“SHOW ME” THE CHECKERS: RACING RESUMES WITH UNBELIEVABLE BULLRING ACTION IN MISSOURI AT I-55 FEDERATED AUTO PARTS RACEWAY PARK IN THE SPRING CLASSIC OPENER WITH MACEDO COMING OUT ON TOP
PEVELY, MISSOURI (April 11, 2025) – Carson Macedo and the Jason Johnson Racing (JJR) team were focused and ready to go racing again as they had the opportunity to compete close to home in the “Show Me” state of Missouri this weekend at the two-day Spring Classic at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park. After rain washed out the previous weekend of action, Carson and the other World of Outlaws teams had an extra week to relax away from the track before heading to I-55. This impressive bullring is one of the best facilities in the country. Period. It always delivers great action to entertain the fans in the stands and for those tuning in on DIRTVision. With grey clouds lingering overhead, the fans in attendance were milling around throughout Merchandise Alley located outside turn four spending their hard-earned money on their favorite driver’s apparel. As the teams rolled their speed chariots out of the trailers in the pit area for the night of racing, the pits were absolutely packed and buzzing with activity and excitement. There was an incredible field of 62 race teams at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park ready to let it all hang out competing for the win on the opening night of the Spring Classic.
With the pit area overflowing with talent and determination, each driver would get a chance to race against the stopwatch in Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying. By the luck of the draw in the Eloy Gutierrez Pill Draw, Carson Macedo would be the 14th driver out on the track in Flight 1 for his two qualifying laps in time trials. Decked out in his Albaugh – Your Alternative green K1 Race Gear driver’s suit, Carson climbed into the cockpit of the Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/High Performance Lubricants/FK Rod Ends #41. He waited patiently in the staging lane with his speed strategy streaming through his head. When Spencer Bayston took the checkers, the Kistler Racing Engines power under the Prime Composite Innovations carbon fiber hood of the forty-one came to life. The Californian dropped his right foot on the loud pedal with his car taking off like a high-speed roller coaster. He whizzed by the waving green flag and meticulously worked his lines on the banked turns hoping he chose correctly to minimize his time circling I-55. Carson completed his first timed lap in 10.460 seconds, which jumped him to the top of the speed charts. He continued to move and groove as he carried the speed and momentum into turn one and quickly exited turn two. With a full head of steam, he trucked MVT style down the back straightaway. Carson raced off turn four and crossed the finish line to conclude lap two with an even better lap at 10.440 seconds. Carson’s best lap was the last one, which ended the night first overall in time trials in Flight 1. He had to wait to see if his time would be the quickest overall during Flight 2 where David Gravel turned his best lap in 10.594 seconds. When time trials were completed, Carson earned his first Simpson Quick Time Award of the 2025 season, and 46th of his WoO career, as he was the fastest driver of the night at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park with a lap of 10.440 seconds.

Creating speed in time trials for these competitors sets them up for where they start in one of the four 10-lap Heat races. When scanning the Heat race lineups, Carson would get the Tarlton and Son/Schoenfeld Headers/Factory Kahne Shocks #41 Maxim going from the pole position n the front row of the first Heat race beside Giovanni Scelzi in the KCP Racing #18. There was a stout field of competitors behind them with Rees Moran #22M and Bill Balog #17B in row two, Landon Crawley #45X and Chris Windom #7S in row three, with Xavier Doney #74, Garet Williamson #23, Scotty Milan #97, and Howard Moore #40 lining up behind. Stacked with talent and fast cars, the drivers knew it was “elbows up” time in Pevely, Missouri.
The green flag was out when the front row starters peaked off turn four. The dust flew in the air from the chalk strip laid across turn four and the field of racers were off to the races. They were racing for one of the five transfer positions up for grabs in this qualifying race with Carson Macedo jumping out to the lead in the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 tracking ahead of Scelzi and Balog with one lap in the books. The Lemoore, California native was hammer down and building his lead over Giovanni Scelzi with each completed lap.
At the halfway point of the race, it was Carson Macedo, Giovanni Scelzi, and Bill Balog out front with Chris Windom and Rees Moran holding down the final two transfer positions. Carson continued to push the pace as he raced up to the back of the field late in the race. But the top five would not change as Carson secured the Heat race victory ahead of Giovanni Scelzi as those two earned spots in the Toyota Dash later in the evening. The final three transfer positions went to Bill Balog, sixth starting Chris Windom, and Rees Moran.
The field of eight drivers was set for the 8-lap Toyota Dash by random draw at the World of Outlaws Command Center. Pennsylvania Posse member, Danny Dietrich #48, would be on the pole with another Keystone State native, Logan Schuchart #1s, to his outside on the front row. Austin McCarl #88 was lined up on the inside of row two with Carson Macedo to his outside in the Scott Boyd Family/Durst/Sander Engineering #41 Maxim. David Gravel #2 and Giovanni Scelzi #18 paced in row three with Sheldon Haudenschild #17 and Cole Macedo #2C in row four. They were racing for their starting spot in the first four rows of the feature. Where they finish the Dash is where they would start the feature. The green flag waved to start the race as Logan Schuchart hustled his Federated Auto Parts #1s into the early lead ahead of Danny Dietrich as they were three wide entering turn one for the top spot. Carson quickly moved the JJR #41 into third with all-out chaos behind him. The field would settle in, but certainly not relax as the action continued. Logan Schuchart easily collected the Dash win crossing the finish line 4.387 seconds ahead of second place finishing Danny Dietrich. Carson brough the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 home third with his brother Cole Macedo finishing fourth in the TwoC Racing entry. Giovanni Scelzi came home fifth followed by Sheldon Haudenschild, Austin McCarl, and David Gravel who rounded out the finishing order of the Dash.

