A STRONG RUN AT ARIZONA SPEEDWAY IN THE INAUGURAL NAPA DESERT SHOOTOUT NETS A SEVENTH PLACE FINISH ABOARD THE FISCHER BODY SHOP #41 MAXIM
QUEEN CREEK, ARIZONA (March 6, 2016) – Jason and the World of Outlaw Craftsman Sprint Car Series visited Arizona Speedway on Sunday night for the Inaugural NAPA Desert Shootout. There was a total of 26 cars signed in to the pit area on a great night for racing. The midway was bustling with fans and the grandstands were filled to capacity as it was a Standing Room Only (SRO) type of crowd.
The individual performance part of the show, time trials, was the first order of business. Jason drew a low pill and pushed off fourth for his time trial laps. He circled the well-prepared oval the first time around in 12.761 seconds. He kept the hammer down in the Fischer Body Shop/Crow Enterprizes #41 Maxim the second go round and laid down an even better time of 12.709 seconds, which topped the charts at that point of qualifying. When the final car pulled off the accelerator after crossing under the checkers, Jason’s lap was eighth quick overall.
With only three heat races scheduled they were taking 6 cars from each heat to the feature. Jason rolled out into the third starting position aboard his Priority Aviation Services/KSE Racing Products machine where he would start the race behind Joey Saldana and Shane Stewart. When the green flag waved, Saldana bolted into the lead with Stewart and Johnson giving chase. The track was racy and the competitors were putting on a great, high speed show for them around Arizona Speedway. When the last lap was completed, Saldana took the win ahead of Stewart, Jason, and Logan Schuchart with Jacob Allen rounding out the top five.
For the 30-lap A-Main, Jason would start on the outside of row four beside Donny Schatz. David Gravel and Joey Saldana would bring the field to the flag stand. The track was wide and fast as the racers sped around the clay oval. Jason would run in the eighth position as the laps started to add up. A caution for Daryn Pittman allowed the field to regroup, and when the racing resumed Jason carefully maneuvered his Maxim Racing speedster at speed. Shane Stewart would take the lead from Saldana on lap nine and lead the remaining distance to secure his first WoO win of the year with Gravel, Danny Lasoski, Donny Schatz and Brad Sweet completing the top five. Jason came home in the seventh spot behind Saldana who finished in the sixth spot. Another top ten run for the forty one!
