the 40-lap Ted Johnson Memorial Race feature at the historic Fireman’s Angell Park Speedway where Ted Johnson grew up watching midgets and racing earlier in his life. The drivers at the front of the field earned their starting positions based on where they finished the Toyota Dash. That put Garet Williamson #23 and Bill Balog #17B in the front row with Sheldon Haudenschild #18 and Ashton Torgerson #51 directly behind them in row two. Row three showcased two talented racers with Carson Macedo to the inside of Spencer Bayston.

Carson climbed into his office and pulled his Crow Enterprizes safety belts tight. He was ready to compete and would start from the fifth position in row three aboard the Albaugh – Your Alternative/All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Sam I Am #41 Maxim. Spencer Bayston pulled the NOS Energy Drink #17 to his outside before the cars flared out in the famous four-wide salute to the fans.

Packed with eager fans the grandstands the excitement was palpable in Wisconsin. The field was set with a whole lot of talented speed athletes. The drivers were prepared to put on a high quality speed show. It was now time for the race to begin off run four. The green light illuminated, and the calmness of the night was replaced with high speed calamity. The action came to an abrupt stop when Donny Schatz in the CJB #15 got up and over Kelby Watt #1K entering turn one causing a series of flips after he contacted the outside wall hard. Donny was ok, but his car did not fare as well, and he was done for the night.

They would try to get this thing started again with Garet Williamson powering into the lead on the first lap with everyone behind him trying to keep pace. Bill Balog hustled in second place with Carson Macedo making some early moves to advance into the show position followed by Sheldon Haudenschild and Spencer Bayston.

On lap 2, the first of many cautions came out for Chris Windom #7s and Kasey Jedrzejek #6 who got together exiting turn four. Williamson was still at the front of the field with Balog running second. The ‘41’ of Carson Macedo displayed in third on the scoreboard.

When the drivers in the field went back to green flag racing it was short lived as the yellow lights were quickly turned back on as there was chaos and cars all over the place on the front straightaway bringing out another caution flag.

The green flag was back out again, and this time Williamson could show off his speed again with Balog and Macedo in tow. They circled Angell Park Speedway two more times before the third caution of the night came out for Skylar Gee #16c who slowed to a stop on the frontstretch.

The restart order with 36 laps to go would be Williamson, Balog, Macedo, Haudenschild, and Bayston. The driver of the Fischer Motorsports #23 maintained the lead with Carson ducking under Balog to take over the runner-up position in turn one. They were able to get two more laps in the books before Skylar Gee #16c slowed again and Joe B. Miller sat stranded out of turn two with a collapsed front end.

When the engines roared again Williamson controlled the covered first spot in the running order with Carson keeping him within striking distance. They were able to put together a series of green flag laps, so the leaders began to catch the rear of the field. The track surface was narrow so passing the slower cars could prove to be a challenge. Garet Williamson tough was doing a masterful job extending his lead over Carson to over 2.5 seconds with just over a dozen laps to go in the race.

On lap 28, the caution flag flew again as Cole Macedo’s #2c sat with a broken front end after he got up over the cushion and contacted Bill Balog off turn two after passing “The North Pole Nightmare” for the fourth spot in the running order. His impressive run forward ended as the remaining drivers in the field realigned for the restart.

It would be a double file restart with Williamson and Macedo on the front row. The green flag waved. Carson had speed and hugged the bottom entering turn one. He was underneath Williamson and moved in front of him to take the lead off turn two. A couple laps later Sheldon Haudenschild moved by the CSG Group #23 of Williamson to take over the runner-up position.

Now Carson began to build his lead to over 2.5 seconds with Haudenschild, Williamson, Balog, and Schuchart all racing through the leader’s dirty air. The Lemoore, California native seemed to be in cruise control with the end of the race approaching quickly, but the final race interruption of the night flew on lap 35 for Garet Williamson who appeared to break something in the right front sending him directly into the outside wall in turn four ending with the car rolling on its side bringing out the red flag.

It would be a dash to the finish with 11 cars remaining on the lead lap. The restart would be crucial. The yellow lights turned off around the track and the green flag was back out. Carson got back up to speed and led the remaining distance to collect his fourth WoO win of the season with Sheldon Haudenschild coming home second and Bill Balog rounding out the podium. Logan Schuchart raced home fourth with Buddy Kofoid completing the top five.

When he took off his Bell Helmet in victory lane he was smiling from ear-to-ear as Wes Irwin put the Hoosier neck band and NOS Energy Drink had on the winner of the Ted Johnson Memorial Race. After climbing up on the tail tank to celebrate with the checkered flag under the falling confetti, Carson paused and shared his gratitude with his team. Acknowledging their work Carson stated, “A huge thank you and hats off to Philip Dietz, Robby McQuinn, and Adam Zimmerman. They did a great job!” He continued, “We made a lot of adjustments all night long. I felt like every time I came in; I had a lot of feedback. Obviously, Phil made a lot of changes and Adam and Robby worked their tails off doing it. Just a big thank you to them.” Carson then reflected, “The track changed a lot. I was super nervous at the beginning of the race before it started. I thought it was going to blow all the way off and there wasn’t going to be much left. But there was just enough meat where I could kind of connect the grip and make a lot of speed in this Albaugh 41 car.” A great night and another good run for Macedo and the forty-one as they locked down their fourth win of the 2026 season!

With the Ted Johnson Memorial Race in the books a look ahead on the race schedule revealed the next stop for the team was on Tuesday night in the High Limit Racing Series Roto Rooter Midweek Series race at Eagle Raceway at the $55,555-to-Win Eagle Nationals. They would then head to Knoxville Raceway next weekend on Friday and Saturday night for the two-day Premier Chevy Dealers Clash.
