CAJUN CRASHES OUT AT THE HIGHBANKS IN SALINA WHILE RACING FOR THE LEAD ABOARD THE WACO METAL/WILWOOD #41 MAXIM IN LUCAS OIL ASCS NATIONAL TOUR ACTION

SALINA, OKLAHOMA (August 16, 2014) – The Stenhouse Jr. Racing team made their way to Salina Highbanks Speedway for the inaugural Oklahoma Open Wheel Thunder Nationals as they got back to exciting racing action with the ASCS National Tour. There were 21 sprint cars ready to take to the 3/8th mile, high banked clay oval. Jason owns two career victories at Salina and was ready to go to work in the Waco Metal/CURB Records #41 Maxim as he had a Ford back under the hood.

There were three heat races set for the evening with Jason and the Waco Metal/Brown & Miller Racing Solutions (BMRS) machine were assigned to the fourth starting spot in third heat event. This qualifying event was stacked with drivers by the name of Jeff Swindell, Johnny Herrera, Brad Loyet and Dustin Morgan. When the green flag waved, Jason cut to the middle and made it three-wide for the runner up spot. It was the Ragin’ Cajun’s spot when they ran through turns one and two as the Eunice, Louisiana native quickly set his sights on tracking down race leader Dustin Morgan. He kept his right foot buried and all of the Ford ponies were in a full speed gallop as he went up and around Morgan for the lead and quickly distanced himself from the field. When the checkered flag waved over Jason he crossed under the checkers with over a two second advantage. His high speed efforts in his heat race netted him the FSR Radiator High Point Driver of the Night honors.

After the power came back on and the safety lights around the speedway illuminated, the racing action restarted and it was time for the 30-lap feature event at the fast and racy Salina Highbanks Speedway. A little rubber had been laid down throughout the night to make the racing surface perfect for a great race. Jason cruised out onto the speedway and lined up on the outside of row two in the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/MSD Performance Maxim. Front row starters Tony Bruce, Jr. and Mike Goodman brought the field around to the green flag and the ASCS engines roared down the front straightaway into turns one and two. The first two starts were called off when the caution flag flew. On the next restart, Mike Goodman jumped into the lead followed by Tony Bruce, Jr. and Jason in the show position. Jason moved into the second spot as he took the position and quickly set his sights on the race lead. Another caution flew, putting Jason right up on the rear nerf bar of Goodman’s #11AM machine. Goodman, Jason and Sam Hafertepe, Jr. were all fearlessly fighting for the top spot when another caution flew over the field on lap four. On the restart, Jason went low and Goodman went high as the two came together making contact sending Goodman flipping hard into the outside catch fence leaving Jason with severe damage and no brakes. Officials penalized the driver and forty one team one lap contending the JJR/Stenhouse Jr. Racing crew came out onto the track under closed red flag conditions to work on the car. Jason was unable to restart the race relegating him to a 20th place finish.
