ROLLING UNDER THE PALM TREES: KICKING OFF THE SEASON IN THE SUNSHINE STATE, MACEDO WHEELS THE ALBAUGH – YOUR ALTERNATIVE #41 TO A FIFTH PLACE FINISH IN ASCoC COMPETITION AT DIRTCAR NATIONALS

BARBERVILLE, FLORIDA (February 7, 2023) – With 2022 season now fully in the rearview mirror and Carson Macedo back on the ground in the states after a successful Australian tour in Sean and Felicity Dyson’s – Dyson Motorsports #N99 racecar, it is time to kick off the 52nd Annual DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park with the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions (ASCoC) series. Philip Dietz, Clyde Knipp and Nate Repetz had the Jason Johnson Racing (JJR) #41 back in black as they unloaded their new paint scheme for the 2023 racing season on the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/Tarlton and Son #41. The sun was shining and the pit area was bustling with energy as the engines fired for the 35 competitive teams that were on hand to put on a show under the palm trees in Florida.

Carson Macedo would be the seventh car out in the last group, Group D, for time trials and was ready to put his Kistler Racing Engines power to the test against the clock. He climbed into the cockpit of his Maxim Chassis and buckled into his red Crow Enterprizes safety belts. He patiently waited for his turn and when his engine fired he got his elbows up as he raced under the waving green flag. Two laps. One goal. Right foot planted on the loud pedal. He made his way around the fast half-mile oval to complete his first lap charging under the waving white flag as the clock displayed 13.824 seconds for his first lap effort. The Lemoore, California showman kept digging hard on his last pass around the oval, this time turning in a better lap at 13.580 seconds. Carson’s qualifying effort to start the night in the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 was fastest in his qualifying group and fifth quick overall on the night.

By virtue of being quickest in his qualifying group, Carson would line the Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/Engler Machine & Tool/Boltz Family #41 Maxim up on the outside of Pennsylvanian Danny Dietrich in row two in the fourth 8-lap heat race. Donny Schatz and Tyler Courtney would pace the field from the front row with Justin Peck and Kraig Kinser in row three and Scotty Theil and Kevin Newton in row four. They rolled slowly side-by-side as they exited turn four and filled the air with the sweet sound of sprint cars. Tyler Courtney hustled his NOS Energy Drink #7BC into the lead ahead of Schatz and Macedo who took command of the show position ahead of Dietrich. Courtney and Schatz built up a sizable lead over Macedo who was digging in the third position. Courtney led from wire-to-wire to take the win with Schatz coming home second, Macedo third, Peck fourth, with Dietrich rounding out the top five in the fourth and final heat race.

Carson’s third place finish in his heat race combined with the fact that he was the fastest driver in his qualifying group advanced him into the 6-lap dash event. David Gravel and Tyler Courtney would start on the front row with Brad Sweet and Cory Eliason close behind in row two. Logan Schuchart sat on the inside of row three with Anthony Macri sharing the row with him. Carson Macedo lined up seventh aboard the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 with Spencer Bayston to his outside. When they exited turn four they saw the flagman waving the green flag as Gravel drove into the lead over Courtney. Carson wasted little time advancing forward as he moved into the sixth position and was looking for more as he was tussling with Eliason for the fifth spot through the middle stages of the race. Gravel was in command of the race when the field took the white flag indicating one lap to go, but the yellow came out for Anthony Macri who spun to stop. When they went back to green flag racing it was Gravel leading Courtney, Sweet, Schuchart, Eliason, and Macedo with Bayston and Macri right behind. Macedo wrestled the fifth spot from Eliason and Sweet made a tremendous last lap pass on Courtney to lock down the runner-up position behind Dash winner David Gravel.

When the checkered flag flew over the B-Main, they gave the competitors 12 minutes to prepare and lineup for the sprint car feature. The first eight starting spots for the 25-lap feature event were set based off the dash race finish putting David Gravel and Brad Sweet on the front row with Tyler Courtney and Logan Schuchart pacing behind in row two. Carson Macedo in the Border International/Durst Inc./Greber Racing Components #41 shared row three with Cory Eliason in the Indy Race Parts #71 with Spencer Bayston and Anthony Macri rounding the fourth row. It was time to compete for the $6,000 winner’s share of the purse at Volusia Speedway Park to start the 2023 season at the 52nd Annual DIRTcar Nationals.

The fans in the stands were on their feet as they 24-car field came down the frontstretch to take the green flag. Logan Schuchart made a bold move on the low side entering turn one on the opening lap to take the lead ahead of David Gravel and Brad Sweet. Carson would drop back to the sixth position behind Spencer Bayston when the first lap was completed. Gravel had speed and took the top spot back the next time around with Schuchart and Sweet giving chase. The first yellow flag flew on lap three for Hunter Schuerenburg who spun in turn one. When they got restarted it was short lived as the red flag was displayed this time for Cory Eliason who flipped over in turn two.

They were set again to restart with 22 laps to go as David Gravel brought the field back to the green flag in single file formation. He had the Big Game Motorsports #2 moving, but Logan Schuchart was staying right on his rear nerf bar. Carson Macedo was trucking Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT) style as he gained two spots in the running order using the low side in turn one to pass both Spencer Bayston and Tyler Courtney to move into fourth. David Gravel continued his battle with Schuchart, but Brad Sweet was on the prowl. He would make his way by the Shark Racing #1s before setting his sights on the #2 of Gravel. With 11 laps to go, Brad Sweet tracked down Gravel to make the pass for the lead. He would lead the remaining laps to collect the win. Logan Schuchart raced by David Gravel to finish second with David Gravel rounding out the podium and Spencer Bayston coming home fourth. Carson Macedo wheeled the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 to a fifth place finish to open the season at the 52nd Annual DIRTcar Nationals! A good run for the forty-one!
