CAJUN SENSATION RUNS THE #40R IN HONOR OF SHORTY CHAMBLISS AGAIN AT LEXINGTON 104 SPEEDWAY AND FINISHES 15TH AFTER EXPERIENCING ENGINE FAILURE WHILE RUNNING SECOND

LEXINGTON, TENNESSEE (August 22, 2014) – After cleaning all the mud off the car after racing at “The Ditch” on Thursday night, Jason and the Stenhouse Jr. Racing team made the 120-mile jaunt east across I-40 to Lexington, Tennessee to race for second night in the Mid-South region at Lexington 104 Speedway with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. There were 19 cars in the pit area and sitting behind the team’s black Volvo truck and transporter was the well-prepared Waco Metal/Tony Lama Boots Maxim. For the second night in a row, the car was emblazoned with the #40R on the wing panels in honor of a fallen hero and friend forever, Shorty “The Short Man” Chambliss, the man who was instrumental in getting Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s sprint car and racing career started when he was only 14 years old.

After the hot laps and the opening ceremonies were completed, Jason buckled his Crow Enterprizes safety belts and slid on his Oakley racing gloves preparing for battle around the 3/8th mile semi-banked oval in the third heat race. Starting on the outside of the front row, the Cajun Sensation mashed the accelerator at the start and led the field into turn one ahead of pole sitter Tony Bruce, Jr. He kept his right foot planted in the pedal as he made quick work around the tight oval. When the flag man gave the one-to-go signal, the Rocky Mount, Missouri resident was not about to surrender the lead as he took the heat race win and advance directly to the 30-lap feature event.

When the feature lineup was set, Jason would find himself starting on the inside of row two behind the front row tandem of Tony Bruce, Jr. and Tennessee native Jeff Swindell. Back-to-back ASCS National Tour winner, Sam Hafertepe, Jr., occupied the outside of row two so hammer down was going to be the only way to go when the green lights illuminated and the flagman gave them the go ahead to unleash the horses under their hoods. Jason did just that as he charged down the front straightaway and entered turn one. A caution on the initial start for Seth Bergman regrouped the field and then another caution flag flew for a false start before the field got up to speed under green on the restart. When they received the okay to start again it was definitely go time. Jason was on the gas in the Waco Metal/Fuel Safe Racing Cells Maxim, moving into the runner-up spot, but on lap eight his run came to an end as he rolled to a stop and got out of the car quickly with reported engine failure. His night and good run were over early and he was scored with an 15th place finish. Not the night or results the Stenhouse Jr. Racing team was looking for, but they will regroup and get back after it at the Jackson Nationals next weekend.
