THE JJR MARSHALL RACING #41 CREW KICK OFF THE MONTH OF JULY AT DAKOTA STATE FAIR SPEEDWAY WITH A TEAM EFFORT TO REBOUND FOR A SOLID EIGHTH PLACE FINISH IN HURON

HURON, SOUTH DAKOTA (July 1, 2017) – In a week that saw Jason Johnson and the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series competitors race in three different states – Illinois, Minnesota and South Dakota – the competition for the week concluded at Dakota State Fair Speedway to kick off the month of July. There were 22 cars in the pit area at the 3/8-mile oval and the grandstands were packed with eager fans ready to see the best in the business go at it at their hometown track.

The first formal order of business was time trials where each competitor gets to go out onto the track by themselves for two laps against the clock. Jason would be the eighth car out and when he pushed off in the Priority Aviation Services, LLC/Pro Powder Coating (PPC) #41 he was hammer down. His Kistler Engines powerplant under the hood came to life and he took the green flag. With the clock rolling, so was the Ragin’ Cajun as he made his way around the track. When he stopped the clock in 16.162 seconds he stayed on the loud pedal for his second go ‘round. On his last lap he stopped the clock at 16.480 seconds, but the quicker of his two laps ended up being 10th quick overall on the night.

He would then start from the outside of row two in the first and fastest heat race by time trial results. Before the event could get started, fellow row two starter Sheldon Haudenschild was unable to make the start due to mechanical issues. Polesitter, Kraig Kinser, and outside front row starter, Daryn Pittman, brought the field to the green flag. The field was shuffled with Haudenschild not able to make the start and Jason was running fourth in the Valvoline/Maxim Racing entry. The caution would fly on lap 5 when Kraig Kinser slowed to a stop with Pittman inheriting the lead. After some time in the work area, Kinser rejoined the field and racing resumed as Pittman led the remaining three laps with Logan Schuchart coming home second, Jason Sides third and the Ragin’ Cajun fourth. Kinser fought his way back to a fifth place finish with Thomas Kennedy capturing the sixth and final transfer position.

The 30-lap feature remained to cap off the night at the Dakota Fair Speedway where Johnson and the Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/Winters Performance #41 would get started from the tenth starting position. When the green flag waved, Shane Stewart would take the top spot and run in the clean air until the leaders caught the back of the pack. Jason was wheelin’ his Maxim and on lap 14 hit the outside guardrail sending him to the work area with a flat rear tire. Philip and the JJR Marshall Racing #41 team went to work to put on a new Hoosier Racing Tire before Jason rolled back onto the speedway. Tagging the rear of the field he knew he had his work cut out for him, but he was up to the task. Racing resumed under green flag conditions and the racer in the Louisianan came out as he started to move up the leaderboard. He was relentless as he maneuvered through the field at this point of the race. Stewart still was on the point position but the track was taking on rubber and wearing on all the competitor’s tires. A red flag was displayed when David Gravel flipped late in the race bringing silence to the engines on the track. He was ok but unable to continue. When the flagman dropped the green flag, Donny Schatz stole the lead from Stewart and went on to collect the victory with Tim Kaeding coming home second and Shane Stewart finishing third. Jason clawed his way all the way back into the top ten, his fifth consecutive top ten run, with a solid eighth place finish at the South Dakota host speedway. Another good run for the forty-one!
