HONORING OUR HERO: CARSON MACEDO DRIVES HARD IN THE JASON JOHNSON RACING (JJR) ENTRY TO A FIFTH PLACE FINISH IN THE THIRD ANNUAL JASON JOHNSON CLASSIC AT LAKE OZARK SPEEDWAY

ELDON, MISSOURI (March 27, 2021) – There are a lot of special races on the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series schedule each season, but for the last three years the Jason Johnson Classic presented by FK Rod Ends at Lake Ozark Speedway has always stuck out for the team as a chance to honor their hero and continue his legacy. As only fate would have it, the team would collect the victory in the inaugural race in 2019 with David Gravel behind the wheel and followed that up last year with the honor of having long-time friend and competitor Shane Stewart pilot the JJR #41 car in this special race. For this year’s race, Carson Macedo the young driver who was the first driver to valiantly climb into the JJR #41 seat and find success at Knoxville following the tragic day back on June 23, 2018 for the team, was the full-time driver for JJR and ready to do wat he does best . . . race with passion. Special indeed as he and the JJR #41 team joined the 31 teams registered and parked in the pit area outside turns three and four for a shot at adding their name to the winner’s list of the Jason Johnson Classic presented by FK Rod Ends.

Carson would be the 28th driver out on the 1/3-mile, semi-banked Lake Ozark Speedway in Slick Woody’s Qualifying. This place is fast and technical, so the drivers have no room for error. Macedo tightened his Crow Enterprizes safety belts one last time before the push truck tapped his rear nerf bar to fire his Kistler Engines/Engler Machine and Tool power aboard the Durst, Inc./FK Rod Ends #41 Maxim. He drove onto the track off turn four and was all out as he raced under the waving green flag. He was letting it all hang out looking to make a lap that surpassed Jason Sides track record that was set back on October 19, 2019, at the inaugural Jason Johnson Classic event with a lap time of 11.111 seconds. The forty-one stopped the clock at 11.880 seconds the first lap. The California driver stayed on the gas and improved his time the second time around with a lap of 11.725 seconds. When the last qualifier, James McFadden the defending Jason Johnson Classic winner completed his two circuits, Carson’s fastest lap recorded was 10th quick overall for the night.

When WoO timing and scoring officials posted the 10-lap Drydene Heat Race lineups, Carson would be scheduled to start fourth in the Complete Parts & Solutions/Jonestown KOA/Wilwood Racing #41 Maxim with Wayne Johnson to his inside. Kasey Kahne Racing (KKR) teammates Brad Sweet and James McFadden were on the front row with McFadden blasting into the lead on the first lap. Macedo settled into the show position and drove under Sweet for the second spot. He then was tracking down McFadden for the lead as the track surface starting to break up. McFadden was chasing down the back of the pack and started to navigate lapped traffic. Macedo used this opportunity to close in and with two-to-go he entered turn one low and exited two side-by-side with for the lead. McFadden sped back into the top spot with Macedo following, but now Brad Sweet was sneaking up on the front two as they were mired racing with slower cars. Sweet snuck by Macedo on the last lap to steal the runner-up position as McFadden took the win. Macedo fell one spot short for a chance to run in the DirtVision Fast Pass Dash.

Afor the NOS Energy Drink 41-lap Third Annual Jason Johnson Classic feature, Macedo would get rolling from the seventh position aboard the Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/High Performance Lubricant/Sam I Am #41. Brad Sweet and Sheldon Haudenschild were in row one with Shark Racing teammates Logan Schuchart and Jacob Allen in row two with James McFadden and Kraig Kinser in row three. The track surface continued to deteriorate as the car pushed onto the track. Sweet wasted no time as he jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag. Macedo wheeled into the fifth position by the end of lap one. He was aggressively driving through the bumps tracking down Allen. Allen got airborne in turn two and did a magnificent job collecting it back up, but Macedo closed to within a car length for the fourth position. The two were battling hard when Allen again hit the ruts in turns one and two this time sending him into a series of flips. Macedo narrowly missed the flipping Allen. He would restart fourth behind Sweet, Haudenschild, and Schuchart with McFadden chasing his rear tail tank. While under red flag conditions, officials made the decision to cut the race from the original 41 laps down to 30 laps due to track conditions. When racing resumed Sweet again drove hard into the lead over Haudenschild as Macedo got sideways after struggling with the track’s surface relegating him back to sixth as McFadden and Kraig Kinser got by for position. He kept battling hard fighting to get back into the top five. He got by Kinser and was elbows up. But it was all Brad Sweet as he lapped all the way up to seventh to take the win over Haudenschild and McFadden with Schuchart and Macedo rounding out the top five. A good run for the forty-one!
