SETTING QUICK TIME AND A TOP FIVE FINISH IN THE OCEAN OUTLAW SHOWDOWN AT OCEAN SPEEDWAY MAKES FOR A GOOD NIGHT OF RACING ACTION FOR THE RAGIN’ CAJUN AND THE JJR TEAM

WATSONVILLE, CALIFORNIA (April 1, 2016) – On a beautiful day to start the month of April, the JJR team drove through the Pajaro Valley in Santa Cruz County to Ocean Speedway. The World of Outlaw Craftsman Sprint Car Series was visiting the quarter mile for the first time since 2008, and the pit area was filled with 25 cars and the grandstands were filled as well with eager fans ready to see these stars race.

After hot laps were completed, WoO and track officials deviated from the normal single car time trial qualifying format due to a unique city ordinance related to the decibel level when one car is on the track. So, they put three cars on the track at once to take their time trial laps. Jason was in an early set of qualifiers and when the green flag waved over his group he set a torrid pace around the bullring stopping the clock at 11.482 seconds on lap one. His second lap was a little slower at 11.509 seconds, but when time trials were completed the faster of the Louisiana speedsters two laps stood atop the speed charts as he earned his second quick time of the year aboard the Priority Aviation/RACEDIECAST.COM #41 Maxim.

His quick time put him on the pole of the first and fastest heat race by time trial times. Daryn Pittman shared the front row with the Rocky Mount, Missouri resident as Joey Saldana and Paul McMahan made up a stout row two. When the green flag was unfurled, Jason pounded the loud pedal and got a great start to seize the lead in the Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/FK Rod Ends machine. Pittman kept the pressure on as he chased the #41, but Jason would lead wire-to-wire to take the heat race victory over Pittman, McMahan, Saldana and David Gravel with Dominic Scelzi securing the last transfer position.

The six lap Dash was the next opportunity for Jason to showcase the speed aboard his Maxim Racing/Factory Kahne Shocks entry. When the special guest on the front stretch pulled an inversion pill that read six it meant the quick timer for the night would start from the outside of row three beside Brad Sweet. Logan Schuchart and Jacob Allen made up row one as Pittman and Kerry Madsen followed in row two. There was not a lot of passing during the event as Allen took the win over Schuchart, Pittman, Sweet, and Madsen with the Ragin’ Cajun rounding out the field.

The Dash finish set the first three rows of the starting grid for the 35-lap feature event. The track had taken on moisture and looked to be fast and racy with multiple lanes. Philip, Jeff and Jakob made some adjustments to the Fischer Body Shop/Kenny’s Components sprinter before pushing off to the staging lanes. When the engines came to life, Logan Schuchart moved his #1s into the top spot as Allen and Sweet were continually putting pressure on the leader. Jason was running in the fifth spot and looking for any opportunity to make a pass around the quarter mile oval. A late race caution bunched up the field and on the restart Sweet would claim the top spot and go on to claim the win ahead of Schuchart, Allen and Madsen with the Ragin’ Cajun coming home in the fifth spot. It was Jason’s fifth top five in 2016 WoO competition so far, and his seventh top five overall on the season. Another great run for the forty one team!