The action up to this point of the night was certainly mesmerizing, but the best was yet to come in the 40-lap finale on the opening night of the Spring Classic at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park. Logan Schuchart and Danny Dietrich would be on the front row for the A-Main event. Carson would get the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Greber Racing Components (GRC)/Boltz Family #41 Maxim entry started from the third position in row two alongside his younger brother Cole Macedo.
The field was set. The fans were ready. The green flag waved with Logan Schuchart driving the Shark Racing #1s into the lead directly ahead of Danny Dietrich and Carson Macedo. The early action was crazy and was only the beginning of a truly entertaining event.
On lap 3, eight starting David Gravel was up to sixth racing with Sheldon Haudenschild for a spot in the top five. There were wheelies happening as drivers dueled for race positions at speed. Carson was trading clean slide jobs with Danny Dietrich as the two talented wheelman were putting on a show.
The next time around, Carson made a slide job stick as he raced off turn two in control of the runner-up spot. He turned his attention to the leader, Logan Schuchart, who had built a nice lead but was approaching lap traffic.
With 8 laps in the books, Carson closed within three tenths of a second of the leader and was coming quick. Behind him there were some incredible battles for positions throughout the field. Two laps later, the caution flag flew for Conner Morrell #28M as he stalled entering the pit area giving both the drivers and fans a brief respite from the edge of your seat entertainment.
The restart order with 30 laps to go would be Logan Schuchart, Carson Macedo, Cole Macedo, David Gravel, Danny Dietrich, and Sheldon Haudenschild in the first three rows. The racers would get the green flag again with Schuchart maintaining the lead. David Gravel seized the moment and moved from fourth to second ahead of the Macedo brothers before the yellow flag was back out on lap 12 for Hunter Schuerenberg #55 who slowed on the front straightaway.
The drivers at the front of the pack would hit the speed button again with Gravel, Carson Macedo, and Cole Macedo chasing Schuchart who had a fast racecar. Carson was laser focused on the tail tank of the Big Game Motorsports #2. Macedo wanted that spot and made the race pass for position to take it on lap 15. He was again tasked with tracking down the driver of the Shark Racing #1s.
The running order of the top five at the halfway point of the race was Logan Schuchart with Carson Macedo trying to track him down from 1.138 seconds behind. David Gravel was in third followed by Cole Macedo and Giovanni Scelzi. There was still so much amazing action throughout the field it was creating challenges for the fans around what to watch.
On lap 26, the yellow flag was back out for Parker Price-Miller #71 who slowed on the inside of the track and was clipped entering the pit area by Zach Hampton #6 causing heavy wing damage. Logan Schuchart was still out front with Carson, Gravel, Cole, and Scelzi lurking behind.
The yellow lights dimmed, and the green ones illuminated with Carson Macedo slipping under Schuchart for the lead. It was all for naught though because the yellow flag was back out negating the pass as Danny Dietrich sat sideways off turn four. Logan Schuchart would get his position back and the next restart would be single file.
The field was back up to speed with Carson Macedo hungrier than before as he was keeping pace with the race leader. On lap 27, Carson drove the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 by the Shark Racing #1s to take command of the race with 13 laps to go. He had put in what seemed like a full day’s work already but would have to stay up on the wheel if he wanted to hold the checkered flag.
On lap 33, a race break was called when the red flag was thrown for Rees Moran #22M who got into the outside wall entering turn one flipping right in front of Carson as he led the pack. Kerry Madsen #55V also spun in the middle of the track at the end of the front straightaway with the leaders all narrowly threading the carnage and avoiding contact.
There were seven laps to go and a lot of action remaining. The green flag would come out as Carson Macedo dropped his right foot ahead of Schuchart, Gravel, Cole Macedo, and Sheldon Haudenschild. Donny Schatz had now entered the mix at the front of the pack from his 18th starting position. The ten-time champion was showing his prowess and skills as he maneuvered into the top five with five laps to go.
With two laps to go, Carson maintained the lead, but Logan Schuchart was coming hard as he put his right rear tire against the cushion and used it to his speed forward as he attempted to track down Carson to steal the race lead. With two laps to go, the yellow flag was back out. This time it was for fourth running Cole Macedo who got turned around by Bill Balog entering turn one racing for position.
There was a half mile of work left for Carson Macedo with Logan Schuchart and David Gravel licking their chops. The race for the $12,000 winners check was on with Carson brining the field back up to speed. He was on the gas with Logan keeping him with striking distance. Carson would not be denied as he raced to his second win of the 2025 season, and 49th World of Outlaws career win, as he crossed the finish line 0.356 seconds ahead of Logan Schuchart who came home second. David Gravel rounded out the podium with his third place run with Sheldon Haudenschild and Bill Balog rounding out the top five.

After crossing the scales and escorted back to victory lane by teammate Robby McQuinn on the four-wheeler, the jubilant race winner explained, “Wow! That was one of the funnest races I have run in a while.” The race winner continued, “The whole race was really good, A lot of slide jobs. A lot of moving around. Battling the #1s (Schuchart), the #2 (Gravel), the #2C (Cole Macedo), the #48 (Dietrich) in the beginning. I felt like I was in a battle the entire race. It was a lot of fun.” Turning his attention to his team he commented, “Hats off to Philip Dietz, What an incredible Albaugh #41 car tonight. It was incredible to drive. Robby McQuinn and Adam Zimmerman, they work really hard, and it fees good to reward them with a win.”
The driver also did an amazing job from his high-speed office. A great run for the forty-one!
The team will be back in action at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park on Saturday night for the finale of the Spring Classic. Do not miss it!
