HUNTING IN THE PIGEON HILLS: A MID-WEEK SHOW AT LINCOLN SPEEDWAY STARTS THE OUTLAW’S ANNUAL RIVALRY AGAINST THE PENNSYLVANIA POSSE WITH MACEDO AND THE JJR #41 TEAM EARNING A 6TH PLACE FINISH

ABBOTTSTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA (May 12, 2021) – With spring in the air and the World of Outlaws in the Keystone State it can only mean one thing – the Pennsylvania Posse versus the stars of the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series. Game on! The talent that is found in Central Pennsylvania is matched only by the rich sprint car breeding grounds found throughout Ohio and California when it comes to proven talent production. But for those that call Pennsylvania home that statement is flawed and some would say absolutely false. They are diehards, which is great for the sport. Their loyalty and fierce support of their home state drivers and teams enables them to look forward to when The Greatest Show on Dirt comes to town with confidence they can steal a victory. The first battle of the week would take place at Lincoln Speedway, which is nestled at the foothills of the Pigeon Hills in Adams County, at the 3/8-mile, high banked dirt race track for the Gettysburg Clash. There were 48 teams lining the pit area that overlooks the backstretch of the speedway, the largest field to date in WoO competition.

With a strong field of cars, the field was split into two flights for Slick Woody’s Qualifying by random draw when they entered the pit gates. Carson Macedo was looking forward to getting back in the seat of the Durst Inc./Winters Performance Products/FK Shocks #41 Maxim for his two laps at speed. He would be the fifth driver to push onto the track off turn three in Flight A as he pounded the loud pedal and awoke his Kistler Engines power. He charged under the waving green flag and maneuvered his way around Lincoln Speedway trying to beat the clock. His first lap was recorded at 13.165 seconds. Elbows up, he used his KSE Racing Products to steer his way around the racy oval the next time around with a lap of 13.574 seconds after scrubbing off some speed at the exit of turn four. The better of the California raised talent’s two laps in the JJR #41 was second quick in Flight A and overall, as PA Posse member Anthony Macri set quick time with a slightly faster lap of 13.133 seconds.

There were four 8-lap Drydene Heat Race events on tap with the Jonestown KOA/AutoMeter/Buckwalter Trucking #41 prepared to get started from the pole position in the second heat race sharing the row with Pennsylvania racing legend Lance Dewease in the famous Donald Kreitz, Jr. #69k. Each of the heat races were loaded with drivers who know how to win. Aligned in their two-by-two starting order they paced down the backstretch and when the front row starters got to the chalk stripe in turn four they lowered the gas pedal to the floor and filled the air with the sweet sound of sprint cars. Carson was wheeling and dealing from the top position in the early stages of the qualifying race as he was being pressed by Lance Dewease and a hard-charging Sheldon Haudenschild who started outside row two. Macedo got into a high speed rhythm with each passing lap and built a pretty sizable lead by the midway point of the race. He took the white flag and was maneuver on what he thought was the final lap before the yellow came out as Justin Peck spun his #20 around to bring out the caution. It would be a green-white-checkered finish which would extend the race by one lap. Leading the single file restart, Macedo blasted off turn four and was cruising Cali style in clean air at the front. He raced across the finish line 1.850 seconds ahead of runner-up Lance Dewease with Sheldon Haudenschild coming home third followed by TJ Stutts and Kyle Moody in the Moody Motorsports #99m to complete the top five.

Earning a spot in the 6-lap DirtVision Fast Pass Dash meant Carson had to try to improve his luck so far this season when choosing a number for his starting spot when pulling from the oversized NOS Energy Drink can. No luck. No change. No four leaf clovers. He once again pulled the highest number in the darn can, the number eight, which meant he would start from the last position in row four. No worries though as he is a confident speed chauffeur and enjoys racing and passing cars. Donny Schatz would start from the pole with Lance Dewease to his outside. The front row starters had Anthony Macri, Paul McMahan, Aaron Reutzel, Brad Sweet, James McFadden, and Macedo behind them. Schatz brought them up to speed and led early over Sweet. He had his Ford Performance #15 moving. Carson meanwhile was in the middle of a 3-car race for the sixth position with Paul McMahan and Aaron Reutzel. McMahan had it, but Reutzel and Macedo wanted it. At the halfway point of the race Macedo got it, but a lap later both McMahan and Reutzel got their positions back. Schatz raced under the checkers for the win over Sweet, Dewease, and Macri as the second half finishing order was McFadden, McMahan, Reutzel, and Macedo.

