A 12TH PLACE FINISH IN THE 64TH ANNUAL GOLD CUP RACE OF CHAMPIONS FOR JASON AND THE JJR MARSHALL RACING TEAM AS THE LEAVE SILVER DOLLAR SPEEDWAY AND HEAD TO THE WINE COUNTRY
CHICO, CALIFORNIA (September 9, 2017) – The JJR Marshall Racing #41 team was back at Silver Dollar Speedway for the finale of the 64th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions with their Fischer Body Shop/Valvoline Maxim Racing entry. They changed engines and had a fresh Kistler Engines/All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads motor under the hood and were ready to go as there were 40 cars registered to race in the $12,000-to-win event.
There were enough cars again to split the field into two group for qualifying, with Jason slated to go out ninth in the second group, Flight B, for his two laps around Silver Dollar Speedway’s quarter mile oval. When Jac Haudenschild completed his laps, it was the Ragin’ Cajun’s turn and he stepped on the accelerator and let loose. He was trucking around the track in the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/MSD Performance #41 and stopped the clock at 11.889 seconds. Looking to pick up a little more speed, he carried his momentum through the turns and was successful at slicing some time off the watch with a lap of 11.816 seconds. The faster of his two laps was seventh quick overall in Flight B.
When time trials were completed, the heat race lineups were set and posted. The horn sounded and it was time for competitive racing at the Gold Cup Race of Champions! Jason would start on the outside of row three in the third heat race behind Jac Haudenschild and Carson Macedo. When the ‘get going’ lights came on the air was filled with the sweet sound of 410 racing engines. Haudenschild would set the pace with Macedo and Johnson in hot pursuit. The laps click down quickly here and before you knew it the checkers were flying over The Wild Child’s #17W as he took the win ahead of Macedo and Johnson with Bud Kaeding and Logan Schuchart locking down the final two transfer spots from this heat.
Locked into his 72nd feature event of the year, a 94.74% success rate, Jason would roll off for the 40-lap event from the tenth starting spot in the Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/Kenny’s Components #41 as he shared row five with another #41, the #41S of Dominic Scelzi. California regular Justin Sanders and Jac Haudenschild would start in row one with Shane Stewart and Friday night’s winner Kyle Hirst in row two. When the racing got up to speed it was Sanders at the front of the pack as he was carry speed and quickly closing on lapped traffic. Jason was working hard inside the cockpit of his Priority Aviation Services, LLC machine around this racy oval. He was maneuvering through traffic as he was racing for position. At the front of the pack, Stewart took advantage of Sander’s bobble in lapped traffic and took the lead on lap twelve and led the remainder of the way to win the coveted 64th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions over Sanders, Hirst and Jamie Veal with Willie Croft rounding out the top five. Jason would come home with the Maxim Racing car in one piece and a 12th place finish.
Jason and the team will now head to the wine country for two nights of racing at Calistoga Speedway in the Wine Country Classic on Friday and Saturday night to wrap up the last West Coast swing of 2017. Come pit and catch up with Jason and the JJR Marshall Racing team at Calistoga next weekend!
