GREAT KNIGHT (OR DAY) OF ACTION: AFTER RAIN WASHED AWAY THE KNIGHT BEFORE THE KINGS ROYAL ON FRIDAY NIGHT, MACEDO DRIVES THE DURST INC. #41 MAXIM TO ANOTHER VICTORY AT ELDORA ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON

ROSSBURG, OHIO (July 18, 2021) – The high speed activity continued for Carson Macedo and the JJR #41 sprint car team on Sunday afternoon at Eldora Speedway with the running Knight Before the Kings Royal that was postponed from Friday night due to rain. Racing for the fourth race at Eldora Speedway against the best in the business would wear most teams out, but without the option to pull your foot off the accelerator, each of the competitors was looking to protect their turf as they pursued the gold at the end of the day on Sunday. With 30 cars back and parked throughout the pit area for another battle for supremacy on the Knight Before (or Day After) the Kings Royals would be no easy tasks. Philip Dietz, Clyde Knipp, and Nate Repetz, along with Carson Macedo, were preparing the Tarlton and Son/Greber Racing Components (GRC)/Vaportrail/Maxim Racing #41 speed chariot for some Sunday “Funday” action!

Each of the drivers would start slinging dust on the daytime surface when they pushed out for their two time trial laps in Slick Woody’s Qualifying action. Based on the size of the field there would only be one group for qualifying. Carson would be the 21st driver to take his individual laps against the clock. He situated himself into his Fibreworks Composites carbon fiber seat with a custom fitted Sharp Advantage insert by Dave Sharpley before the crew pushed the car back away from the trailer. Carson rolled into the staging area as he peered through the opening of his Shifty Illusions custom painted Bell Helmet while awaiting his shot on the half-mile oval. When Harli White flew by for the last time, Macedo entered the track’s surface in turn one and rolled up the banking. He built up speed and dashed towards the green flag to start the time moving on his first lap. As he exited turn four, he wheeled the forty-one by the waving white flag as his first circuit was captured on the clock in 16.557 seconds. He was making better progress on lap two and when he crossed the finish line he improved his time slightly with a lap of 15.754 seconds. The quickest lap that he turned positioned him 18th quick overall. Rico Abreu set quick time with a timed lap of 14.229 seconds after going out third for his qualifying laps.

The three 8-lap Drydene Heat Races were up next under the beaming sun overhead. Carson would start from the outside of row three aboard the Jonestown KOA/Durst Inc./Liquid Trucking #41 Maxim with Sam Hafertepe Jr. to his inside. Aaron Reutzel and Shawn Dancer were at the front in row one. Wayne Johnson and Brad Sweet paced from row two as James McFadden, Sye Lynch, Jason Sides and Carson Short filled in the last two rows. When the green flag waved it was Aaron Reutzel to the lead as Carson Macedo weaved through the field into the runner-up position on lap one. He was consistent and fast on this tricky surface. Carson skillfully maneuvered in a manner that allowed him to carry his momentum and he was closing in on the leader after lap two. By lap three Macedo was right there with Reutzel, and the next time around The Big E he made the pass for the lead and made it stick. He continued his speed and led the remaining five laps to take the win by 2.960 seconds over Aaron Reutzel and Brad Sweet, with James McFadden, Shawn Dancer and Wayne Johnson earning the remaining transfer positions to the feature event.

Earning another opportunity in the 6-lap DirtVision Fast Pass Dash, where he would be starting from the third spot beside Spencer Bayston, Carson climbed in to the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/Meyers Constructors/Waco Metal #41. Brian Brown and Logan Schuchart made up the front row with Sheldon Haudenschild and Aaron Reutzel in row three. The green flag waved and Brown drove the Casey’s General Store #21 into the top spot. Carson used his inside starting position to drive through what moisture was left on the inside of the front straightaway and used it to propel himself into the runner-up position ahead of Logan Schuchart. Brian Brown was fast at the front of the pack, but Carson was trying to chase him down. When the black and white checkered flag flew over the field, it was Brown taking the win over Macedo, with Schuchart coming home third, Haudenschild fourth, while Spencer Bayston and Reutzel rounded out the finishing order.

After the track crew added a little water and re-worked the racing surface, it was time for the NOS Energy Drink, Knight Before (or Day After) the Kings Royals 30-lap feature. Philip Dietz made his final setup adjustments as Clyde and Nate completed their work. It was again time to go racing at Eldora Speedway, but this time on a much different surface than the prior three races. Carson Macedo was primed and ready to go in the Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/BR Motorsports/Brown & Miller Racing Solutions #41 Maxim. He rolled into his third starting position and anxiously awaited the green flag. When the flag man unfurled the green cloth, he wasted little time as he drove the forty-one into the lead over Brian Brown, Sheldon Haudenschild and Logan Schuchart. He was able to use the clean air to maintain his speed and build a half straightaway lead on the competition early. By lap 6 he had already caught up to the back of the pack and had to begin navigating lap traffic. Carson moved by Brent Marks and immediately went to work on Greg Wilson. But Logan Schuchart who had raced his way up to second was charging forward and closing the distance between himself and the leader. Macedo maintained the lead and on lap 12 the yellow flag was thrown for Aaron Reutzel and Kraig Kinser who had cut down their right rear tires. While those two were in the work area, Sheldon Haudenschild also had a flat right rear tire that had a big slash in it. All had their tires changed in the work area and rejoined the field. But before any racing could resume second place running Logan Schuchart had to head pit side as his right rear tire was going down too! His crew was able to change the tire and get him back out on the track.

Now with 18 laps to go, Carson chose the inside lane for the restart with Brian Brown to his outside. The driver of the forty-one led when the crossed the starting line, but Brown was right there and was recorded as the leader on lap 13. Macedo though dove back under Brown entering turn one and retook the lead. The track started to take on rubber, so the already tricky surface was becoming trickier. Carson was doing a masterful job driving the JJR #41 and was again building a sizable lead over Brown. The fans who were back in attendance, estimated at about 5,300 in the stands, were anxious with anticipation. Would there be more tire issues? Would it impact the leader of the race? Carson drove the Tarlton and Son #41 under the waving white flag indicating one lap to go. He was heading down the backstretch when the final yellow flag of the race was thrown, this time for James McFadden and Tyler Courtney who completely shredded their tires.

It was Carson Macedo at the front followed by Brian Brown, Brad Sweet, Spencer Bayston and Donny Schatz. The 30 lap event would not be extended to 31 laps with a green-white-checkered restart. The green was back out and Macedo drove hard through the first set of turns. He came back to the white flag with Brown right there hoping to take the lead. Macedo did not waver and raced back to the checkered flag first to collect his seventh World of Outlaws (WoO) win of the season, and eighth overall as he won an All Star Circuit of Champions (ASCoC) race in Volusia Speedway Park back in February. After clearing the scales, he headed to victory lane at Eldora Speedway for the second time in four races after entering the week with no career wins here. The humble driver unbuckled his Crow Enterprizes safety belts and climbed out to thank his JJR crew. He was greeted by Jaxx Johnson and took him up on the wing to celebrate with Jaxx yelling “WooHoo” as the confetti fell. In victory lane Carson suggestively stated, “I just can’t say enough about Philip Dietz and this JJR team. Clyde and Nate are doing a great job.” Another great run for the forty-one as they look to keep their speed and winning ways going in the right direction at Lernerville Speedway on Tuesday night.
