OVERCOMING OBSTACLES IN SIN CITY: THE JJR #41 TEAM FIGHTS THROUGH A CHALLENGING NIGHT AT THE FVP OUTLAW SHOWDOWN TO GARNER A TOP TWENTY FINISH AT THE DIRT TRACK AT LAS VEGAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (March 1, 2018) – Las Vegas is known as a city of winners, losers and everything in between, which is not very different from the challenges in the competitive world of sprint car racing. There were once again 44 very competitive sprint car drivers and teams lined up in the pit area at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the second and final night of the FVP Outlaw Showdown. Jason and the JJR #41 team were looking to keep their consistency and speed going on this Thursday evening under the desert sky.

The field was once again split into two separate groups for their two individual laps of time trial qualifying. Jason would again be the third car to push off in Flight B for his laps at speed. After Max McGhee and Same Hafertepe, Jr. completed their circuits, the speed chauffeur that is based out of Rocky Mount, Missouri pushed off and got up to speed quickly in the Jonestown KOA/MSD Performance #41 Maxim. When he passed by the flag stand the first time he stopped the clock at 15.798 seconds. He kept his WELD Racing wheels turning the second time around running a consistent, but slightly slower, lap coming in at 15.880 seconds. The quicker of his two laps was good enough for 14th quick in Flight B.

There were four heat races with 11 cars in each set with the Ragin’ Cajun inked in the seventh starting position in the fourth and final heat race. It was a stout field for sure with Jason Meyers and Ian Madsen on the front row with drivers like Tim Shaffer, David Gravel, Shane Stewart, Brent Marks, Dominic Scelzi, Tanner Thorson and Greg Wilson slated to compete too. Meyers would lead every lap to collect the win over Shaffer, Gravel, Madsen and Stewart who all locked into the transfer positions. Jason brought the MVT/Crow Enterprizes #41 entry home in eighth.

Relegated to the Last Chance Showdown (LCS) where they would start from the ninth position, Jason and the JJR team stayed focused but had some work to do. Unfortunately after twelve laps they finished seventh and were forced to use their first provisional of the season to advance onto the A-Main. Sam Hafertepe, Jr. won the LCS and transferred on along with Logan Schuchart, Dominic Scelzi and Kyle Hirst.

Staring from the inside of row 13 for the 30-lap feature, Jason rolled out in the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution #41 Maxim ready for action World of Outlaw style. When the fireworks fell to the ground all eyes were on the tremendous field of competitors on the track. Outside front row starter, Sheldon Haudenschild, jumped into the early lead and led the first twenty five laps. Jason was mired in the dirty air but driving a strategic race picking up a few positions here and there along the way. When Donny Schatz took over the lead with five to go, Jason was running in the top twenty and when he crossed under the checkered flag he was scored with a 20th place finish. Schatz took the win over Haudenschild, David Gravel and Brian Brown with Aaron Reutzel completing the top five. Jason and the team will now head to southern California to Perris Auto Speedway for racing action on Saturday night.
