QUICK START AT TULARE: THE JJR #41 TEAM VENTURES OUT TO THE WEST COAST TO BEGIN THREE WEEKS OF RACING AND START WITH A TOP TEN RUN ON THE FIRST OF TWO NIGHTS AT THUNDERBOWL RACEWAY

TULARE, CALIFORNIA (March 11, 2022) – For the first time since 2019, Carson Macedo and the traveling tour of NOS Energy Drink World of Outlaws stars were back out in California for their Spring swing against the also formidable locals. Their first stop was at the always exciting Thunderbowl Raceway located in Tulare. There were 32 cars registered at the pit gate ready to get at it at the demanding and fin 1/3-mile bullring of speed.

After showing some speed in hot laps, Carson climbed into the cockpit of the Tarlton and Son/Liquid Trucking/Team Jack Foundation #41 Maxim for Slick Woody’s Qualifying. He would be the 19th car out on the track at speed. When Kerry Madsen took the checkers on his two laps, the Kistler Racing Engines power under the hood of the JJR #41 came alive. The courageous wheelman dropped his right foot and accelerated under the waving green flag to start the clock. He was hammer down and turned in a good lap the first circuit at 13.068 seconds. He stayed on the gas and whisked around Thunderbowl Raceway the next time almost error free. His attention to detail paid off as he jumped to the top of the speed charts with a quick lap of 12.879 seconds. That time withstood the remainder of qualifying and Carson and the JJR #41 team earned their first Slick Woody’s Qualifying Award in 2022.

By virtue of his time trial success, the Lemoore, California native knew he would be on the pole in the Albaugh – Your Alternative/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/High Performance Lubricants #41 for the first and fastest heat race based on time trial results. Fellow Californian Brad Sweet would join Macedo on the front row with an all-California row two comprised of Shane Golobic and Kyle Larsen. Kerry Madsen in the Roth Motorsports #83JR joined another California native, Dominic Scelzi, in row three. With another hometown boy, Cory Eliason from nearby Visalia on the inside of row four beside Bill Rose. When the caution lights were turned off and they hit the chalk stripe, Carson wheeled into the top spot over Sweet on the first of eight laps. He was in command and quickly started to slowly put some space between the #41 and Sweet’s #49. Carson was relentless throughout the duration and took the heat race victory over Sweet by 2.328 seconds. Those two would earn spots in the dash event. Kyle Larsen came home third followed by Shane Golobic with Kerry Madsen securing the fifth and final transfer position.

The starting lineup for the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash is established through the luck of the draw out of the oversized NOS Energy Drink can. Carson would have all 8 pills awaiting his hand, and when he pulled his number it was the ‘7’ which put him on the back row at the start of the dash along with Sheldon Haudenschild. Kraig Kinser and Giovanni Scelzi would lead the field to the green from the front row with David Gravel, Rico Abreu, Brad Sweet, and Spencer Bayston sandwiched in between the front and back rows. Scelzi wasted little time taking over the lead, but it was Bayston who had the attention of the crowd as he raced the CJB #5 from the outside of t=row three into the top 3 in the early stages of the dash. Bayston was not done as he moved into second and started to close in on the leader. Carson was running in the seventh position trying to track down Brad Sweet for position with Sheldon Haudenschild chasing him. Scelzi would collect the win and earn the pole position for the NOS Energy Drink feature with Bayston coming home second, Rico Abreu third and David Gravel grabbing the fourth position on the last lap getting by Kraig Kinser. Brad Sweet came home sixth, Carson Macedo seventh, and Sheldon Haudenschild rounded out the finishing order in the eighth position.

As the track prepped the track for the 35-lap NOS Energy Drink Feature event, Philip Dietz along with Clyde Knipp and Nate Repetz were busily at work getting the Meyers Constructors/Larry Davis Farms/Bandy and Associates #41 Maxim ready for their money run. It was time to race in front of a packed house in California for the first time in 2022. Carson would get rolling from the inside of row four with Giovanni Scelzi and Spencer Bayston on the front row. When the green lights waved it was Bayston to the lead over Scelzi with David Gravel right in the mix, Carson was running in his starting spot, but not too far out of contention. The first caution of the night came out on lap 6 when the leader, Spencer Bayston, spun in turn one with a flat left front. Giovanni Scelzi was the benefactor of the untimely misfortune for Spencer Bayston as he inherited the lead with Gravel moving into second. On the restart, Carson would get rolling from the outside of the third row. When they went back to racing though he got caught in the outside lane and got shuffled back as far as tenth before he started his charge forward. Scelzi was battling with Gravel at the front. Macedo was up on the wheel and regaining some of the positions he lost. He made his way up as far as sixth and was pressuring Brad Sweet for a spot in the top five. Kyle Larsen had worked his way by Gravel into the runner-up position and the talented racer was now pressuring Scelzi for the top spot. Giovanni Scelzi though was not backing down and maintained the lead, at least at the start/finish line each lap. Gravel worked his way back by Larsen and again was mounting a challenge for the top spot with Scelzi. Giovanni Scelzi would take the win for the Californians ahead of Gravel, Larsen, Abreu and Sweet. James McFadden, who started in the 21st starting spot, made a last lap pass on Carson to secure sixth with Carson coming home seventh, Sheldon Haudenschild eighth, Tyler Courtney ninth, and Shane Golobic rounding out the top ten. Not the end Carson and the team were looking for after a quick start, but they will take it and come back on Saturday night with their attention focused on improving. A good run for the forty-one!
