WRENCHING AT THE GROVE: UNDER OPPRESSIVE HEAT, MACEDO GOES FOURTH QUICK IN TIME TRIALS, WINS HEAT RACE AND THEN WHEELS THE ALBAUGH #41 TO A SIXTH PLACE FINISH TO OPEN THE SUMMER NATIONALS

MECHANICSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA (June 22, 2022) – The World of Outlaws summer invasion of the Keystone State continued on Friday night under the sweltering sun, high humidity and temperatures in the mid-90s at Williams Grove Speedway following Wednesday night’s action at Port Royal Speedway that saw Carson Macedo drive the Albaugh #41 to an eighth place finish. The historic half-mile oval is situated in Mechanicsburg, a town appropriately named after a settlement of mechanics who made and repaired Conestoga wagons in the early 19th century. In this racing town amongst the rural Pennsylvania cornfields all of the mechanics are referred to as crew chiefs. Philip Dietz, along with the other mechanical leaders as well as each of the team’s crew members, were focused on refining their setups and trying to figure out how to be at their best so their driver could make the quickest journey around the heralded paper-clipped shaped, half-mile clay oval as they raced under the landmark blue pedestrian bridge on the backstretch. There were 36 teams lining the infield and backstretch pit areas ready to put on some high speed entertainment World of Outlaws style on the preliminary night of the Champion Racing Oil Summer Nationals.

Following hot laps, the teams and drivers get to display and showcase their speed in time trials throughout My Place Hotels Qualifying. With less than 38 entries for the night of action, the field would be times as one big group in qualifying. The racers would go out paired together when it was their turn to hit the track as both of the drivers would have two laps to race against the ticking stopwatch. Carson would be the fourth driver out on the track aboard the Tarlton and Son/Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/Winters Performance Products #41 Maxim along with Chase Dietz. He pulled on his K1 Race Gear safety gloves and sat patiently in the staging area along the front straightaway waiting for his turn to produce speed aboard the JJR #41. With a tap on the rear nerf bar from the push truck, his Kistler Engines power came alive as he mashed the power pedal. He was off! With all the horses running under the hood Carson raced down the frontstretch and under the waving green flag. No time for anything else, he hit his marks trying to beat the second hand of the stopwatch. When he raced under the waving white flag to complete lap one, the clock reflected 17.484 seconds. He kept his momentum moving in the right direction and the next time around scored his lap in 17.679 seconds. The better of his two laps ended the night fourth quick overall. James McFadden, the talented driver of the Roth Motorsports #83, established the quickest lap of the night at 17.407 seconds.

There were four 8-lap heat races on tap next for the field of competitors where the top five finishers in each race advance on to the feature. Philip Dietz, Nate Repetz, and Sean Dyson were hard at work getting the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Durst Inc./Buckwalter Trucking/ISC Racers Tape #41 Maxim ready for their driver to attack the historic half-mile. Carson would get started from the inside of row one in tandem with King Brent the 39th, Brent Marks. Dylan Norris and Daryn Pittman, racing the Heffner #27, sat in row two with Brock Zearfoss, Kraig Kinser, Chase Dietz, and Logan Schuchart pacing behind waiting for the green flag to wave. The Bell Racing athlete climbed into his speed office and clicked his steering wheel in place on the forty-one. It was time to get to work at Williams Grove! Carson Macedo and Brent Marks were side-by-side as they came to the green with Macedo inching ahead as they exited turn two. Before a complete lap could be completed the yellow came out for Brock Zearfoss as he slowed and came to a stop on the backstretch. When they tried it again, it was Carson drove the Albaugh #41 into the lead using the bottom side of the track. He led lap one over Marks, Norris, Pittman and Dietz. They stayed in that running order with Carson legging out his lead with each completed lap. On lap 5, Logan Schuchart moved into the fifth and final transfer position with the top four in the running order remaining unchanged. Carson darted across the finish line to win his 75th career World of Outlaws (WoO) heat race followed by Marks as Norris, Schuchart and Pittman secured the final transfer positions in this heat race.

With the program progressing, Carson headed to the front straightaway to meet with Hannah Rickards to test his luck of the draw. He would be the fourth driver to stick his hand in the oversized NOS Energy Drink can and when he removed his hand he held the one pill for the 6-lap DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash. He would start on the pole beside Anthony Macri with Lance Dewease and Brent Marks and row two. Brad Sweet and James McFadden was situated in row three with David Gravel and Donny Schatz in row four. When the green lights came on to start the race it was Macedo to the lead over Marks and Macri on lap one. The two Pennsylvania drivers passed the Lemoore, California chauffeur the next time around leaving him to deal with another strong Pennsylvania force in Lance Dewease. It was Marks, Macri, Macedo and Dewease at the front throughout the first four laps. Brad Sweet flexed his muscles on the next lap as he drove by Dewease into the fourth position. Brent Marks would take the win over Anthony Macri with Carson Macedo driving the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Tiger Towing/Indy Performance Composites (IPC) #41 to a third place finish. Brad Sweet protected the fourth position with Lance Dewease, David Gravel, Donny Schatz and James McFadden rounding out the finishing order.

With an added provisional starting position for Freddie Rahmer, the 25 car field was set for the opening night’s 25-lap feature of the Champion Racing Oil Summer Nationals at Williams Grove Speedway with the Lemoore, California native starting from the third position aboard the Liquid Trucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/Premium Coach Group #41 Maxim. It was all PA Posse front row with Brent Marks and Anthony Macri as Carson shared row two with current WoO point leader Brad Sweet. Lance Dewease and David Gravel were in row three with Donny Schatz, James McFadden, Jacob Allen, and Spencer Bayston completing the first five rows. After the traditional four-wide salute to the fans, Brent Marks accelerated off turn four and into the lead over Anthony Macri with Brad Sweet, Carson Macedo and Lance Dewease right behind. Brad Sweet was moving and used his momentum to pass Macri for the runner-up position. Carson was dueling with Anthony Macri for the show position with Lance Dewease lurking behind. Macro got up over the cushion with Carson almost making contact with him. Lance Dewease used the opportunity to pass both of them and move into the third position. Brent Marks was still leading Sweet on lap 17 when the yellow flag came out for Spencer Bayston who spun in turn one but kept going. It was Marks leading Sweet, Dewease, Macri, Macedo and Gravel. When they got going again it was Marks back to the lead spot with Dewease now pressuring Sweet for second. Dewease would get by and now set his sights on the race leader. David Gravel also worked his way by Carson to move into the top five with 7 laps to go. With 5 laps to go it was Dewease right there with Marks for the lead. The Fayetteville, Pennsylvania driver dove underneath Marks and into the race lead. Lance Dewease never looked back as he collected the preliminary night win in the Don Kreitz Jr. #69k over Brent Marks and Anthony Macri to complete the PA Posse sweep of the podium positions with Brad Sweet and David Gravel rounding out the top five. Carson worked hard the entire race to bring home a solid sixth place finish in the Albaugh #41 with Donny Schatz, Danny Dietrich, Kyle Larson and James McFadden rounding out the top ten. Another good run for Macedo and the forty-one!
