COMPLETELY FORWARD FOCUSED: AFTER A SLOWER START AT THE BEGINNING OF THE NIGHT, CARSON MACEDO DRIVES THE ALBAUGH #41 TO A 13TH PLACE FINISH AT BRIDGEPORT MOTORSPORTS PARK

SWEDESBORO, NEW JERSEY (May 17, 2022) – There is no looking back in racing. Carson Macedo and the JJR #41 team traveled to New Jersey on Tuesday without looking in the rearview mirror. They were completely forward focused on continuing to drive their speed and success formula this season, while producing some entertaining racing action in one of the three states they race in throughout the season that touches the Atlantic Ocean. Last season when the World of Outlaws visited this track Carson and the JJR #41 team set a new track record at the time and had a perfect night going before finishing second in the feature. They were looking to duplicate that kind of effort on this visit and were pumped up and ready to go. On Tuesday night, there were 33 teams that traveled to The Garden State to compete at Bridgeport Motorsports Park, affectionately referred to as the Kingdom of Speed, located in Logan Township in Gloucester County.

With wind and sun all day, the track surface was very different than last year as the competitors prepared for their two time trial laps. The Lemoore, California native would go out very late as he would be the 30th driver out on the track to take his timed laps in My Place Hotels Qualifying. He climbed into the cockpit of his Maxim Racing machine and slipped his hands in his K1 Race Gear safety gloves before pushing back from the trailer. He headed to the staging lane to await his turn to race against the clock in the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/Tiger Towing/ISC Racers Tape #41. Lap times were considerably off the normal times, and slowly depleting as each driver completed their laps, but when TJ Greve completed his two laps, the Kistler Engines/All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Engler Machine & Tool power combination fired and he rocketed towards the green flag. He was moving and grooving as he made his way around the progressively high-banked 3/8-mile dirt oval. When Carson raced across the start/finish line to complete the first lap the clock read 15.373 seconds. He stayed on the hammer looking to gain traction the next time around but turned in a slightly slower lap at 15.439 seconds. When the final competitor took the checkered flag to close out time trials, Carson’s best lap positioned him 18th quick overall on the speed charts with Sheldon Haudenschild setting quick time at 14.852 seconds.

The results from time trials were then used by the World of Outlaws Timing and Scoring officials to set the starting lineups for the four 8-lap heat races. Carson’s results aboard the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Motor State Distributing/Smith Titanium #41 Maxim position him in the second heat race where he would start on the inside of row three with Tyler Ross to his outside and Tim Shaffer and Alex Bright in the row behind them. Donny Schatz and Rico Abreu paced the field from the front row with Anthony Macri and Brad Sweet in row two. When they came to the chalk stripe it was Schatz to the lead over Abreu with Macedo using the extreme bottom lane to drive down the frontstretch. Entering turn one it was four wide racing with Abreu, Macri and Sweet for position. Macedo and Macri continued their torrid battle for track position in the ensuing laps with both drivers sending a rooster tail of dust and dirt over the wall through turns one and two. Schatz led the pack with Abreu and Sweet chasing as Macri and Macedo continued to dual throughout the first four laps. Each driver then settled into their positions over the last half of the race as Schatz took the win over Abreu, Sweet, and Macri with Carson securing the fifth and final transfer position from the heat race.

The feature event was originally slated to be 30-laps, but due to track conditions and the wear on the tires the NOS Energy Drink feature at Bridgeport Motorsports Park was shortened to just 25 laps. The track crew took the time to address the surface and did a terrific job mending and watering it in preparation for the big show. The 8-minute horn sounded and summoned the cars to the track. Carson rolled the Durst Inc./RaceDiecast.com/Team Jack Foundation #41 Maxim onto the track as he finalized his race strategy in his mind. The field was set and the engines fired. Each of the competitors got a few hot laps to test the reworked surface after the hard work the track crew put in and soon aligned themselves two-by-two in their starting positions. When they went green flag racing it was Sheldon Haudenschild to the lead up front as Carson drove the Albaugh #41 up three positions into 15th place. By lap 4, he continued his forward progress and was running in the 14th position looking for more. The field started to fan out under green flag racing conditions with the leaders tracking down the back of the pack. Haudenschild was fast, but just behind him he had the hard charging Kyle Larson looking for the top spot. With 10 laps to go, the two talented racers were putting on a show swapping the lead and position on the track at high speed. It was intense and a blast to watch. Carson was dueling for position with Kasey Kahne during the latter stage of the race. On lap 21, the yellow flag was displayed for Kahne who hit the wall in turn three after blowing out a right rear tire. Carson would restart 13th hoping to gain a spot or two before the checkers flew. Meanwhile, Sheldon Haudenschild and Kyle Larson still had four more laps to entertain the fans. They did just that as Sheldon Haudenschild raced to victory over Kyle Larson, Donny Schatz, and Logan Schuchart with Anthony Macri charging from his 14th starting position to round out the top five. Carson came up just short of that position he wanted to gain as Brad Sweet beat him to the finish line by a nose. Carson salvaged his night that started out slow in time trials with a respectable 13th place finish at Bridgeport Motorsports Park. The team will now turn their attention to their visit to Attica Raceway Park on Friday night!
