MANUEVERING THROUGH THE DUST: AN 11TH PLACE FINISH AT ATTICA RACEWAY PARK IN THE 34TH ANNUAL BRAD DOTY CLASSIC KICKS OFF A BUSY WEEK CHASING BEN FRANKLINS IN THE BUCKEYE STATE OF OHIO

ATTICA, OHIO (July 12, 2022) – After coming off their victory on Saturday night in the Larry Hillerud Memorial Badger 40 at Wilmot Raceway, Carson Macedo and the JJR #41 arrived in the Buckeye State with some confidence. The fabled “Month of Money” commences each summer in mid-July and formally kicks off with the prestigious Brad Doty Classic run Attica Raceway Park, which is located on the fairground property that pays $15,000-to-win. The 34th edition of the race for the well-known and popular former sprint car star Brad Doty not only draws a huge field of competitors, but also packs the stands with fans of the host and all of the drivers who invade with their eyes set on winning the prized trophy and winner’s check, not to mention adding their names to the winner’s list of the event. The pit area, which is located off turn three and four, was filled with 44 teams ready to battle at the demanding and entertaining bullring in Northern Ohio.

With the large field of cars, the field was split into two separate groups for My Place Hotels Qualifying. The chauffeur of the JJR #41 Maxim would be the 16th driver out on the track in Group B along with last week winner at Attica Raceway Park, Tanner Thorson. Carson buckled into his Fibreworks Composites seat and waited patiently to be pushed off to complete his two laps measured by time down to the thousandths of a second. When Brad Sweet and Brock Zearfoss took the checkers on their qualifying runs, the Kistler Engine power supply came to life under the hood of the forty-one and Carson was prepared to give it a workout. He drove the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Greber Racing Components (GRC)/Xtreme Body and Paint #41 under the waving green flag and was hustling to beat the seconds on the stopwatch when he slipped over the razor thin cushion in turn two. He continued on and exited turn four and shot through the timing stripe to stop the clock on lap one at 14.122 seconds. With his right foot dancing on the accelerator, he tapped his way methodically around the 1/3-mile high banked oval the next time around and this time delivered a much better lap in 13.169 seconds. The faster of his two laps positioned him seventh quick overall in Group B, with Kerry Madsen setting quick time overall out of Group A with a lap of 12.837 seconds.

When the heat race lineups were posted, Carson would get the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/High Performance Lubricants/KSE Racing Products #41 Maxim started from the outside of row two in the third of three 8-lap heat races. He would start alongside Trey Jacobs with Kyle Larson and Sheldon Haudenschild in the front row. Parker Price-Miller, Tyler Courtney, Tanner Thorson, Robbie Price, Cole Macedo, Marcus Dumesny, and DJ Foos rounded out the starting lineup. When the green lights illuminated it was Larson to the lead over Haudenschild as Carson drove the Albaugh #41 into the show position ahead of Jacobs. Jacobs would soon surrender that position to the hard charging Tyler Courtney who was coming after the forty-one. Kyle Larson would not be challenged or denied through the distance of the heat race to take the victory over Haudenschild and Macedo, with Tyler Courtney and Trey Jacobs securing the final two transfer positions to the feature event out of the heat race.

Missing out on an opportunity to compete in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash, Carson and the JJR crew would get to work preparing the Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/MSD Performance/Saldana Racing Products #41 Maxim for the 40-lap Brad Doty Classic Feature. The driver of the Albaugh #41 would get started from the tenth spot on the outside of row five with Donny Schatz to his inside. David Gravel and Brad Sweet shared the front row as they brought the field roaring towards the waving green flag. Brad Sweet took the lead with David Gravel and Kyle Larson right behind. Larson would move into the second position on lap three and start chasing down Sweet. Meanwhile, Carson was battling with Tyler Courtney and Logan Schuchart for a spot in the top ten. The driver of the forty-one was working the low side trying to clear a way forward. The action was slowed on lap 8 when the yellow flag was thrown for Tanner Thorson who sat sideways in turn two.  When they restarted, Sweet maintained the lead over Larson but the action was fast and furious. Carson got shuffled back to twelfth before another caution flag was thrown for Spencer Bayston who spun in turn four. The field was again lined up to restart but before they completed a lap another caution flag was thrown for Hunter Schuerenberg who also spun to a stop in turn four. This time it was a single file restart with 30 laps to go with Sweet still leading the field. Kerry Madsen and Sheldon Haudenschild were racing hard for position when they made contact exiting turn four sending the NOS Energy Drink #17 spinning but not coming to a stop. The yellow was thrown and he blended in directly behind the black tail tank of Carson Macedo for the next restart. That restart brought a change at the front of the pack as Kyle Larson did hos thing and drove around Sweet with a courageous move off turn two into clean air. Carson got up on the wheel and drove into the ninth position with the two NOS Energy Drink drivers, Tyler Courtney and Sheldon Haudenschild, as well as Logan Schuchart and Greg Wilson battling for the same turf. The action was tight at times, but always clean, with the Courtney’s #7 and Haudenschild’s #17 moving ahead of Macedo’s #41 in the running order. A little further front in the field, Donny Schatz was using the bottom to methodically move forward. He was fourth, then third, before eventually moving into second. The 10-time champion made his way up to Larson in the top spot as the two talented racers put on a show through the dust in the final 10 laps. Larson took the win over Schatz and Sweet, with Logan Schuchart coming home fifth and David Gravel rounding out the top five. Carson managed to salvage an 11th place finish as he pulled the forty-one back to the hauler in one piece following the checkered flags flying.
