RAGIN’ CAJUN AND THE #41 TEAM BEAT MOTHER NATURE AT THE TWISTER SHOWDOWN AS JOHNSON SECURES A TOP FIVE FINISH AT SALINA HIGHBANKS TO CAP OFF STRONG WEEKEND OF RACING

SALINA, OKLAHOMA (October 21, 2017) – After the checkered flew at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Jason and the team trucked south in their Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT) hauler to tackle the Twister Showdown at Salina Highbanks Speedway in Oklahoma. There were a total of 23 cars ready to race at the fast and racy 3/8-mile oval. With severe weather all around the area, Mother Nature was looking to play a role in this evening so the officials kept the show moving along.

Jaxx pulled the ‘53’ pill, which sent Jason and the Waco Metal/Weld Racing #41 Maxim out onto the track 19th overall for his two individual laps for time. He was hammer down right out of the gate and turned his first lap in 12.209 seconds. Maintaining his focused he peered through the shield of his Shell Shock custom painted Bell Racing helmet and made a better lap the second time around coming across the line in 11.840 seconds, which was seventh quick overall on the night.

Sitting third to start the first and fastest heat race, Jason and the JJR Marshall Racing team shared row two with Jason Sides as Ian Madsen, Parker Price-Miller, Jacob Allen and Ryan Bickett filled out the remainder of the starting lineup. Front row starters, Shane Stewart and Logan Schuchart, brought the engines to life and the field was at speed as their Hoosier Racing Tires gripped the Salina Highbanks’ surface. Stewart was leading as Jason was sitting in the runner-up position ahead of Schuchart. Schuchart would beat him to the line on lap three as the two talented drivers waged a great battle for position, but Jason drove back into the runner-up position and followed Shane Stewart across the line in second as the top two secured spots in the Craftsman Club Dash with Logan Schuchart, Ian Madsen, Jason Sides and Parker Price-Miller securing the remaining transfer spots directly to the feature event.

Competing again in the Craftsman Club Dash for the second consecutive night, and an impressive 50th time this season, Jason and the team had the Priority Aviation Services, LLC/Schoenfeld Headers #41 ready for six high speed laps around this oval. After and inversion of six, David Gravel and Brad Sweet were in row one with Jason haring row two with Kerry Madsen as Donny Schatz and Shane Stewart made up row three. Gravel would go on to take the Dash win over Sweet and Kerry Madsen as Jason drove home fourth ahead of Stewart and Schatz.

The field was now set for the 30-lap Twister Showdown feature as weather was moving into the area. The cars fired and rolled into their starting position as the Weld Racing wheels glistened under the lights around Salina Highbanks Speedway. The drivers pumped the gas as their engines roared and then idled into their starting spots to take the green. In the early goings, David Gravel and Brad Sweet got together resulting in Gravel tumbling into the wall ending his night. On the restart, Jason started back up from the third position aboard the Fischer Body Shop/CCC Maxim. With Sweet, Kerry Madsen and Shane Stewart in a spirited duel for the top spot, Jason was battling hard inside the top five with the likes of Schatz. The leaders were in traffic and making moves at speed. Madsen would slide under Sweet on lap 24 for the lead as the racing was fast and furious at Salina Highbanks with action happening everywhere on the track. A much needed, but unfortunate, race stoppage on lap 28 for R.J. Johnson’s hard crash on the front stretch allowed the field to reset and the drivers to collect their thoughts. Kerry Madsen would bring them to the green-white-checkered and take the race win over Schatz, Sweet, Stewart and the Ragin’ Cajun. It was Jason and the team’s 31st top five finish, a 34.83% Top 5 success rate for the season, as they turn their focus forward to next weekend’s two day Boot Hill Showdown show at Dodge City Raceway Park.
