MEETING AT THE PAS: IN THEIR FIRST RETURN VISIT TO PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY SINCE 2022, CARSON MACEDO MAKES THE MOST OF HIS TIME WHEELING THE ALBAUGH – YOUR ALTERNATIVE #41 BEFORE HIS NIGHT GOES UP IN SMOKE AT THE SOCAL SHOWDOWN
PERRIS, CALIFORNIA (September 13, 2025) – The West Coast swing for the World of Outlaws continued Saturday night in Southern California for Carson Macedo, the JJR #41 team, and their fellow competitors. After racing to a third place finish Friday night at the Nashville West Showdown at Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway behind Michael “Buddy” Kofoid and Sheldon Haudenschild, the team climbed in their Border International to start trucking MVT style four hours south for the SoCal Showdown at Perris Auto Speedway (PAS) located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds which is the home of October’s Southern California Fair. The track is located approximately one hour North of San Diego off the Ramona Expressway. This return visit was the World of Outlaws first time back to the famous half-mile, semi-banked track since 2022. This place is steeped in dirt track racing history and is short track racing at its best. There were 25 race teams lined up throughout the pit area ready to take on Perris Auto Speedway!
The cars started to roll out for one of the four scheduled groups in WEDG High Performance Karts Hot Laps to check out the track and their initial setups for the night of racing before time trials began in Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying. The qualifying order was set, and the crews were busy finishing their work prior to time trials commencing. The driver of the Albaugh – Your Alternative green emblazoned entry lined up twenty second in the staging area. After pulling the “54” ball in the draw, Carson began focusing on making two good laps around PAS. The longstanding one lap record was established at Perris Auto Speedway by Danny Lasoski back on February 23, 2002, at 13.875 seconds. The last time the World of Outlaws were at Perris on March 29, 2022, Carson set quick time in the forty-one with a lap of 14.125 seconds. Carson waited patiently in the push off lane visioning out his two laps. When California regular Kaleb Montgomery #3 completed his time trials laps, it was now Carson’s turn to put his talents and skills to the test from the confines of his high-speed Maxim Racing office. The Lemoore, California born speedster flipped the shield down on his Shifty Illusions custom painted Bell Helmet as he focused on executing his speed strategy. The engine fired in the BR Motorsports/Vortex Racing Products/Bandy & Associates #41 as he pedaled down to get up to speed. Carson had his elbows up and ran an impressive first lap that timed in at 14.244 seconds to vault him to the top of the speed charts. He continued his pursuit for more speed hoping to improve his time during his second attempt. When Carson crossed the timing and scoring line for the last time in qualifying the numbers on the scoreboard displayed 14.256 seconds. His initial qualifying attempt was Carson’s fastest lap which was good enough to position the forty-one as the quickest driver of the night to earn his sixth Simpson Quick Time Award of the season and 51st of his career with the World of Outlaws.

The series’ timing and scoring officials tabulated and finalized the starting lineups for each of the three 8-lap Heat races. When they posted the lineups, by virtue of his quick time Carson would get the High Performance Lubricants/Sander Engineering/Prime Composite Innovations #41 Maxim started from the pole position on the grid in NOS Energy Drink Heat Race #1. Garet Williamson on the Fischer Motorsports #23 joined the driver of the forty-one on the front row with Kerry Madsen in the Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) #15s and Skylar Gee in the Warrior Building Development Excavating #99 following in row two. Pacing together in row three was Donny Schatz in the JVI Group #W with Paul Silva wrenching the car and Dominic Scelzi SE Inc. Truck Body Manufacturing #41s. Sheldon Haudenschild wheeling the NOS Energy Drink #17 and Conner Morrell in the Tub O’ Towels #28M tucked in behind from row four. Perris, California’s own Verne Sweeney #98 joined at the rear of the field in the ninth starting spot.
The engines fired as these high speed daredevils pulled into their starting positions to prepare for action. There were six transfer spots up for grabs with the top two finishers in each Heat race moving into the Toyota Dash. When the front row starters arrived in turn four, the rolled across the temporary chalk stripe spinning the Hoosier Racing Tires creating a dust cloud as the drivers stomped on the gas. Carson jumped into the lead down the front straightaway, but Garet Williamson peaked underneath him entering turn one. The driver of the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 exited turn two with the lead and led the opening lap followed by Williamson, Madsen, and Schatz all trying to keep pace in the early going.
