ONE LAST PERFORMANCE: CLOSING THE CURTAIN AT CHARLOTTE WITH A FOURTH PLACE RUN FORWARD IN THE FINALE AT THE WORLD FINALS TO CAP OFF A STRONG SEASON FOR CARSON MACEDO AND THE JJR #41 TEAM

CONCORD, NORTH CAROLINA (November 5, 2022) – With 73 races behind them, Carson Macedo and the Jason Johnson Racing (JJR) #41 team were focused on completing the 2022 season at The Dirt Track of Charlotte with the same tenacity of purpose they began with back in February at Volusia Speedway Park. After finishing in second place on Wednesday night to earn 146 points followed by a ninth place finish on Friday night to earn an additional 132 points bring his preliminary night total to 278 (2nd overall), the team rolled the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 out of the trailer one last time as they prepared for the final night of racing action in the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series in 2022. While the point battle for the top slot was still in play between David Gravel and Brad Sweet to see who would be the champion, Carson had solidified his third place finish for the second year in a row aboard the JJR #41 in the season long point standings. There were 52 cars back at the track ready to race for the checkers at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

Prior to the evening events kicking off on Saturday, Jason Johnson Racing’s (JJR’s) own Clyde Knipp was honored with the 2022 Jason Johnson Sportsmanship of the Year Award by the World of Outlaws. A well-deserved honor to an individual who pushes himself and others each day to enjoy life and the process every day. Congratulations Clyde Knipp!

Using a special format for the Saturday portion of the World Finals that used each driver’s combined point total from Wednesday night and Friday night to set the heat race lineups positioned the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/FK Rod Ends/WELD Racing #41 on the pole for second of the four 8-lap heat races. He shared the row with Sheldon Haudenschild as the two talented chauffeurs paced ahead of Lance Dewease and Spencer Bayston in row two, Brian Brown and Jacob Allen in row three, Zeb Wise and Aaron Reutzel in row four, and Greg Wilson and Dylan Westbrook in row five. Carson rolled out onto the track with his Kistler Engines power ready to get to work as the field paced side-by-side waiting for the green flag to wave. When they hit the chalk stripe in turn four, Carson mashed the loud pedal and catapulted towards the waving green flag. This 4/10-mile track is fast and technical, so these athletes have to be on their game to get the most out of their cars racing at speed. He was the first car to exit turn two with Haudenschild close behind. The Californian led the hotshoe from Ohio on lap one and started to stretch his lead a little bit with each completed lap. With the lead, Carson started to do some homework as he was trying different lines to see ow the car would react. When the white flag waved he moved back to the top side and cruised to the win by a little over a half of a second ahead of Sheldon Haudenschild with Spencer Bayston coming home third ahead of Lance Dewease and Jacob Allen who locked down the final transfer position.

Earning a spot in the final 6-lap DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash of the season, Carson would start on the outside of row two with Brad Sweet to his inside. Cole Macedo and David Gravel were on the front row with Giovanni Scelzi and Rico Abreu in row three and Donny Schatz and Sheldon Haudenschild in row four. It did not take long for the chaos begin as on the opening lap Cole Macedo drove hard into turn three and slide up across the track in front of Carson Macedo and David Gravel. Cole flipped and Carson was collected along with Gravel who sustained front wing damage. David Gravel and Carson were able to make the necessary repairs in the work area to rejoin the back of the field for the restart. Brad Sweet moved to the pole position and charged into the lead when the field got back going with Giovanni Scelzi, Donny Schatz and Rico Abreu chasing the “Big Cat” for the lead. They would not get there as Sweet captured the dash victory and pole position for the feature ahead of Scelzi, Schatz and Abreu with David Gravel coming home fifth, Sheldon Haudenschild sixth, Carson Macedo seventh in the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT) #41 and Cole Macedo eighth. There was too much damage on the ALLY #55 ending the night for Cole Macedo and his team.

The Lemoore, California racer aboard the Tarlton and Son/Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/Durst Inc. #41 Maxim would start from the inside of row four beside Spencer Bayston for the 30-lap World Finals feature event on Saturday night. After the track crew reworked the track surface following the modified feature that was won Mat Williamson, the 410 competitor’s engines fired as they rolled around the racing surface and lined up in their starting positions. It was time to take the final green flag and race for 30 laps against some of the best sprint car drivers in the world. It would be Brad Sweet and Giovanni Scelzi leading the field to the green flag as Sweet was digging for the win and looking to lock down his fourth consecutive World of Outlaws championship title. The yellow lights stopped flickering and the green flag waved. Before the drivers could get going, the yellow lights were blinking again for Kasey Kahne and Brock Zearfoss spun in tandem in turn one. The field realigned for a complete restart with Brad Sweet jumping into the lead when they went back to green flag racing with Donny Schatz driving hard into the runner up position ahead of Scelzi. Carson was racing in the seventh position and looking to move forward. So was Donny Schatz who was keeping pace and just after lap 10 was completed moved by Sweet and into the lead at the head of the field. Carson was embroiled in a fierce battle for position and moved up to sixth on lap 14 and then picked up another position moving into the top five on lap 23. With one lap to go and Schatz leading the yellow was displayed for Cale Thomas who slowed to a stop in turn one after shredding his right rear tire. Donny Schatz was leading Sheldon Haudenschild and Giovanni Scelzi with Brad Sweet and Carson Macedo rounding out the top five. Under the yellow flag pace laps Carson Macedo’s right rear tire was losing air. It would be a green to checkered restart and Carson was going to give it everything he had to finish the race. When they went back to racing it was Schatz to the lead as Scelzi ducked under Haudenschild for the second position. Carson also was courageous as he motored by Sweet into the fourth position. Donny Schatz took the win over Scelzi and Haudenschild with Carson coming home fourth and Brad Sweet rounding out the top five and winning his fourth championship. It was one last good run for the Carson Macedo and the forty-one team to end the 2022 season!
