FIGURING OUT THE HIGH BANKS: CARSON MACEDO DRIVES THE LIQUID TRUCKING #41 MAXIM TO A TOP TEN FINISH IN THE OPENING PRELIMINARY NIGHT OF ACTION AT THE HUSET’S HIGH BANK NATIONALS

BRANDON, SOUTH DAKOTA (June 23, 2022) – On Wednesday night, Carson Macedo brought the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 Maxim across the finish line with a second place finish after racing hard for 30 laps around Huset’s Speedway in the World of Outlaws sanctioned event that was rescheduled from back on June 5th. The JJR team quickly flipped the page and turned their attention to the inaugural running of the three-day Huset’s High Bank Nationals. While $100,000 awaits the winner on Saturday night, the team needed to make sure they were focused and got off to a good start on the first preliminary night of action on Thursday as the event format uses accumulated points for time trails, heat races, and the feature for both preliminary nights of action. From a point perspective, the goal on each of the preliminary nights is to be in the top 20 in points to lock yourself into the feature. The ultimate goal though is to put together two stellar preliminary nights of performance to end up in the top four in points to lock-in your team into Saturday night’s King of the Hill race and high paying feature event. The opening night of the High Bank Nationals event drew 49 teams to Huset’s Speedway and the excitement in the air was matched only by the sunny skies on this beautiful day for racing in South Dakota.

With the qualifying order for all competitors in My Place Hotels Qualifying being set by the random pill draw for each of the two flights for time trials, Carson Macedo would be the 23rd driver out in Group A in the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Factory Kahne/Indy Performance Composites (IPC) #41 Maxim. He climbed into his office and pulled on his K1 Race Gear gloves as he was ready to grip it and rip it for two laps around this premier 3/8-mile, high-banked oval. He pushed up onto the track surface and dropped his right foot with authority. His Kistler Engines power plant responded and catapulted him towards the waving green flag. His Hoosier Racing Tires were digging as he was making tracks and not looking back. He tripped the clock after his first lap in 10.980 seconds and followed that up with a lap of 11.134 seconds the next time around. The quicker of Carson’s two trips around Huset’s Speedway was third quick overall in Group A. The fastest lap of the night went to Spencer Bayston who ran a 10.882 second lap. Carson efforts earned him 98 points for his time trial result to start the night.

With a six car inversion for the heat race lineups, unlike the normal WoO format, the fastest drivers in time trials would have some additional work to do to earn the most points in each of the six 10-lap heat races. The higher you finish, the more points you receive. The driver out of Lemoore, California would maneuver the Liquid Trucking/Durst Inc./Team Jack Foundation #41 Maxim into the sixth position with Parker Price-Miller to his left side in row three with Brendan Mullen and Cody Hansen following them in row four. Brian Brown and Jacob Allen were in row two with Brooke Tatnell and Paige Polyak pacing from the front row. It was time to go racing for some more points against a formidable field of competitors. The green lights illuminated and the engines roared. Carson drove the forty-one up on the outside trying to find some real estate to pass. Brooke Tatnell led the opening lap over Paige Polyak. With 4 laps in the books, Carson Macedo drove the Albaugh #41 to make the pass on Brian Brown to assume the fifth spot in the running order. It was Tatnell, Allen, Polyak and Price-Miller ahead of Macedo and Brown. With the white flag waving, Carson drove underneath Polyak for fourth. Tatnell took the win with Allen and Price-Miller following him as Carson brought the JJR #41 home fourth. His fourth place finish in the duel earned him an additional 89 points, which brought his cumulative total following the heat race and time trials to 187 points.

The 187 points that Carson earned throughout the night locked him into the 35-lap High Bank Nationals preliminary night’s feature. Carson would get started aboard the Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/KSE Racing Products/Xtreme Body and Paint #41 Maxim from the 11th starting position beside Mitchell Moles. Brock Zearfoss and Buddy Kofoid sat on the front row and would lead the field to green flag racing. Before a lap could be completed, the red flag was thrown for a multi-car incident on the exit of turn two. It involved Donny Schatz, Brad Sweet, Robbie Price, JJ Hickle, and Thomas Kennedy with Schatz and Kennedy getting upside down. Schatz and Sweet were able to make repairs in the work area and rejoined the field at the back for a complete restart. When they got back going, it was Zearfoss claiming the lead in the early laps before surrendering it to Kofoid on lap 4. Carson was running in the ninth position before gaining another spot on lap 14. He was running in the eighth position and battling for more as the field navigated traffic. At the front of the pack, Kofoid had some company as the hard-charging James McFadden was running in the second spot and pressuring him for the lead. McFadden caught him and was scored the leader on lap 20, but Buddy Kofoid drove back by to regain the lead. With 4 laps to go, Carson was still running in the eighth spot. But he lost two positions late to finish in the tenth position. Buddy Kofoid won the race as he beat James McFadden, Parker Price-Miller, and Brock Zearfoss to the finish line with Hunter Schuerenberg rounding out the top five. David Gravel came home sixth followed by Sheldon Haudenschild, Giovanni Scelzi, Logan Schuchart and Carson Macedo. After the checkered flag flew over the field, with his Schoenfeld Headers still cooling, Carson and the JJR #41 team earned another 223 points in the feature moving their cumulative point total to 410 points, which positioned him tenth overall after the first of two preliminary nights of racing.