Carson was in complete control from that point forward extending his lead through the middle stages of the qualifying race. The flagman showed the field the white flag. That meant they only had one more lap to put their final claim in for one of the transfer spots. Carson raced under the checkered flag first 1.250 seconds ahead of Garet Williamson who was followed by Kerry Madsen and Donny Schatz with Skylar Gee and Sheldon Haudenschild securing the final two transfer positions out of the first Heat race.
When all the numbers were drawn for the starting spots in the 6-lap Toyota Dash, the starting lineup would feature David Gravel in the Big Game Motorsports #2 and Bill Balog driving the Anderson’s Pure Maple Syrup #17B on the front row followed by Michael “Buddy” Kofoid in the HR Livestock/Mobil 1/Toyota #83 and D.J. Netto #88 in row two. Carson Macedo in the Albaugh – Your Alternative/High Performance Lubricants/Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions #41 Maxim and Garet Williamson #23 rolled beside each other in row three as they all were ready to go in the race that determines where they would start the feature in the first three rows. Gravel and Balog drag raced down the frontstretch with the driver of the Honest Abe Roofing/Anderson’s Pure Maple Syrup #17B taking the lead off turn two. Garet Williamson got a good start and took the fifth spot away from Macedo on the opening lap. That was all the passing that would occur between the waving of the green flag and the drop of the checkered flag. Bill Balog raced to the win over David Gravel with Kofoid and Netto right behind. Williamson came home fifth with Carson rounding out the finishing order in sixth.

The twenty four car field was now locked and loaded for the 30-lap World of Outlaws SoCal Showdown A-Main. Bill Balog #17B lined up in the pole position and would lead the field to the green flag along with David Gravel #2. They earned those coveted spots after finishing first and second in the Toyota Dash. Behind them in row two was Michael “Buddy” Kofoid and D.J. Netto #88 with Garet Williamson #23 and Carson Macedo #41 in row three.
The field moved by the covered frontstretch grandstands slowly one last time before accelerator off turn four the next time by the flagstand. The North Pole Nightmare, Bill Balog, blasted into the lead at the drop of the green flag with David Gravel trying his best to stay close early.
Carson moved the Albaugh – Your Alternative/FK Shocks/ISC Racers Tape #41 Maxim into the fifth position at the drop of the green flag. He had the black and green machine moving around the PAS with his sights set on the tail tank of fourth running Buddy Kofoid who was in the hunt for the show position with D.J. Netto.
On lap 3, Kofoid moved by Netto with the #88 becoming the new next target for Carson if he wanted to advance. He was hard at work around this fast racetrack, but everyone at the front of the pack had speed. The leader though was ultra quick racing out in clean air all by himself. He just kept digging lap after lap putting more distance between himself and everyone else.
By the halfway point of the race, Balog had built an over two second lead and was digging for more. He led David Gravel, Buddy Kofoid, D.J. Netto, and Carson Macedo. Carson continued to fight valiantly with his fellow Central Valley racers, but the driver from Hanford was not about to surrender the fourth position to the driver from Lemoore.
On lap 18, Carson’s strong night at Perris Auto Speedway got deflated when his right rear was flat forcing him to the Federated Car Care Work Zone. There was no guaranteed time, so time and execution were paramount. The team, with the assistance of other teams, got the job done and he rejoined the back of the field.
Bill Balog brought the field back up to speed and immediately motored away in the Anderson’s Pure Maple Syrup #17B with Kofoid moving by Gravel as both kept digging trying to keep up with the leader. Carson was focused on trying to salvage the best finish racing further back in the pack in the sixteenth position.
He completed two more laps before more trouble found the forty-one. This time, on lap 20, it was much more severe as the car was leaving a trail of heavy smoke down the front straightaway. Carson’s strong showing after setting quick time and winning his Heat race was over. He was recognized with the Smith Titanium Brake System Brake of the Race recipient.
There were still ten laps of racing let though, and the remaining competitors got back up to speed all in a high speed chase trying to catch Bill Balog. David Gravel continued his relentless pursuit and got close to the leader, but to no avail as he could not pass the fast driver out of Alaska. Bill Balog took the win in the Outlaws return to the PAS. Gravel came home second followed by Buddy Kofoid with Garet Williamson and D.J. Netto rounding out the top five.
