WORLD OF OUTLAWS OUTLAST A RAIN STORM IN KENOSHA COUNTY: JASON DRIVE FORWARD THROUGH THE MUD AT WILMOT RACEWAY NETS A TOP 10 FINISH IN THE BADGER 40 TO COMPLETE THE GREAT LAKES CHALLENGE
WILMOT, WISCONSIN (June 2, 2018) – After the races at I-96 Speedway, Jason and the JJR#41 trucked around the Lake Michigan to Wilmot Raceway in the second leg of the Great Lakes Challenge presented by SLS Promotions. There were 28 teams nestled in the pit area ready to roll. Officials made an early decision to keep the program moving along as weather was showing on the radar and they wanted to do what they could to get the show in for the drivers and fans. That would prove to be a good decision as the night would unfold.
Jason would be the fourth car out for time trials at the racy and fast 3/8-mile oval that is located on the Kenosha County Fairgrounds. The Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution #41 Maxim entry was ready to go and with a tap of the push truck, his Kistler Engine came to life under the hood of his racecar. He rolled out on to the track’s surface and got up to speed turning his first lap in 13.358 seconds. He stayed on the loud pedal and wheeled around Wilmot, this time improving his time to 13.147 seconds, which ended up being 13th quick overall.
When the heat race lineups were put together based on all of the quickest times, the Rocky Mount, Missouri resident would line the Fischer Body Shop/Schoenfeld Headers #41 on the inside of row three with Logan Schuchart to his outside. The front row of Kraig Kinser and Brent Marks brought the field to the green as row two starters Donny Schatz and Brad Sweet gave chase. Jason ran in the sixth and final transfer spot on the narrow surface as Marks took the win over Kinser, Sweet and Schatz with Schuchart rounding out the top five.
Locked into the 40-lap feature dubbed the Badger 40, Jason and all of the 23 other qualifiers would have to wait patient as a line of storms rolled through drenching the racing surface. During the delay, making the best of the situation, Jason headed to the midway where he met and greeted fans at the merchandise trailer. The fans are a great part of the sport, so spending some time with them was rewarding. When the rain stopped, the track crews went to work to reclaim the racing surface. They did a tremendous job and the horn soon sounded for drivers to make their way onto the speedway. When the green flag dropped, it was Daryn Pittman to the lead as he led the first twelve laps of the event. The race was interrupted early when Kraig Kinser and Joey Saldana flipped in separate incidents on the opening lap. Jason was up on his Max Papis Innovations (MPI) steering wheel as he worked his way forward. By lap 5, he picked up three positions. He got shuffled back a few spots over the next few laps and then charged back to eleventh on lap 6. It was tight racing and there was action everywhere you looked. In a race for the lead, Brent Marks made the pass for the top spot as he made his way by Pittman. He would maneuver through traffic every lap. Just before the halfway point of the race, Jason steered his way into the top ten in his Jonestown KOA/AutoMeter #41 Maxim Racing entry. He would gain another position to move into the ninth position at the midway point of the race. In the waning laps of the race, he and Donny Schatz would be racing for position as Brent Marks closed in and eventually took the checkered flag, his first career World of Outlaws victory. Marks was followed across the line by Pittman, Sweet, Gravel and Giovanni Scelzi as Shane Stewart, Sheldon Haudenschild, Schatz, Johnson and Schuchart completed the top ten. A good run for the forty-one!
