BATTLING AT ATOMIC: CARSON AND THE JJR TEAM KEEP FIGHTING FOR EVERY INCH OF REAL ESTATE AT ATOMIC SPEEDWAY TO EARN A 12TH PLACE FINISH TO START THE MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND OF RACING!

WAVERLY, OHIO (May 28, 2022) – The World of Outlaws and their traveling tour of speed superstars were back in Ohio on Saturday night at Atomic Raceway for the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Atomic Raceway, formerly known as KC Raceway, was built in 1953 and is located one hour south of Columbus near Chillicothe. It was the World of Outlaws first return to the rack since 2009. This 3/8-mile, high banked oval produces action that makes the trip worth it and keeps fans coming out to the track to see the best in the business wheel these 900 horsepower winged sprint cars. Fresh off celebrating another year around the sun this past Thursday, Carson Macedo met back up with his JJR team smiling and ready to get back to work aboard the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/Tarlton and Son #41 Maxim. There were 39 race teams registered to race at Atomic for the winner’s share of the purse and the championship points that go along with each driver’s finishing position in the feature.    

Carson would be the seventh driver out on the track for his two laps at speed in My Place Hotels Qualifying. The Bell Athlete climbed into his office and buckled in tightly to his Crow Enterprizes safety belts. The push truck tapped his rear nerf bar and his Kistler Engines power plant fired. He dropped his right foot on the accelerator and got the Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/Saldana Racing Products/Wilwood Racing #41 up to speed as he charged towards the waving green flag. The talented drivers make this part of the show look easy, but they are all right on the edge between sanity and insanity looking to lay down the best time. When he exited turn four he saw the white flag waving. The clock recorded his first time trial lap in 11.766 seconds. With the hammer down Carson kept chasing the second hand of the clock the next time around and lap two came in at 11.705 seconds. The better of his two laps was fifth quick overall out of Group A when qualifying was completed. Quick timer at Atomic on this night was Buffy Kofoid with a lap of 11.440 seconds.

The drivers were assigned their starting spot in the four 8-lap heat races based on their qualifying efforts. The qualifiers from Group A would be in the first two heat races, while the qualifiers from Group B would race in the last two heat races. Carson Macedo’s qualifying effort put him on the inside of row two in the second heat event beside Ryan Myers. Logan Schuchart and Kasey Kahne paced the field from the front row with Brock Zearfoss and Travis Philo is row three, Cale Stinson and Ryan Broughton in row four, while Hunter Lynch and Bryan Nuckles were supposed to start in row five but both scratched for the night. When the green lights came on Carson uncharacteristically got shuffled back in the early action to sixth aboard the Durst Inc./Boltz Family/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution #41 Maxim. The determined racer did not back down and when Ryan Myers got up over the edge of the track coming off turn two Macedo passed two cars to work his way back into the top four. Logan Schuchart was at the front dominating as he never was challenged taking the win by 1.883 seconds over Kasey Kahne with Brock Zearfoss coming home third. Carson had to settle for fourth in the Albaugh #41 with Travis Philo securing the fifth and final transfer position.

Missing out on a chance to race in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash, Carson and the JJR #41 team watched as the remaining races unfolded so they could prepare for the 30-lap NOS Energy Drink feature at Atomic Speedway. They would be starting deep in the field based on their finishing position in the heat race, so they had some work to do. When the 24 car field was set for the feature, the Lemoore, California racer aboard the Liquid Trucking/Border International/Tiger Towing #41 would start on the inside of row eight in the 15th starting spot. Native Ohio drivers Sheldon Haudenschild and Cole Duncan would lead the field to the green flag when the racing got up to speed. Haudenschild would take command of the top spot over Duncan during the opening laps. A caution flag on lap three due to dust and smoke from the fireworks slowed the field with Haudenschild leading Duncan, Schuchart, Allen and Sweet. Carson was running in the 15th position as he looked to drive forward. When they got back to racing, Haudenschild was all-out at the front again. They got four more laps in before another yellow flag was thrown, this time for a slowing Danny Smith on the track. Carson gained one position and was now running in the 14th position. The field got back going and Haudenschild would get in a tussle for the lead with the Shark Racing boys – Logan Schuchart and Jacob Allen. These young guns were putting on a show at Atomic Speedway. Allen would take the lead on lap 18 before Haudenschild would take it back on lap 21. All the while Carson was being opportunistic a little further back picking up a position here and a position there starting his march forward on lap 10. When Sheldon raced ahead of Schuchart and Allen across the line to take the checkers to collect his fourth win of the season, tying Carson at the top of the season win chart so far, Macedo brought the Albaugh #41 home with a 12th place finish.
