BALANCED IN BURLINGTON: CARSON MACEDO DRIVES THE TARLTON AND SON #41 MAXIM RACING MACHINE TO ANOTHER TOP FIVE FINISH IN WASHINGTON ON NIGHT ONE OF THE SAGE FRUIT SKAGIT NATIONALS

BURLINGTON, WASHINGTON (September 1, 2022) – When the checkered flag flew at Red River Valley Speedway over Carson Macedo and the JJR #41 team, who collected their tenth WoO win of the season on Saturday night in North Dakota, Philip Dietz along with Clyde Knipp, Nate Repetz and Carson Macedo had the hauler locked and loaded. The engine fired on their Border International and they were ready to truck across the country to the state of Washington. Last year when the WoO traveling tour of stars stopped at Skagit Speedway, Carson raced a terrific race and left on the last night with the Skagit Nationals champion’s trophy. The JJR #41 team was looking to have another good showing during the scheduled three-day Sage Fruit Skagit Nationals over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

After the long 24-hour road trip to the West Coast, the hauler exited Interstate 5 and arrived at Skagit Speedway as they pulled into their pit stall. After stretching their legs and arms, the crew put the back gate of the trailer down and rolled out the white, black and green Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 forty-one speed machine to prepare for some high speed action. Burlington is a small town that sits almost halfway between Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is home to just under 9,000 year-round residents, but is primarily known for its proximity to world-class downhill and cross country skiing havens as well as some of the hottest snowboarding venues in the United States. But when the traveling tour of WoO stars come to town they are the featured attraction. There were 31 potent sprint car teams registered to race for the winner’s check on the opening preliminary night of the Skagit Nationals on Thursday at this 3/10-mile bullring as the fans made their way into the grandstands to see the best in the business put on a show.

Carson climbed into the comfort of his Fibreworks Composites seat with a Sharp Advantage custom fitted insert as he readied for his two laps at speed in My Place Hotels Qualifying. The 2019 Kevin Gobrecht WoO Rookie of the Year was ready to roll in the Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/T-FAB Custom Metal Fabrication/Walker Performance Filtration #41 Maxim. David Gravel currently holds the track record at Skagit with a lap of 10.578 seconds. Carson would be the ninth driver out on the track. When his Kistler Engines/Engler Machine &Tool, Inc. power came to life, he lowered his right K1 Race Gear racing boot and set sail. He had his elbows up and was wheeling and dealing inside his high speed office with a view. He was negotiating at speed for hundredths of a second and when he rolled through the timing light the first time he got the clock down to 11.797 seconds. Not done, knowing he had to improve after stumbling a bit on his first attempt as he was trying to get the best out of his Maxim Racing machine, he stayed on the loud pedal. He was searching to find some more precious time. He found it as his second lap time was completed in a much better 11.398 seconds. The quicker of his two laps positioned him as the seventh fastest driver overall in time trials. Brad Sweet, the current WoO point leader, set the high mark with a lap of 11.222 seconds to get the night started.

With time trials in the books, the starting lineups for each of the four 10-lap heat races were posted as the crews and drivers prepared their entries for multi-car competition. The top five finishers would lock into the preliminary feature at the end of the night with the winner and runner-up securing a spot in the dash to determine where they would start in the first four rows of that feature. Carson would start from the outside of the front row in the third heat race with Logan Schuchart pacing from the pole position. Spencer Bayston and Washington native Trey Starks were in row two, Joel Myers and Logan Forler in row three with Jessie Attard and Malachi Gemmer in row four. At this point of the night the surface at Skagit was fast, but narrow and bottom dominant. The two young and talented drivers on the front row of heat three brought the starting field to the green with Logan Schuchart driving into the top spot as Carson Macedo ducked the Albaugh – Your Alternative/RaceDiecast.com/C&R Racing #41 Maxim to the bottom entering turn one. Spencer Bayston and Trey Starks were in an all-out war for the third spot with Starks eventually taking control of the position. Schuchart meanwhile was cruising and never looked back as he raced under the checkers ahead of Macedo to secure the heat race victory. Trey Starks came home third, Spencer Bayston was fourth with Logan Forler locking down the fifth and final transfer position out of the third heat race.

By virtue of his runner-up finish in heat three, Carson earned a spot in his 30th DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash. Where he would start would be by the luck of the draw. He would be the second-to-last driver to pull his number, so there would not be too many options available to him. When he walked up to talk with Hannah Rickards there was two numbers left – the four and the seven pill. The Lemoore, California native pulled the higher of the two numbers to position the Tarlton and Son/Boltz Family/Bandy & Associates #41 on the inside of row four beside Jacob Allen. Brad Sweet and Logan Schuchart were on the front row with Donny Schatz and David Gravel in row two. Row three was occupied by the Roth Motorsports teammates of James McFadden and Kerry Madsen. Six laps would be the distance with the finishing order setting the starting positions for these eight drivers in the feature. When the green flag waved, the six laps went by quickly with Brad Sweet jumping into the lead and fending off Logan Schuchart to take the win and earn the pole position in the feature. Donny Schatz came home third, David Gravel fourth with Kerry Madsen, James McFadden and Jacob Allen finishing in positions five through seven. Carson Macedo raced from the eighth and final position.

The field was set for the 30-lap opening feature in the Sage Fruit Skagit Nationals at Kevin Rudeen’s and Peter Murphy’s amazing racing facility. Philip and the JJR #41 crew finished up their part as Carson climbed into the cockpit of the Maxim Racing chassis. He would start eighth in the Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/Motor State Distributing/ISC Racers Tape #41 and had some work to do. The track surface had widened a bit and it was anticipated it would continue to do so throughout the race creating multiple passing lanes for the racers. Brad Sweet and Logan Schuchart brought the showcase of talent up to speed with Sweet leading Schuchart during the early stages of the race. Carson picked up two positions on the opening lap and was running in the sixth position behind the Big Game Motorsports #2 of David Gravel. The leaders caught the back of the field by lap 6 and were masterfully navigating the high speed maze. On lap 12, the first yellow flag of the feature flew for third running James McFadden who jumped Joel Myers’ right rear tire as he attempted to lap him entering turn one. The contact sent him into the wall resulting in too much damage to return to action. That move Carson into the top five for the restart behind Sweet, Schuchart, Schatz and Gravel. When they went back to green flag racing Sweet maintained his lead over Schuchart as they were able to get another 5 laps in before another yellow flag was displayed. The race stoppage this time was for Jesse Schlotfeldt’s #21s who got into the wall in turns 3 and 4 flattening his right rear tire. The top five remained the same and when the green lights came back on Carson drove under David Gravel for the fourth position. Meanwhile, Logan Schuchart was right there fighting to take the lead from Sweet. With 9 laps to go, he was successful moving the Shark Racing #1s to the top spot with Sweet, Schatz, Macedo and Gravel weaving through traffic trying to catch him. Logan Schuchart would not be denied as he secured his third win of the season racing across the finish line ahead of Brad Sweet and Donny Schatz. Carson Macedo did a good job to pick up four positions to finish fourth with David Gravel rounding out the top five. Another good run for the forty-one!

When the headers cooled off from Thursday’s preliminary action, the teams loaded up and turned their focus to the second preliminary night of action at Skagit Speedway on Friday night.
