HUSTLING IN THE HOOSIER STATE: A SOLID SIXTH PLACE RUN IN FRONT OF AN ABSOLUTELY PACKED HOUSE AT KOKOMO SPEEDWAY KICKS OFF THE WEEKEND OF HIGH SPEED RACING ACTION IN INDIANA

KOKOMO, INDIANA (April 9, 2021) – With the spring weather upon us, Carson Macedo and the JJR #41 team, along with the World of Outlaw’s The Greatest Show on Dirt competitors, headed to the racing rich Hoosier State for this weekend of high speed action. On Friday evening, the gates opened at the famous Kokomo Speedway, welcoming the teams and fans to the always exciting and competitive quarter mile bullring. With the All Star Circuit of Champions (ASCoC) having an off week on their schedule, the pit area was filled with 36 talented teams as the drivers were excited, focused, and ready to put on a show in Indiana WoO style.

Starting your night off with a fast time in Slick Woody’s Qualifying is very important for each of the teams and drivers when you are racing against the best in the business. The random draw sets the qualifying order, so you have to bring some Lady Luck with you when you draw your pill. On this night at Kokomo, Carson Macedo and the Tarlton and Son/Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/Jonestown KOA #41 would be the 8th car out on the track. The track record here was set back on June 5, 2012 by Sammy Swindell with a lap time of 10.950 seconds. When it was his turn, the Lemoore, California native jumped on the accelerator and filled the air with the sweet sound of sprint car coming through his Schoenfeld Headers. He took the green and used his talents and skills to hit his marks as he turned left at the entry of each set of turns. His lap time the first time around was 11.547 seconds. Keeping his elbows up, Carson kept working hard with an 11.702 second final lap. The better of his two attempts was 15th quick on the night.

When the Drydene Heat Race lineups were set based on each of the driver’s qualifying times, the Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/Team Jack Foundation #41 Maxim would get rolling with Macedo behind the wheel from the fourth position with CJ Leary in the #55 to his inside. With competition like this at the track there are never any “easy” heat races, but this one was filled with talented names like Ian Madsen, Justin Peck, Brock Zearfoss and Giovanni Scelzi to name a few. With the shield down on his Shifty Illusions custom painted Bell Helmet, Macedo was focused and ready to roll. When the green flag waved over the field he drove the forty-one from the outside of row two down to the low side through one and two. He passed Peck and was in second on the exit of the first set of turns. Ian Madsen, who started on the pole, led Macedo and Peck around Kokomo for all of the 10 laps. He crossed the finish line 0.707 seconds ahead of Macedo with Peck, Zearfoss and Ayrton Gennetten rounding out the finishing order for the transfer spots.

With the top two finishers in each of the four heat races transferring into the 8-lap DirtVision Fast Pass Dash, the starting lineup would be set by the luck of the draw. When Carson approached the oversized NOS Energy Drink can there were only two pills left inside the can – a six and an eight. When Carson revealed his number it was the higher of the two and he would start in the last row of the dash with Ian Madsen flanking him to his left. Jason Sides and David Gravel were on the front row followed by James McFadden, Parker Price-Miller, Hunter Schuerenberg, and Donny Schatz. When the racing commenced, Gravel drover the #2 into the lead with McFadden close behind. Macedo was running in seventh aboard the Liquid Trucking/Wilwood Racing #41 Maxim as he had his sights set on Donny Schatz just ahead of him. Gravel checked out at the front, but Macedo and Schatz were battling for position. Schatz spun in turn four after Macedo made the pass to bring out the yellow. Gravel would go on to win the dash over McFadden, Sides, Price-Miller, and Schuerenberg with Macedo coming home sixth followed by Schatz and Madsen. The dash finishing order set the starting lineup for the first four rows of the feature.

For the 40-lap World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink feature, Carson zipped up his JJR emblazoned K1 Race Gear custom suit and pulled on his racing gloves as he readied himself to roll the Meyers Constructors/Durst Inc./Chalk Stix Torsion Bars #41 Maxim into his sixth starting spot. The field was set. The fans were standing. And, the green flag waved over the field. David Gravel drove the Big Game Motorsports #2 into the lead with James McFadden’s Karavan Trailers #9 giving chase. With two laps in the books, 10-time WoO champion Donny Schatz slowed on the front straightaway with mechanical issues that ended his night. Gravel would lead with Macedo running in the fifth position. When racing resumed, the talented stars of the sport got back up to speed with battles for position throughout the field. Hunter Schuerenberg and Macedo made contact in turn one with the forty-one getting up over the cushion and relegating him back two spots in the running order. By lap 9, the talented driver from Lemoore, California moved back into the top five. At the front, McFadden tracked down Gravel and made a pass for the lead on lap 11. Macedo moved up to fourth on lap 13, before current point leader Brad Sweet visited and took the fourth position from Carson on lap 15. At the halfway point of the race it was McFadden leading Gravel, Tyler Courtney, Parker Price-Miller, Sweet and Macedo. The action on the track was absolutely frenetic, but with 19 laps to go a slowing Logan Schuchart brought out the yellow. He would head to the work area and tag the rear of the field. Before the engines could roar again, third running Tyler Courtney was unfortunately forced pit side with his right rear tire going down. HE changed it and rejoined the field. The restart order was McFadden, Gravel, Macedo, Sweet and Price-Miller. McFadden raced under the green flag as Sweet stole the show position from Macedo when racing resumed. Another caution, this time for Tim Kaeding with 14 laps to go, reset the field for another restart. When they got rolling, Carson drove the Jonestown KOA/T-FAB Custom Metal Fabrication #41 back by Sweet, but Sweet would have none of it and took the spot back promptly. Macedo would then be embroiled in a battle for position with red hot Justin Peck in the Buch #13. Peck would make the pass for the real estate on the track with Macedo now running in fifth. With 10 laps to go, the red flag came out for Carson Short who got upside down in turn two after his wheel hub broke entering turn one. McFadden still led Gravel with Macedo in fifth. When they got back to racing, Carson again was one of the stars of the show as he was now battling with 21st starting Sheldon Haudenschild and Ian Madsen for position. The three drivers were just downright tussling at speed with Macedo holding the position with three laps to go when the yellow came out for a spinning Jason Sides. On the restart, second running David Gravel spun into the infield to bring out another quick yellow. The restart order was McFadden, Sweet, Peck, Macedo, and Haudenschild. McFadden would get the jump and lead the remaining laps to collect the feature win over Sweet, as Peck secured the final podium spot ahead of Madsen and Haudenschild who slipped by Macedo who finished sixth when the checkered flag ended the event. Another consistent and good run for Macedo and the forty-one!
