BACK IN THE SUNSHINE STATE FOR SOME FUN: MACEDO AND THE JJR #41 TEAM RETURN TO VOLUSIA SPEEDWAY PARK TO RESTART THE WoO SEASON AS THE KSE HARD CHARGER RACES FROM TENTH TO COLLECT THE WIN!

BARBERVILLE, FLORIDA (March 5, 2021) – You may be wondering if time passed by too quickly and the calendar somehow flipped to 2022, since the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series were back at Volusia Speedway Park. The answer is no, but in this crazy world we live in the drivers and teams were grateful the officials adapted and rebuilt the schedule after winter weather and continued COVID restrictions in California wiped out the West Coast swing and wiped out the previous racing schedule. Following the unexpected WoO schedule interruption, Carson Macedo and the JJR #41 crew unloaded the Mesilla Valley Transportation/Border International #41 Maxim back on the sandy soil of central Florida ready to get back on the track and up to speed. There were 24 cars lining the pit area on Friday night ready to take on the track dubbed The World’s Fastest Half-Mile!

When the pill draw was completed for time trials, the Lemoore, California driver was slated push off 19th for his two timed laps around Volusia Speedway Park aboard the Tarlton and Son Inc. Frame-2-Finish/Larry Davis Farms #41. The fastest lap around Volusia was set back on February 10, 2011 by Paul McMahan at a blistering 12.569 seconds. The California gasser would summon the horsepower from his Kistler Engines/Engler Machine & Tool power plant and get up to speed to take the green flag when Kasey Kahne completed his two qualifying laps. With the second hand on the timing device ticking by, Macedo was doing what he does best from the comfort of his Fibreworks Composites custom safety seat. Following the completion of his first lap the clock read 13.428 seconds. He stayed poised and hit his marks the second time around improving his lap time to 13.346 seconds with the checkered flag flying. The quicker of his two laps was 10th quick overall on the night.

With three 8-lap Drydene Heat Races on tap, World of Outlaws timing and scoring officials went to work to consolidate and build out the heat race lineups. The JJR #41 would start from the outside of row two in the first and fastest heat race. Philip, Clyde and Nate went to work doing their thing to make all the necessary adjustments on the Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions/Brown & Miller Racing Solutions (BMRS) Maxim to ready their entry for high speed action. Quick timer, Sheldon Haudenschild sat on the pole with “Blackjack” Brian Brown to his outside. When the green waved, the NOS Energy Drink #17 driver darted into the lead over Brown, with Macedo battling for position with third starting Gio Scelzi and seventh starting Brent Marks who was on his rear nerf bar. Haudenschild quickly checked out on the field, while Macedo continued to have his hands full. The track was still a little greasy and his car was just off a bit setup wise. When Haudenschild raced under the checkers he took the win over Scelzi and Brown, as the Lemoore, California chauffeur brought the forty-one home fourth ahead of Marks who rounded out the top five.

Philip Dietz and the crew wasted no time listening and taking the feedback from their driver and going to work to make the car better for feature time for their talented driver. Working together, the team had the Greber Racing Components (GRC)/Jonestown KOA #41 ready when the horns sounded for the 30-lap NOS Energy Drink feature. They saluted the fans in the tradition four-wide parade lap and then nestled back into the two-by-two starting order with Sam Hafertepe and David Gravel perched on the front row as Gio Scelzi and Logan Schuchart paced behind. Hafertepe seized the early race lead at the drop of the green as Carson Macedo stomped on the gas and drove into the eighth spot at the start. Macedo had speed and was racing forward in the early stages of the race. Meanwhile Hafertepe, Gravel, and Schuchart were fiercely battling in the top three positions on the track. Schuchart was after Gravel for the runner-up spot when he bobbled slightly and found himself back in fourth as Scelzi took advantage and slipped by him to gain track position. On lap 11 the caution flag was displayed when Scelzi and Schuchart got together in turn four to stall the action as Schuchart’s #1s sat sideways stopped on the track. Logan would rejoin the back of the field as Hafertepe held onto the top spot with Gravel and Haudenschild now putting pressure on the leader when they restarted. Macedo drove off the top side and into the fourth spot passing Donny Schatz and Gio Scelzi and had his sights set on the trio ahead of him at the midpoint of the race. With 17 laps to go, Macedo restarted from the inside of the second row after a caution flag as the leader Hafertepe selected the outside lane for the restart. Carson patiently paced behind David Gravel’s Big Game Motorsports #2 and on the restart they both got a slow start. Macedo was able to find his way back to the top side and recommenced his charge forward. The crew made all the right adjustments as he could run anywhere on the track and was carry his speed around the half-mile oval. Hafertepe was on the top side of the surface, Gravel was working the bottom, and Macedo was looking for an opening anywhere on the race track. The top three were now running nose to tail with all of them wheeling and dealing for the top spot. Macedo would slip past Gravel into the runner-up position and was now closing in on the race leader. On lap 26 he made the pass for the lead and never looked back as he took the victory by 2.167 seconds over Hafertepe and show position finisher Gio Scelzi who made a last lap pass for third spot. It was Macedo’s seventh career World of Outlaws (WoO) win and his first of hopefully many WoO wins with the JJR #41 team. Earlier this season he won an All Star Circuit of Champions (ASCoC) win in the #41 at Volusia Speedway Park. It was also a special night as Philip Dietz collect a win with his fifth different driver that he has wrenched into victory lane over the past five seasons (Jason Johnson, David Gravel, Parker Price-Miller, Shane Stewart, and now Carson Macedo). With his smile gleaming the always humble winner and KSE Hard Charger of the night explained, “That was one of the best cars I’ve ever driven in my life.” He continued, “It’s not every night that your car is that dominant. I mean that thing was just perfect to drive. Phil, Clyde, and Nate were incredible tonight.” The grateful winner acknowledged that earlier in the night the car did not feel good, but ended by stating, “Phil and the guys made a lot of changes for the feature and nailed it. I could go anywhere I wanted. I’m so happy to get a win for this team, these sponsors, a lot of really great people involved.” A great night for the forty-one!
