THE WORLD OF OUTLAWS VISITED NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY FOR THE JERSEY OUTLAW CLASSIC AND WHEN THE DUST SETTLED JOHNSON BROUGHT HOME A 15TH PLACE FINISH

NEW EGYPT, NEW JERSEY (May 24, 2016) – The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series ventured into Mew Jersey’s modified country as they visited Ocean County’s New Egypt Speedway for the Jersey Outlaw Classic. Jason and the JJR team, in the Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/Pro Powder Coating (PPC) #41, were one of the 32 teams lining the pit area off turn four at the D-shaped oval readying to do battle.

When the individual portion of the show kicked off, Greg Hodnett was the first car out for time trials. He turned a quick lap in at 13.926 seconds on the bottom of the speedway and set the bar high for the remainder of the field. Jason pushed off 14th for his set of laps in the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/ISC Racers Tape Maxim entry. He used a slightly higher line the first time around the Jersey oval recording a lap in 14.624 seconds. His next lap was slightly quicker at 14.618 seconds, which was 18th overall.

The #41 was scribed on the whiteboard to start fifth in the second 8-lap heat race. Mark Smith and Ryan Smith were on row one with Davey Sammons and Brad Sweet sitting in row two. Jason Sides sat to the outside of the Priority Aviation Services, LLC/Maxim Racing machine, and when the green flag waved Ryan Smith was a bit off the pace clogging the already narrow passing lanes and bunching up the field. Mark Smith was at the front of the pack and with each passing lap the competitors were kicking the dust up and coating the fans with a base level of coating of the evening. Jason had settled into the fifth and final transfer position behind Smith’s #94. When the checkered flag flew, Mark Smith took the win over Sweet, Sammons and Ryan Smith with Jason locking down the fifth and final transfer position.

Relegated to the outside of row nine, from the 18th starting position, for the 30-lap A-Main, the Ragin’ Cajun and the JJR boys were trying to figure out how best not only to get around the 7/16th mile oval the quickest way, but also allowing to pass some cars along the way. Front row starter Greg Hodnett jumped out into the early lead and led the first 16 laps ahead of Mark Smith and third starting Daryn Pittman before Pittman seized the point position on the field. Around mid-pack, Jason was fighting for position as he had gained 3 spots and was running in the 15th spot in the running order in the Jonestown KOA/Brown & Miller Racing Solutions (BMRS) #41. He was in a rhythm and turning is some consistently good laps as he was tracking down Ryan Smith and Danny Dietrich. Fighting through the dust the competitors continued to turn laps and throw the dust up. The checkered flag flew over Pittman, for those that could see it through the thick dust covering the field, as Hodnett and Mark Smith rounded out the podium spots. Jason brought the forty one home with a respectable 15 place finish in the Jersey Outlaw Classic show. It was his 27th top fifteen finish in 2016, a 75% top fifteen success rate, for Jason and the JJR team!
