RACING FOR POSITION IN IOWA: CARSON AND THE JJR #41 TEAM OPEN THE BROWNELLS BIG GUN BASH AT KNOXVILLE RACEWAY WITH A RESPECTABLE FIFTH PLACE RUN ON THE OPENING NIGHT OF ACTION

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (June 10, 2022) – Oh what a beautiful sight to race fans eyes – the half mile oval carved out of the Central Iowa countryside in the small town of Knoxville. Knoxville Raceway is truly a masterpiece situated on the grounds of the Marion County Fairgrounds in Iowa. With the prestigious National Sprint Car Hall of Fame looking over turn two and down the backstretch some of the best whom have ever been associated with the sport are always watching over today’s racers. When the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink stars come to town they bring some additional electricity and excitement to the area to race against the track’s always potent regular competitors. The traveling stars of the series were in town this weekend for the two-day Brownells Big Gun Bash event that has become a popular weekend on the WoO schedule each year. The infield pit area was packed full with 52 teams pulled into their numbered pit stalls. It was time to go racing at The Sprint Car Capital of the World – Knoxville Raceway!  

When hot laps were completed, Philip Dietz and the JJR crew went to work making some minor adjustments to the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 in preparation for My Place Hotels Qualifying. Two cars would be on the track at the same time racing against the clock. Each driver is given two laps around the track with their best lap time representing them in the final time trial order. The mission is simple, but harder than it looks to the onlookers – the driver and team must get the most speed out of their car so they can record the lowest possible time on the stop watch. Carson would be the 20th driver out on the track in Group A aboard the Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/Wilwood Racing/Schoenfeld Headers #41 Maxim along with Roger Crockett. The Kistler Engines/All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Engler Machine & Tool power under the hood fired and Carson built up his speed as he raced around to the waving green flag to start the clock ticking on lap one.  The determined driver was smooth and measured as he stopped the clock at 16.656 seconds the first time around. Carson continued to execute his strategy the next time around trying to uncover a bit more speed trough precision. When he rolled through the timing light to complete lap two, his lap time was much better at 15.459 seconds. The faster of his two circuits positioned him fifth quick in Group A with Brent Marks out of Pennsylvania running the fastest lap in the group and overall at 15.210 seconds.

By virtue of his lap time, Carson would start on the inside of row two in the first and fastest heat race aboard the Albaugh #41. He would pull up beside Aaron Reutzel as the row two drivers paced behind Brent Marks and David Gravel. Riley Goodno and Roger Crockett were paired up in row three with Giovanni Scelzi, Justin Henderson, Tyler Drueke, and Nathan Mills aligned behind in successive rows. When the green lights came on it was Marks to the top spot over Gravel and Macedo. Carson was able to stay close to the back of the Big Game Motorsports #2 in the early going making one attempt at stealing the position to no avail. Brent Marks left no questions as he raced his way into the dash by taking the win over Gravel with Carson bringing the Tarlton and Son/Larry Davis Farms/Bandy & Associates #41 Maxim home third. Aaron Reutzel and Giovanni Scelzi secured the last two transfer positions to the feature out of the heat race.

Missing out on a spot in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash by one position, Carson and the JJR crew waited patiently for the money paying race later in the evening. Following the completion of the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown (LCS), the opening night’s 25-lap NOS Energy Drink Brownells Big Gun Bash feature lineup was set at Knoxville Raceway. Each driver earned their way into the purse paying race and had their eyes focused on getting to the checkered flag first. Carson would get started from the inside of row five beside Spencer Bayston. Brent Marks was on the pole position with Sheldon Haudenschild to his outside. Brian Brown and Brad Sweet shared row two with Logan Schuchart and Austin McCarl in row three. David Gravel and Matt Juhl made up row four. When the green flag waved it was Brent Marks continuing his dominant night as the drove into the lead. Carson wasted no time as he too was on the move in the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Fibreworks Composites/RaceDiecast.com #41 advancing forward into the sixth position. The Lemoore, California driver was up on the wheel and pressing Brad Sweet for the last spot in the top five. By lap two he would get by the NAPA Auto Parts #49 and hold down the fifth position. Sweet though would regain the spot with five laps in the books. It was all high speed action for the first 22 laps with a lot of action behind the leader between Brown, Schuchart and Haudenschild before the red flag was displayed for Austin McCarl who was upside down in turn two as J.J. Hickle was also involved. Brent Marks would lead Brown and Schuchart back to the green as Carson drove the forty-one back into the top five making the pass on Brad Sweet. Brent Marks completed his perfect night as he held off Logan Schuchart to collect his first ever win at the historic track with Brian Brown coming home third, Sheldon Haudenschild settling in for fourth, and Carson Macedo locking down a top five finish. Another good run for the forty-one!
