A LATE RACE CRASH RUINS GREAT RUN FOR THE FORTY ONE, ENDING THE WEST COAST SWING WITH A 20TH PLACE FINISH AT ANTIOCH SPEEDWAY

ANTIOCH, CALIFORNIA (September 13, 2015) – Visiting the West Coast to race in front of their avid sprint car fans is fun for Jason and the entire JJR team. The last race of this year on the Pacific Ocean side of the states with the World of Outlaw was on Sunday night at Antioch Speedway. The tracks and competition throughout California are demanding and always pose a challenge for even the best of the best in the sport, which means you have to be at the top of your game when you arrive.

Jason and the JJR crew were ready to go. They have been fast when racing, but have put themselves behind the eight ball a bit with their individual qualifying. There were 25 cars lined up in the pit area and the Priority Aviation Services, LLC/K&N Filters #41 Maxim pulled the highest pill which meant he was going out dead last. Not deterred, he climbed aboard his Maxim Racing machine and focused on doing what he does best – go fast. He pushed off with the evening light glimmering off his Weld Racing wheels and sped around Antioch in 11.866 seconds in his first attempt. His second lap was consistent, but a little slower at 11.874 seconds, but his first lap was good enough for 14 quick overall.

He was slated to start from the fifth position in heat race number two with Kyle Hirst to his outside, Tyler Walker and Logan Schuchart made up the front row with Joey Saldana and Brad Sweet in the second row. When the green lights illuminated, the drivers pounded their ‘go buttons’ and got their machines moving in fast forward. Hirst slid in front of Jason to take over the fifth spot and the drivers were racing nose-to-tail from first to eighth in the 10 lap event. Six transferred to the A-Main and Jason held that final position when the cars streamed across the start/finish line.

For the 30 lap A-Main, Jason would start from the outside of row seven in the fourteenth starting spot. Kerry Madsen was to his inside and Joey Saldana and Donny Schatz were leading the field to the green. Saldana led early before surrendering the lead to Schatz. Jason was racing hard and making progress early. Schatz relinquished the lead when he got a flat right rear tire and Daryn Pittman took over. But when racing resumed, Jason was also having some success moving his Fischer Body Shop/Wilwood #41 forward as he entered the top ten. He continued moving forward, getting as high as eighth place before bad luck struck with two laps to go when he and Kerry Madsen got together in turn four forcing Jason to the pit area for the night as he almost turned over. Pittman would go on to seal the victory as Jason would be scored in the 20th position on the night.
