BACK AT IT IN THE SKAGIT VALLEY: HIGH SPEED ENTERTAINMENT CONTINUES ON THE SECOND NIGHT OF THE SKAGIT NATIONALS AS CARSON MACEDO SETS QUICK TIME AND WHEELS THE JJR #41 TO A SIXTH PLACE FINISH

BURLINGTON, WASHINGTON (September 4, 2021) – Following his seventh place finish on Friday night to start the Sage Fruit Skagit Nationals, Carson Macedo and the JJR #41 team were back at the 3/10-mile Skagit Speedway for the second of three nights to put on some more entertaining, high speed action for the great fans in the absolutely beautiful Skagit Valley. As Jack Kerouac wrote about this part of the country in his book The Dharma Bums, “That Skagit Country where you’re going is the greatest place in America, that snaky river running back through the gorges and into its own unpeopled watersheds, wet snowy mountains fading into dry pine mountains and deep valley . . .” That greatness of this area only gets better of course when The Greatest Show in Dirt comes to town. There were again 23 teams back at the track on Saturday night to compete for the winner’s share of the purse.

As is normal and customary, the evening got started with Slick Woody’s Qualifying. Two laps. One stopwatch. One driver at a time. Go! Carson would be the seventh driver to turn his talents loose around Skagit Speedway in time trials in the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/Walker Performance Filtration #41. His Kistler Engines power was patiently waiting, but ready to run wide open. Local competitor Brock Lemley took the checkers following his two laps at speed in time trials and Carson was the next driver up for his two laps. He dropped his right foot down on the loud pedal and roared through the timing stripe Tiger Towing style. Carson was up on the wheel steering his way around Skagit Speedway. It only took him 10.973 seconds to complete his first circuit, and 11.080 seconds the second time around. The first lap was the quicker of the two and when the final time trial lap was recorded, Carson best lap was quick time on the night as he was the only drover in the ten second bracket on the speed charts. It was Carson and the team’s second Slick Woody’s quick time of the season.

Carson would line up from the pole position in the first of three 10-lap Drydene Heat Races. He shared row one with “Double Down” Jason Sides as they led the Shark Racing duo of Logan Schuchart and Jacob Allen in row two, James McFadden and Austen Wheatley in row three, and Tanner Holmes and Malachi Gemmer in the fourth and final row during the pace laps. The flagman got to work and gave them the green light to put on a show. They obliged and the sweet sound of racing engines echo through the Skagit Valley. Carson drove the Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/Waco Metal/Team Jack Foundation #41 Maxim into the lead and was digging for more entering around the bottom through the turns in the opening laps. He had a fast hotrod and was uncontested at the front of the field, but the race for positions behind him was action packed with Sides, Schuchart, and McFadden. Carson completed the 10 lap race as he dominated and crossed the finish line a whopping 3.050 seconds ahead of the runner-up finisher Jason Sides and 5.590 seconds ahead of third place finishing James McFadden. Logan Schuchart came home fourth with Jacob Allen completing the top five.

Carson’s heat race victory earned him a spot in the 8-lap DirtVision Fast Pass Dash. Officials were keeping the show moving along, so the dash draw took place back in the pit area at the World of Outlaws command center. The night before the Lemoore, California native selected the highest pill in the oversized NOS Energy Drink can and he repeated that feat again on this night when he pulled the ‘6’ pill. That positioned him on the outside of row three with Jason Sides to his inside. David Gravel and Donny Schatz were on the front row with Brad Sweet and Sheldon Haudenschild sandwiched in the middle from row two. When they got rolling it was Gravel to the lead over Schatz with Brad Sweet right behind. Carson was running in the sixth position exploring and taking information in from a setup perspective for the feature. David Gravel took the win to earn the pole position for the feature followed by Donny Schatz, Brad Sweet, Sheldon Haudenschild, Jason Sides, and Carson Macedo.

There were 30-laps ahead in the NOS Energy Drink feature on the second of three nights of racing in the Sage Fruit Skagit Nationals. Carson would get the Albaugh – Your Alternative/All Pro Auto Reconditioning/Blackbeard LTD #41 Maxim started from the outside of row three. He had a fast racecar, but track position was crucial as passing was coming at a premium. The field of stars paced around Skagit Speedway’s 3/10-mile surface as fireworks burst overhead. When they went green, it was David Gravel driving into the top spot from his pole position starting position. Carson was up on the wheel competing for position on the track. He was working the high side of the track as the traffic in the dominant lane at the time was all on the bottom. Staying up top opened a lane for the hard-charging Brock Zearfoss to race by into the sixth position. But, Macedo would have none of it and took the spot right back in the next set of turns. The battle for position was far from over but was delayed with 8 laps in the books when the caution came out for Jacob Allen who slowed on the track with mechanical issues. David Gravel was still leading Donny Schatz, Brad Sweet, James McFadden, and Sheldon Haudenschild with Carson running in the sixth position. When racing resumed, Gravel maintained the lead but Carson was now in a torrid battle for position with Brock Zearfoss, Logan Schuchart, and Trey Starks. They all wanted to advance to the highest position, but Macedo flexed his muscles and maintained the spot. On lap 22, Brad Sweet moved by David Gravel for the lead as Donny Schatz followed him by the Big Game Motorsports #2 into the runner-up spot. Carson was still running in the sixth position but with 4 laps to go again had to fend off the challenges of the talented Pennsylvanian born wheelman, Logan Schuchart. Brad Sweet collected his 16th World of Outlaws (WoO) win of the year over Donny Schatz and David Gravel with James McFadden coming home fourth and Sheldon Haudenschild in fifth. Carson brought the JJR #41 home sixth as Schuchart, Zearfoss, Kasey Kahne, and Rico Abreu rounded out the top ten. Another good run for Macedo and the forty-one, but they have high standards and expectations and were looking for more. They would have that chance on Sunday night in the $25,000-to-win Skagit Nationals finale!
