MORE FUN IN THE FLORIDA SUN: CARSON MACEDO RIDES THE ALBAUGH – YOUR ALTERNATIVE #41 AROUND VOLUSIA SPEEDWAY PARK TO TAKE THE WIN IN THE FIRST RACE OF THE LOW-E INSULATION SPRING SHOWDOWN

BARBERVILLE, FLORIDA (March 5, 2023) – The heat was still emanating from the Schoenfeld Headers on the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 following the completion of hot laps as the teams in the infield pits prepared for the first night of action in the six race mini-series dubbed the Low-E Insulation Spring Showdown that was set to begin at Volusia Speedway Park and continue as the team traveled north to Pennsylvania over the next two weeks. Carson and the JJR #41 team were eager to go after a one month break as they were ready to get the wheels rolling again on the Tarlton and Son/Larry Davis Farms/All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads #41 Maxim in Florida. The fans were in the stands as they were in town for Bike Week and the pit area was home to 23 powerful sprint car teams ready to keep their momentum rolling forward at the fast half-mile oval.

When scanning the lineup order for Low-E Insulation Qualifying, the 41 would be the fourth driver out on the track for time trials. With two quick times to his name so far, one with the All Star Circuit of Champions and one with the World of Outlaws, the native of Lemoore, California was eager to get up to speed. When he received the go ahead signal from the track official his Kistler Racing Engines power plant fired and it was now time to create some speed. When he charged under the waving green flag the second hand on the stopwatch was in motion. Carson was busy wheeling and dealing from the comfort of his Fibreworks Composite seat with a Sharp Advantage custom fitted insert as he maneuvered around Volusia Speedway Park. The first circuit didn’t take long to complete, just 13.950 seconds, as Carson was looking to improve his time on his final lap. He kept his right foot planted as his Hoosier Racing Tires dug into the moist surface. When he took the checkered flag the time on the clock for the second lap read 13.873 seconds, which was better and for the moment positioned him at the top of the speed charts. The faster of his two laps ended the night fourth quick overall. Brian Brown ended the time trials session at the top of the two lap speed list with a fast lap of 13.652 seconds.

With the lineups for the three Case Engine Oil 8-lap heat races that were put together methodically based on the time trials results, Carson Macedo would be in the first and fastest heat race. He would get started aboard the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/Boltz Family/Smith Titanium #41 Maxim from the outside of the front row with quick timer Brian Brown sitting on the pole position. Four-time WoO Champion Brad Sweet and Sheldon Haudenschild paced from row two with Zeb Wise, Spencer Bayston, Ryan Harrison and Brock Zearfoss in the last two rows. They were side-by-side as they exited turn four with Macedo pounding the loud pedal to hustle into the top spot heading into turn one ahead of Brown. The Lemoore, California native was hammer down and making track and not looking back as he built his lead to over two seconds. Carson would lead from flag-to-flag as he raced to the heat race victory over Brian Brown, Sweet, Haudenschild, and Bayston with Wise collecting the last transfer position in the first heat race.

Earning a spot in the 6-lap Toyota Dash, Carson by the luck of the draw would get started from the third position in the starting order beside Brian Brown in row two. Giovanni Scelzi and Buddy Kofoid would lead the dash field from the front row with Kasey Kahne and David Gravel in row three. When they went green flag racing, Scelzi powered into the lead over Kofoid with David Gravel charging from his sixth starting position into the show position. Carson was running fourth aboard the Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/Meyers Constructors/Crow Enterprizes #41 Maxim as he was chasing the Big Game Motorsports #2. Scelzi and Kofoid checked out at the front of the field as Macedo was able to close the gap on Gravel slightly with each completed lap. Giovanni Scelzi would not be denied though as he took the win over Kofoid and Gravel with Macedo coming home fourth. Brian Brown brought the Casey’s General Stores #21 home fifth with Kasey Kahne securing the sixth position.

With all the qualifying in the books, the starting lineup was set for the opening 30-lap NOS Energy Drink Low-E Insulation Spring Showdown feature. Carson Macedo would get rocking and rolling in the Durst/Factory Kahne (FK) Shocks/Pro Powder Coating (PPC) #41 Maxim from the outside of row two with David Gravel to his inside. Giovanni Scelzi earned the opportunity to start from the pole position with Buddy Kofoid to make it an all-California front row. After the Whiskey Myers four-wide salute to the fans, the drivers realigned in their two-by-two starting order as they rolled patiently waiting for the green flag to drop. They exited the final turn and saw the green cloth waving as they filled the Florida air with the sweet sound of 410 racing engines. Scelzi drove into the lead with Kofoid right behind. Carson maneuvered the Albaugh #41 around the top and into the third position with Gravel close behind. The forty-one was fast and Macedo was having a blast wheeling it. He was in hot pursuit of the leaders on the narrow and lightning quick racing surface.

By lap 7, the drivers at the front of the field had reached those running at the back and began navigating traffic. Carson was doing a masterful job navigating the high speed traffic like a taxi driver in downtown New York City. He closed in on the rear nerf bar of second running Buddy Kofoid and made the pass for the runner-up position on lap 9. He wasn’t done yet though as he quickly closed in on the Scelzi and immediately started putting pressure on him for the lead. The racing action was tight as the leaders were racing at speed amongst the slower cars. On lap 10, Carson muscled the forty-one into the lead using the low side entering turn three to nose under Scelzi. When he exited turn four Carson took command of the lead to lead lap 10 in the Border International/Engler Machine & Tool/High Performance Lubricants #41. He was on a mission and by the midway point of the race he had been able to put a lap car between himself and second running Scelzi as the track continued to narrow.

On lap 23, the California speedster was able to aggressively maneuver by the slower cars of Robbie Price and Ryan Harrison to put some additional cars between himself and Scelzi. The laps were winding down and with three laps to go the yellow flag was displayed for Bill Rose who slowed to a stop. That would reshuffle the field and take all of the lap cars out between the leaders.

For the restart it would be Carson Macedo on the point with Giovanni Scelzi, Buddy Kofoid, David Gravel and Kasey Kahne right behind for the three lap dash to the finish. They would try to get the race restarted, but Scelzi and Kofoid made contact as they were coming up to speed out of turn four with both stopping on the racetrack. They heading to the work area with no time on the clock with only Scelzi able to rejoin the field. That moved David Gravel into the second spot with Kasey Kahne, Brian Brown and Logan Schuchart now in the mix.

When they exited turn four the next time the green flag was waving as the field sped past the orange pylon on the frontstretch and ripped it into turn one. It was Macedo over Gravel and Kahne with the Albaugh #41 showing the way. He had 1.5 miles between him and the winner’s check and was elbows up. Carson’s tenacity and desire would not be denied as he was the first driver to race under the checkered flag followed by David Gravel and Kasey Kahne with Logan Schuchart and Brian Brown rounding out the top five.

After a few fist pumps and some congratulatory hugs with his JJR crew, Carson headed to the stage to speak with Chase Raudman. It was Carson’s 29th career WoO victory in his young career and the smiling driver explained, “Hats off to my guys. They made that thing unbelievable to drive.” He continued, “It was incredible in traffic, and I think that’s what it was going to take to win tonight. I felt good enough to rotate and turn in traffic. It didn’t matter what was in front of you.” The talented driver had no time to celebrate though as the dash and makeup feature for the 52nd Annual DIRTcar Nationals from back on February 11 was next on the evening’s race agenda. A great run for the forty-one though to start the month of March in Florida!
