WHEELING TO WIN AT WILMOT: IN DOMINATING FASHION, CARSON MACEDO ROARS BACK IN WISCONSIN TO CAPTURE THE VICTORY IN THE LARRY HILLERUD MEMORIAL BADGER 40 ABOARD THE ALBAUGH #41 MAXIM

WILMOT, WISCONSIN (July 9, 2022) – After Mother Nature reared her head again and forced 34 Raceway to postpone their event on Friday night, the JJR #41 sprint car team headed towards the western shore of Lake Michigan to Wilmot Raceway, located just inland from the town of Kenosha. This fast, technical and racy 1/3-mile oval is always a fun place to race and produces a lot of side-by-side bullring style action. With sunny blue skies finally overhead to greet them, the track crew was watering and preparing the track surface as the haulers started to arrive and roll through the pit gate. When all of the teams were situated at Wilmot there was a total of 31 race teams, including the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 entry, parked in the pit area ready to race in the Larry Hillerud Memorial Badger 40. A just honor for a really good person as the racing world recently lost Larry Hillerud who was a former racer and true ambassador of the sport of sprint car racing.

Following the completion of hot laps, the drivers lined up in the staging area to await their turn out on the track as they raced against the clock in My Place Hotels Qualifying. Carson Macedo would be the 23rd driver to hit the track in the Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/WELD Racing/Indy Performance Composites (IPC) #41. When Kris Spitz completed his two laps, as Jacob Allen couldn’t get his Shark Racing machine to fire, it was Carson’s turn on the track in the Albaugh #41. With his hands grasping the steering wheel he was relaxed and let his talents flow as he raced under the waving green flag. He hustled through the first set of turns and before you could blink an eye completed his first lap in 12.784 seconds. He kept his Hoosier Racing Tires digging the next time around driving under the checkered flag to complete lap two faster at 12.647 seconds. The better of his two circuits was fourth quick overall with Brad Sweet setting quick time of the night at 12.580 seconds.

The four 8-lap heat race lineups were posted by the World of Outlaws timing and scoring officials based on their best qualifying laps. That positioned Carson Macedo aboard the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/Border International/Engler Machine and Tool #41 Maxim on the pole in the fourth heat race. He would start alongside his friend and fierce competitor Spencer Bayston in the CJB #5 with Sheldon Haudenschild and Bill Rose in row two. Russell Borland and Jeremy Schultz were in row three as Kevin Hinich rounded out the starting grid. The field paced around the track side-by-side until they hit the chalk stripe in turn four. When they crossed the line, Macedo used his Kistler Engines power to drive into the lead when they arrived to turn one. He exited turn two with the lead over Bayston and continue to do what he does best – race fast – for the next 8 laps in the Albaugh #41. Philip, Clyde and Nate had the forty-one dialed in and Macedo was precise with his driving effort. Carson would cross under the waving checkered flags with a comfortable 2.786 second advantage over Bayston who came home second. The top two finishers were followed across the finish line by Sheldon Haudenschild and Bill Rose with Russell Borland hustling to gain the final transfer position and round out the top five.

Carson’s 12th heat race win of the season earned him an opportunity to compete in the 6-lap DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash to determine where he would start the 40 lap feature later in the evening. He headed over to the front straightaway to meet up with Hannah Rickards to pull his starting position pill out of the oversized NOS Energy Drink can. He would be the fourth driver to test his luck, and when it was his turn he pulled Jaxx Johnson’s favorite number – 5. Wisconsin racer Scotty Thiel and former NASCAR star Kasey Kahne would start on the front row. Spencer Bayston and James McFadden, looking good with his newly trimmed beard, would get going from row two. Carson would start the Tarlton and Son/Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/Boltz Family #41 Maxim from the inside of row three with Donny Schatz to his outside. Brad Sweet and Robbie Price, aboard Jason Sides’ #7s, were in row four. When they went green flag racing it was Thiel to the lead as Carson wheeled the Albaugh #41 from the fifth position. Thiel was in command in the #73 entry over McFadden early. Donny Schatz would work by Kahne on lap 2 to move into the third slot with Macedo running fifth ahead of Bayston. On lap 3, Bayston passed Macedo back coming off turn four to relegate the Lemoore, California chauffeur to sixth. Thiel led all the laps to take the win over McFadden and Schatz with Bayston coming home fourth. Macedo was able to work his way by Kasey Kahne on lap five to bring the JJR #41 home fifth with Brad Sweet, Kasey Kahne, and Robbie Price rounding out the finishing spots.