With all of the qualifying action in the books, the only thing left on the race agenda for the evening is what the fans, drivers and teams came here for on this Wednesday night in Central Pennsylvania . . . the 35-lap NOS Energy Drink Gettysburg Clash feature at Lincoln Speedway. The 26-car field was set with two provisional starters – Alan Krimes and Tim Wagaman – and it was time to go racing in the Pigeon Hills! Carson would get started aboard the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/Tarlton and Son Inc. #41 from the eighth spot on the grid with front row starters Donny Schatz and Brad Sweet leading the field to the green flag. The competitive juices were flowing in the cockpit as these athletes were ready to put on a show for the fans looking to put the first stake in the ground in the Pennsylvania Posse versus the World of Outlaws rivalry. The yellow lights around the speedway dimmed as the flagman singled we are going green next time around as the field rolled down the frontstretch. As the cars came through turn three the wheels began to spin and before you knew it they were flying around Lincoln Speedway with high speed action throughout the entire pack of competitors. Macedo was rolling forward as he moved into the sixth position after lap one with Schatz leading. Action came to an abrupt stop on lap three when Chad Trout got into the wall in turn one and flipped. The restart order was Schatz, Sweet, Macri, Dewease, McFadden and Macedo. Schatz held off Sweet to maintain the lead when they restarted, but before a lap could be completed the yellow came out for Robbie Kendall who sat sideways in turn one. With a single file restart, Schatz led the field past the orange restart cone on the frontstretch and they were back at it at Lincoln. Brad Sweet was all over Schatz for the top spot as Macedo was dicing with James McFadden for a spot in the top five. The racing was really entertaining. On lap 8, fourth running Lance Dewease rolled to a stop with heavy smoke coming from the engine compartment to bring out another yellow flag. On the restart, Macedo blasted his way into third exiting turn two on the low side, but Macri and fast moving Brent Marks fought by and passed him back before the lap was completed with Marks catapulting into third. Macedo was running in the top five with McFadden and Aaron Reutzel now right behind him vying for position. They only got one lap in before another yellow was displayed, this time for Jacob Allen who spun in turn two in the Shark Racing #1a. Schatz again would control the lead over Sweet on the restart with Marks, Macri and Macedo racing for position as McFadden and Aaron Reutzel were stalking Macedo. He was now running in the fifth position entangled in another torrid battle with McFadden and Reutzel for position. One driver was low with the other two pounding the cushion on the high side. This was fun to watch as this talented trio raced cleanly for position. Meanwhile Sweet overtook Schatz on lap 12 for the lead, but the next time around Schatz stole it back. Things were also heating up as Myerstown, Pennsylvania native Brent Marks was making the low side work as he moved into position pressing the leaders. Marks would soon make the pass on Schatz for the lead on lap 25 before having to get on the brakes forcing him up over the cushion to avoid a spinning Danny Dietrich three laps later. Schatz also needed to take evasive action. This bobble for the top two competitors allowed Brad Sweet to sneak by to take the lead with Schatz falling back to third and Marks to fourth. Carson was fast in the forty-one but lost his top five position to rapidly moving David Gravel who was meticulously running the low side in all four corners. At the front, Brent Marks was back on the throttle as he charged forward and was pressing Sweet again for the lead with the white flag waving. Sweet would hold on to win the Gettysburg Clash as the PA Posse duo of Brent Marks and Anthony Macri completed the podium. David Gravel finished fourth and Donny Schatz beat Carson Macedo to the finish line to earn fifth. Macedo settled for sixth, which was another good run for the forty-one as they now turn their attention to Williams Grove for the two-day Morgan Cup on Friday and Saturday night at the historic half-mile.
