DRIVING FORWARD AT PEVELY: CARSON MACEDO AND THE JJR #41 TEAM PICK UP TWO POSITIONS ON NIGHT TWO AT FEDERATED AUTO PARTS RACEWAY AT I-55 TO COLLECT AN EIGHTH PLACE FINISH

PEVELY, MISSOURI (April 3, 2021) – Following their fifth place finish on Friday night, the JJR #41 team with Carson Macedo behind the wheel were back at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 for the second consecutive night of high speed action around the fast and racy, high-banked 1/3-mile track. The holiday commuter traffic was hauling in both directions on Interstate 55 that runs parallel behind the front straightaway as 26 teams were preparing their cars in the pit area located off turn two and the backstretch at this high speed joint. Philip Dietz, Clyde Knipp, and Nate Repetz rolled the silver and black Durst Inc./Jonestown KOA/Larry Davis Farms #41 Maxim out of the hauler ready to get it rolling for their driver.   

After pulling pills to align the Slick Woody’s Qualifying order, Carson reviewed the final qualifying list where he would go out late as the 22nd driver on the track for his two laps at speed. He buckled into the cockpit of his Maxim Racing machine and waited patiently in the infield to be pushed off. His Kistler Engines power came to life as he pushed up on the banking between turns one and two. He nailed the loud pedal to get up to speed and took the green flag as his Hoosier Racing Tires threw up dirt on the wall as he passed through the first set of turns. The California-born racer knows how to drive fast and when he completed his first of two laps the clock read 10.547 seconds. He maintained his speed and momentum as he strategically maneuvered around the track the second time around, this time recording a quicker lap at 10.474 seconds. The faster of his two laps ended up 13th quick overall on the night at I-55.

When scanning the lineups for the 10-lap Drydene Heat Races, Carson would be slated to start fifth in the Complete Parts & Solutions/ISC Racers Tape/Wilwood Racing #41 Maxim. He would share the row with Mason Daniel, with quick timer David Gravel and Jason Sides pacing the field from the front row as Zach Hampton and Logan Schuchart followed close behind in row two. Macedo dropped the hammer when the yellow lights were replaced by green ones as he was racing from fifth in the opening stages of the race. Gravel was in command at the front of the pack with Jason Sides a distant second. Just after the halfway point of the race, Zach Hampton began to fade with a nose wing issue allowing Macedo to move into the fourth position. Gravel earned the heat race win over Sides and Schuchart with Macedo coming home fourth in The Boyd Family/Blackbeard LTD/Buckwalter Trucking #41. Rico Abreu and Hampton secured the last two transfer positions from the first heat event with Gravel and Sides moving onto the DirtVision Fast Pass Dash.

The track officials at I-55 Raceway did a tremendous job preparing the racing surface for some great racing action. The 24-car field was set for the NOS Energy Drink 40-lap feature event as the drivers and crews went to work making their final adjustments to their speed chariots. Macedo, wearing his Tarlton and Son K1 Race Gear suit climbed aboard the Complete Parts & Equipment/Chalk Stix Torsion Bars/Bandy & Associates Accountancy Corporation #41 Maxim where he would start the race from the 10th position with Sam Hafertepe in his red #15 to his inside. After the four-wide salute to the fans, and Johnny Gibson doing his traditional introduction of The Greatest Show on Dirt,  red hot Brad Sweet was sitting on the pole with Giovanni Scelzi sharing the front row with him. Row two was always fast Aaron Reutzel and Sheldon Haudenschild as David Gravel and Jason Sides were in row three. Sweet led the field to the green flag and led early. The racing was fast and close with Macedo racing in the night position and making his way up to eighth on lap two. Macedo was racing with James McFadden for position and the two talented drivers were putting on a show. McFadden would make the pass for the position on lap 9 with Macedo sticking in the ninth spot. Sweet was speeding away at the front of the pack when the red flag was displayed with 15 laps to go for Tucker Klaasmeyer who got upside down on the frontstretch after making contact with a slowing Ayrton Gennetten. When racing was set to resume, Macedo got restarted from the ninth position in the running order. He moved into eighth when the field got back up to speed and then gained another position into the seventh when he got by Reutzel with 4 laps to go. Sweet to the win over Haudenschild with Scelzi rounding out the podium. Logan Schuchart brought the Shark Racing #1s home fourth with McFadden rounding out the top five. David Gravel came home sixth in the Big Game Motorsports #2 as Kraig Kinser secured the seventh position with a last lap, last turn pass of Macedo. Carson came home eighth with Reutzel and Sides rounding out the top ten. Another good run for the forty-one!