The field was set for the 40-lap Larry Hillerud Memorial Badger 40 feature event at Wilmot Raceway. The teams pushed the cars out onto the track pre-race to stage for the race as Carson Macedo was sitting on the inside of turn two in the Liquid Trucking/Durst Inc./ISC Racers Tape #41 Maxim prepared to get started. The engines fired around the racing venue and the field of competitors aligned in their starting positions for this 40 lap show in front of the largest crowd ever to see a World of Outlaws show at Wilmot Raceway as announced by Johnny Gibson. It was a packed house to see the best in the business race for the winner’s share of the purse. When the initial green flag waved it was short-lived as the yellow flag was thrown as outside front row starter James McFadden jumped too early and was penalized two positions. When they tried again it was also only momentary as this time the red flag flew for a multi-car incident on the backstretch that was triggered when Spencer Bayston made contact with Brad Sweet at the exit of turn two sending Robbie Price and Scott Biertzer flipping. Also involved were Blake Nimee and Noah Gass. All drivers were ok. Once the accident scene was all cleared, the starting order at the front was reshuffled with Carson moving the Albaugh #41 to the outside of row two beside James McFadden as they paced behind Scotty Thiel and Donny Schatz. When they green flag fell again it was Schatz to the lead over Thiel as Macedo moved into third. They got one lap in the books before another race stoppage was needed, this time for Logan Schuchart who bicycled his Shark Racing #1s in turn three and came to a stop at the top of turn four. Carson would restart third as Donny Schatz brought the field back up to speed. Donny Schatz would lead lap two as Carson Macedo drove into the runner-up position as he got underneath Theil for the position. They completed lap 2 and another caution flag flew for Jeremy Schultz who slowed on the frontstretch trying to get to the infield. The leader, Donny Schatz, would select the outside lane for the restart with Carson Macedo pulling the forty-one to the inside. The two talented drivers dragged raced down the front straightaway with Macedo staying side-by-side with the 10-time WoO champion. They exited turn two the same way and raced down the backstretch. Carson used his Kistler Engines power to gain the advantage and slid Schatz entering turn three to take the lead. Macedo was setting a torrid pace and before you knew it he was navigating traffic like it was rush hour in New York City and he was late for an appointment. He was doing a masterful job, but Schatz was not letting him out of his sight. Donny closed in as Carson was maneuvering through traffic. On lap 14, with Schatz right there coming down the front straightaway, Carson dove to the bottom in turn one making contact with the infield tire, but maintained his speed and the lead. With 21 laps to go, Carson Macedo started to dominate. He continued to showcase his driving abilities as he made his way through the field building an impressive lead over James McFadden and Donny Schatz who were swapping the second position in the running order. Carson Macedo raced to the dominating victory in the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 Maxim by 3.703 seconds over McFadden and Schatz with Brad Sweet and David Gravel rounding out the top five.

Collecting his seventh WoO win of the season, and 24th career WoO victory, the jubilant driver of the JJR #41 climbed out with a big smile as he conversed with Clyde Knipp. After celebrating amongst the falling confetti, the cool customer started by honoring Larry Hillerud, “He was an incredible man. He had these race tracks on point every time we rolled into town, and man he loved the sport so much. I hate that he’s not here. It’s sad to realize that, but it’s also an honor to win this race in his honor.” He then turned his attention to his speed partners at Jason Johnson Racing (JJR), “Philip Dietz, Clyde Knipp and Nate Repetz gave me probably my best car of the year tonight.” He continued, I felt like I could handle lap traffic anywhere from the top to the bottom, and never miss a beat. I hope we can keep clicking off these wins. I’m really confident right now and this is a good time to feel good with all the money on the line this month.” A great run for Macedo and the forty-one!

Carson Macedo and the JJR #41 team will now confidently head East to Ohio to kick off the “Month of Money” with five consecutive nights of racing starting with the 34th Annual Brad Doty Classic at Attica Raceway Park on Tuesday night followed by the Joker’s Wild, Historical Big One, Knight Before the Kings Royal and 39th Annual Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway.
