ANOTHER TOP TEN FINISH FOR THE WACO METALS FORTY ONE AGAINST THE WORLD OF OUTLAWS IN THE TED JOHNSON MEMORIAL AT DEVIL’S BOWL SPEEDWAY
MESQUITE, TEXAS (April 19, 2014) – In 1978, Ted Johnson had a vision to bring the best sprint car drivers from around the country together as a touring series so he could take his traveling show, which he called the World of Outlaws, on the road. It all started at the historic Devil’s Bowl Speedway and 36 years later the traveling show of sprint car racing was back at the unique half mile, along with Jason Johnson and the Stenhouse Jr. Racing team, for the Ted Johnson Memorial as part of the Texas Outlaw Nationals. After a seventh place run on Friday night, Jason and the team were looking for another high performance night in the Waco Metals/Jonestown KOA #41 Maxim. Pulling a late pill meant the driver from Eunice, Louisiana would need to run a good lap late as he was going out 29th. He did not disappoint as he turned the historic half-mile in 14.892 seconds, which ended up 11th quick overall and locked him into the heat race inversion. After securing his Crow Enterprizes safety belts and pulling the chin strap tight on his Arai Helmet, he rolled onto the speedway in the second heat race to line up in the pole position. Outside front row starter Cody Darrah jumped into the lead as Jason pursued from the second spot in his American Eagle Harley-Davidson hot rod. He would finish in the runner-up spot and advance to the 30-lap main event where he would line up from the eleventh position. Pacing the field from row six, the Cajun Sensation was ready to roll in front of a packed house at Devil’s Bowl. When the green flag waved, front row starter Joey Saldana jumped into the early lead and set the race pace in the Motter #71M. Meanwhile, Jason was hard at work inside the cockpit of his Maxim Chassis making his way forward one-by-one as opportunities opened up on the racing surface. The racing throughout the field was fierce as Jason was racing for position with Brad Sweet and Cody Darrah. Saldana would lose the lead to eventual race winner Daryn Pittman, who led the last 20 laps, while the Cajun brought The Shop Diesel Service/Gleco Plating Inc. entry across the finish line in the eighth position to record his second top ten finish in as many nights of racing with the World of Outlaws. Jason commented, “I am proud of the Stenhouse Jr. Racing guys. They provided me with a great American Eagle Harley-Davidson Maxim to competitively race with all weekend against the Outlaws.”
