KSE HARD CHARGER KIND OF NIGHT: CARSON MACEDO DRIVES THE JJR #41 FORWARD ON THE SECOND NIGHT OF THE 51ST ANNUAL DIRTCAR NATIONALS TO COLLECT HIS FIRST TOP FIVE FINISH OF THE 2022 SEASON
BARBERVILLE, FLORIDA (February 11, 2022) – After a challenging opening night at the 51st Annual DIRTcar Nationals, Carson Macedo was ready to climb back into the cockpit of the Albaugh, LLC/Tarlton/Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions #41 Maxim on Friday night at Volusia Speedway Park. With the day time temperatures hovering around seventy degrees under partly cloudy skies, the star from Lemoore, California was anxious to get rolling. There were 34 cars lining the pit area awaiting hot laps in front of a packed house.
The sharp looking Mesilla Valley Transportation/Liquid Trucking/RaceDiecast.com #41 was sitting in the staging area awaiting for his turn against the clock in Slick Woody’s qualifying. Carson would be the 25th driver out on the track to take his two time trial laps. When he was given the green light, he flipped his shield down on his Shifty Illusions custom painted Bell Helmets lid as his Kistler Racing Engines power came to life. He was up to speed as he raced under the waving green flag on lap one. It took him 14.231 seconds to race around the fast half-mile surface of Volusia Speedway Park the first time as he was searching for more speed on lap two. When he drove under the checkered flag after lap two he found the slightest bit more as the clock read 14.230 seconds. The faster of his two laps placed him 16th quick overall on the night as David Gravel established the quickest lap of the night in time trials at 13.916 seconds.
When the World of Outlaws Tine & Scoring officials completed and posted the heat race lineups, Carson would start from the fourth position in the Durst Inc./FK Rod Ends/T-FAB Custom Metal Fabrication #41 Maxim. Tyler Courtney and Kraig Kinser sat on the front row and would lead the field to the green flag. Opening night winner Donny Schatz shared row two with Macedo with Brock Zearfoss, Wayne Johnson, Brian Bell, and Bill Rose following in the rows behind. When the green lights came on it was Courtney to the lead over Kinser as Carson wheeled into third place just ahead of Schatz. Courtney was sailing through the clean air at the front of the high speed pack. Schatz was right on Macedo’s rear nerf bar and took the show position back at the end of lap two. The heat race went non-stop with Courtney taking the win over Kinser as Schatz, Macedo and Zearfoss locked down the final three transfer positions.
Missing out on a coveted spot in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash, Carson went to work with Philip Dietz, Clyde Knipp, and Nate Repetz to get the Albaugh – Your Alternative #41 Maxim ready. He would be starting deep in the field and would have a lot of work to do throughout the 30-lap NOS Energy Drink Feature. The horns sounded and the crews rolled their entries onto the track for the start of the feature. Once all of the engines were fired, David Gravel and Sheldon Haudenschild paced the field with Tyler Courtney and Brad Sweet close behind. Carson would get rolling from the outside of row eight, the 16th starting spot, beside Kasey Kahne. The fans were about to be entertained with a great race. When the green flag waved it was Gravel to the lead over Haudenschild with Sweet tracking the leaders down. Carson wasted no time as he picked up to spots on the opening laps and a few more by the time 5 laps were in the books. On lap 6, Macedo moved into the top five in his JJR #41 rocket and was looking for more. Gravel was still leading the race on lap 13 when a caution was thrown slowing the field. Under the yellow, Carson was scored in the eighth position. When the green lights turned back on it was Gravel leading. Macedo was hard a work again as he was wheeling and dealing in the sixth position. With 12 laps to go he drove the Tarlton and Son/Bandy & Associates/Larry Davis Farms #41 into the top five. Meanwhile things were getting interesting at the front of the field between Gravel, Haudenschild, and Sweet. The three drivers were putting on a show. Sweet took the lead on lap 22 from Gravel before Gravel stole it back with 1 lap to go. But when the checkered flag flew it was Sheldon Haudenschild by the slightest of margins across the finish line over Gravel with Sweet rounding out the podium. Carson Macedo picked up 12 positions throughout the race to come home with a fourth place finish earning him the KSE Hard Charger Award. Jacob Allen rounded out the top five on night two of the 51st Annual DIRTcar Nationals. A great run forward for Macedo and the forty-one team!
