KICKING IT OFF IN CALIFORNIA: OUTLAWS INVADE THE WEST COAST AS THEY KICK OFF TWO NIGHTS OF ACTION AT THUNDERBOWL RACEWAY, OR SIMPLY TULARE, AS JASON DRIVES TO A 17TH PLACE FINISH

TULARE, CALIFORNIA (March 9, 2018) – The JJR #41 team was in California to kick off the West Coast swing at Thunderbowl Raceway, which most in the racing community just simply refer to as Tulare. There were 43 ultra-competitive sprint cars teams and drivers registered to race in the first of two nights of action at the 1/3-mile dirt oval. One thing you know for sure when you arrive in The Golden State to race is that nothing is going to come easy as these local California hot shoes are talented and here to race for the win.

There were two groups for time trial qualifying with JJR’s K&N Filters/P1 Performance Racewear #41 Maxim Racing entry set to go out 16th in Flight B. When Tim Shaffer completed his laps it was finally time for the Eunice, Louisiana native to stand on the loud pedal to see how much speed he could create with his Kistler/All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Engler Machine & Tool, Inc. racing engine. He circled Thunderbowl Raceway the first go round in 13.028 seconds. Staying in the gas he scooted around the second time and this time picked up some time turning in a lap of 12.910 seconds, which ended up 10th quick overall in Flight B.

In the fourth heat race, the Ragin’ Cajun was set to start fifth behind four proven and well known California drivers – Cory Eliason, Brad Sweet, Carson Macedo and Tim Kaeding – with Tim Shaffer starting to his outside in row three as Shane Golobic, Brent Marks, Mitchell Faccinto and Dane Lorenc rounded out the field for the 8-lap qualifying race. When the green flag waved, Jason drove the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/KSE Racing Products #41 into the fifth spot in the running order as Eliason and Sweet were at the head of the pack. Eliason would take the heat race win over Sweet, Macedo and Kaeding with Jason securing the final transfer position coming home fifth.

For the 35-lap feature event, Jason would start from the outside of row ten in the Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/Jonestown KOA #41 with fellow racer Shane Stewart to his inside. Cory Eliason earned the pole and led the first 11 laps as Jason used his MPI steering wheel to maneuver a little further back in the dirty air. He raced hard and was battling anywhere from 20th position to as high as 16th running order throughout the race. Eliason surrender the lead to Sheldon Haudenschild who led through lap 19 when Aaron Reutzel inherited the lead as he maintained that position to the end to take home the victory on night one at Tulare. Jason brought his mount home in one piece with a respectable 17th place finish as the driver and team look to improve Saturday night when they return to Thunderbowl Raceway.
