THE OUTLAWS RUMBLE OUTSIDE THE WINDY CITY AS JOHNSON ROLLS AROUND THE TOP OF THE TRACK TO A TOP TEN FINISH IN THE FVP OUTLAW CLAY CLASSIC AT THE DIRT OVAL AT ROUTE 66 RACEWAY

JOLIET, ILLINOIS (June 27, 2017) – This is the time of the year when the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series competitors are mired in the middle of a hectic schedule. On a beautiful night in Joliet, located to the southwest of Chicago’s Windy City, there were 31 team registered and sitting in the paved pit area located just off turn four between the dirt oval and the Route 66 drag strip.

Jason rolled on to the Dirt Oval at Route 66 Raceway off the back straightaway aboard the Priority Aviation Services, LLC/MSD Performance #41 Maxim. He pounded the loud pedal and crossed the timing stripe to start the clock on his first lap. With the air flowing over the top of his Vortex Wing to create downforce, he stopped the clock the first time around in 13.974 seconds. He stayed on the gas and ran a similar lap hitting his marks the second time around at speed and coming in with a time of 13.875 seconds. The quicker of his two laps was seventh quick overall on the night.

When the heat race lineups were finalized, it would list the Ragin’ Cajun in the third starting spot with Bill Balog to his outside as Daryn Pittman and Paul McMahan sat on the front row. The top way was the fast way around the Dirt Oval at Route 66 Raceway at this point of the night and when the green flag waved in the air it was McMahan jumping into the lead over Pittman, Balog and Johnson. There was not a lot of passing at this point of the night, but Jason was digging for every inch he could get on the track. When the black and white checkered cloth flew over the event, the Louisiana native drove the Fischer Body Shop/All Pro Heads #41 across the finish line in fourth behind McMahan, Pittman and Balog with Brad Sweet and Terry McCarl coming home fifth and sixth.

It was feature time at the Dirt Oval at Route 66 Raceway! Jason would start from the tenth starting spot with Shane Stewart to his inside. When the engines roared, Jason Sides took command of the lead position for the first four circuits as Jason was working hard from the ninth position. The track was demanding and the setup was crucial as positions four through twelve were racing hard and swapping spots each and every lap. Kraig Kinser roared into the lead on lap 5 from his 11th starting spot, and Jason kept battling in the second five for position aboard the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/Schoenfeld Headers Maxim. Jason rolled into turn three and drifted high through the turns hitting the wall but keeping it straight to continue down the front straightaway. Chaos would soon become a reality as Brian Brown hit one of the tractor tires on the inside and was trying to steer a wounded car down the straightway as the remainder of the field scattered to avoid the Casey General Stores #21. Jason narrowly squeezed the forty-one unscathed between the outside wall and Brown’s #21. When racing resumed the dust was kicking up and the air was once again filled with the sweet sound of 410 engines. With 5 laps to go, Donny Schatz tracked down Kinser and took the lead. He would lead the remaining laps to take the win over Brad Sweet, Daryn Pittman and Daryn Gravel with Jason Sides coming home fifth. Shane Stewart would come home sixth with Greg Wilson, Kraig Kinser, Jason Johnson and Brady Bacon rounding out the top ten. A ninth place run for the forty one in the FVP Outlaw Clay Classic. Another good run for the JJR Marshall Racing team at the Dirt Oval at Route 66 Raceway.
