HEARTBREAK AT HUSET’S: CARSON MACEDO ENCOUNTERS ADVERSITY WHILE LEADING EARLY IN THE PIONEER BIN BUSTER BASH AT HUSET’S SPEEDWAY BEFORE RETURNING TO AN 18TH PLACE FINISH ON SUNDAY NIGHT

BRANDON, SOUTH DAKOTA (August 22, 2021) – After crossing the finish line on Saturday night with a seventh place finish at Red River Valley Speedway on Saturday night, the Jason Johnson Racing (JJR) team loaded up and trucked to South Dakota to race at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday night in the Pioneer Bin Buster Bash. After a late afternoon rain event, Carson Macedo and the team were looking to improve their results from their previous two nights of racing at the beautiful 1/3-mile high banked facility back in June, which only yielded two Top 15 finishes, to conclude the weekend’s racing action in North Dakota and South Dakota. There were 36 drivers and teams eager to perform against the stout local competition for a chance to stand in victory lane at the end of the night holding the checkered flag.

As is normal and customary, the evening of action kicked off with Slick Woody’s Qualifying where each driver gets two time trial laps with the best one representing them for lining up the heat race order. These talented athletes get to display their skills, speed, and courage around this track whiling thrilling the fans in the stands. With the earlier precipitation, the track was fast. Things happen quickly here at Huset’s Speedway where any bobble by the driver is identified and magnified in their final times as it scrubs off speed in a world measured by hundredths of a second. Carson climbed aboard the Tiger Towing/Mr. Jim’s Racing/Fuel Safe Racing Cells #41 Maxim to prepare for his time assault on the bullring. He waited patiently in the staging area located in the infield and with the tap of a push truck his Kistler Engines power came to life. He built up his speed and momentum to take the green and start the clock. His first lap was measured in 10.838 seconds, while his second lap was recorded in 10.742 seconds. The faster of those two laps was sixth quick overall on the night. Quick time for the night went to David Gravel who completed his lap in 10.603 seconds.

The World of Outlaws (WoO) timing and scoring officials went to work consolidating the starting lineups for the four 10-lap Drydene Heat Races on tap for the night. When the lineups were released, Carson would get started in the Border International/Brown & Miller Racing Solutions (BMRS)/Blackbeard LTD #41 Maxim from the outside of the front row in the second heat race with Austin McCarl sitting on the pole. The front two drivers were followed in the starting lineup by Logan Schuchart, Paige Polyak, Matt Juhl, Jack Dover, Tyler Drueke, Tim Kaeding, and Colin Smith. When the green flag waved, Macedo hammered the loud pedal and got a great start off the line. He raced down the frontstretch and turned down across the nose of McCarl to seize the lead in turn one. He would lead the race from green to checkers in the non-stop heat race to take the win by 1.784 seconds over McCarl who was followed across the finish line by Schuchart, Polyak, Dover, and Juhl who all earned transfer positions to the feature event.

Carson Macedo locked into the 8-lap DirtVision Fast Pass Dash, where the draw would take place in the pit area as track officials were trying to keep the show moving along to beat more incoming weather. Carson would get rolling from the fourth starting spot alongside Kraig Kinser in row two. Wayne Johnson and Austin McCarl would led the field to the green flag from row one. Brock Zearfoss and David Gravel would chase from row three, as Donny Schatz and Jacob Allen got started from row four. When the yellow lights dimmed and the green flag waved, it was Wayne Johnson racing the #2c into the top spot over McCarl. Macedo would get to the bottom as he raced in front of Kinser at the start. Johnson was fast and started to build his lead over McCarl. Macedo was able to close in on McCarl, but was unable to ever get close enough to drive the Liquid Trucking/C&R Racing/T-FAB Custom Metal Fabrication #41 by or race for position. Johnson took the dash win over McCarl and Macedo with David Gravel coming home fourth followed by Kinser, Schatz, Allen, and Zearfoss.

Earning the third starting spot in the 35-lap NOS Energy Drink Pioneer Bin Buster Bash feature at Huset’s Speedway, Philip Dietz and the JJR crew made some final adjustments before Carson climbed in and buckled up. Readied for action, Macedo pushed the Tarlton and Son/High Performance Lubricants/Smith Titanium #41 Maxim onto the race track prepared for his drive to success. His engine fired and Carson rolled into his starting position on the inside of row three. After saluting the fans in their four-wide formation, it was time to go racing at Huset’s Speedway! When the green flag waved it was again polesitter Wayne Johnson to the lead as Macedo worked his way into the runner-up position during the opening lap. He was stalking Johnson and making progress. As the leaders approached lap traffic the leader’s security in the top spot was being tested. On lap 8, the Lemoore, California driver of the JJR #41 caught him and drove underneath him off turn four to lead the lap. There was a gaggle of slower traffic in front of the leader and the next time around in turn four Matt Juhl caught slowed up right in front of Macedo who tagged him and spun to a stop in turn four. After heading to the work area, he rejoined the rear of the field hoping to salvage his night. When racing resumed, Johnson would regain the lead until lap 15 when he was passed by Austin McCarl for the top spot. Macedo was working valiantly to move up through the field, but found it challenging. McCarl had an unwanted visitor looking to take the lead in David Gravel. With 12 laps to go, Gravel stole the spot in the Big Game Motorsports #2. He was tracking down the back of the field and weaving through lap traffic. His momentum was only stopped with four laps to go when Carson Macedo’s right rear tire exploded off turn two sending him back to the work area. Macedo again rejoined the field at the back of the pack. Gravel brought the field back up to speed and was only briefly interrupted by another yellow flag, this time for Marcus Dumesny who rolled to a stop in turn two. Gravel would go onto to take the win over Austin McCarl and Jacob Allen with Donny Schatz and Kraig Kinser rounding out the top five. A facing adversity again at the South Dakota speed plant, a disappointed Carson Macedo brought home an 18th place finish. He will put it behind him and refocus as he turns his attention to Wednesday night when he and the series returns to River Cities Speedway after being rained out there on Friday night.
